Choosing a larger vehicle will also give you plenty of space for hiking and camping equipment. Being high up in a larger car will also give you great views of the area’s stunning coastline. However, if you plan to spend a lot of time in nearby cities, like Faro or Lagos, you may find a smaller vehicle easier to manoeuvre in the old town areas, where the streets are narrower and turns and junctions are tighter.

In general, speed limits in Portugal sit at 50 km/h (30 mph) in urban areas, 90-100 km/h (55-65 mph) on rural roads, and 120 km/h (75 mph) on motorways.
