Book Budget car hires at Sacramento Intl Airport

• Which car at Budget car rentals at Sacramento Intl Airport (SMF) is best for a Northern California road trip?

If you’re planning on heading to the coast to visit Muir Woods, Big Sur, and the Golden Gate Bridge, we recommend choosing a hybrid sedan or a compact SUV. California, especially the areas near San Jose and San Francisco, have more EV charging stations than most places so you’ll be able to charge the vehicle during your road trip. A sedan will give you enough room to fit your bags if you’re planning to stay at hotels during your road trip. However, if you’re traveling with up to 5 people or plan to camp in Big Sur, we recommend choosing a compact SUV. This vehicle type offers enough room for camping gear, but won’t be difficult to park in the small coastal towns.

Pickup at Sacramento airport took a bit longer than expected. The representative was great. The Jeep Compass was a bit small to be considered a mid size SUV. My husband was barely able to see under the top edge of the windshield because it was so small and there was mo way to lower the seat. The trunk space was small as well. Drop off at Reno was extremely easy and the attendant was very friendly and efficient.Reviewed 1 Aug 2026

I’ve rented hundreds of vehicles working in transportation over the last 20 years. This is the only terrible experience I’ve ever had. And after all the problems I was charged double. And told I would get 10% off my next rental. Zero starsReviewed 13 Jun 2026

Didn't have my reservation when arrived. Tried to give me an electric car Chevy bolt even though I reserved an SUV. When I asked why they were very rude and combative. Asked to speak with manager and eventually he said he would provide an SUV but then waited an hour and had to go back up to the counter and finally just settled on a sedan that was available since there was still no SUV. Even though I heard them "upgrade" another customer for free to a rav 4 suv who came in after us.Reviewed 27 Oct 2025

Pick up line was unreasonably long and you had too few workers. And serval customers in line before me had to come back to the counter after finishing up because of problems when they went to find their cars. So it took forever.Reviewed 14 Jul 2025
