Pros: Location was lovely - river bubbling away all night lulled us to sleep. Breakfasts great - lots to choose from and brought to the kitchenette for us to have in private. Quiet and peaceful stay.
Cons: Bathroom a bit dated with a smallish shower head. The towels were a bit scratchy and would have been good to have big fluffy bath towels for after we had showered.

6.3 Good
Pros: Staff were all very friendly and helpful, breakfast was lovely. The location is excellent for exploring the local area. With the exception of the points below, we had a really nice stay.
Cons: Room was too hot and the radiator was broke so we couldn’t turn it off. Blind was broken, shelf in the bathroom was broken. The rooms could do with a bit of TLC, very dated and old and in desperate need of repair.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great welcome, very comfortable, super food, sympathy for sore feet! Room was super, character and comfort, good big bath lots of hot water and views into the town. Great location right at the centre of town.
Cons: Dining room is slightly short on character, when there are few people about, but I am being picky.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: the location was in the centre of the town.
Cons: Breakfast was from 7-30 t0 9 we were told. We went down to breakfast at8-40. Almost nothing was ready. One nice young man was trying to produce coffee , tea, toast and all the breakfasts at the same time as putting out plates etc. He was completely overwhelmed. There was no parking and on street parking was difficult.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a top quality hotel for which I was lucky to get a good value midweek winter price on booking.com . If you get the chance you should try it but it is in the middle of nowhere.
Cons: If I had to fault anything it’s the lighting and location of the car park, but that’s being a bit pedantic.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was exellent The location was beautiful the room was as you would expect . unfortuneately the weather was windy and wet which meant we could not get as good a look around as would have liked
Cons: The car park was a long way from the reception area especealy for older people. There was a black mark on a pillowcase which was not not changed on the Saturday
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The overall experience was great, bed was very comfy, lounge areas very relaxing.
Cons: A bit disapointed that there was only 1 changing room within the spa area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The premises is beautiful and beds were extremely comfortable. The restaurant was not fantastic. The staff were assistive in the room when we upgraded our room to the minibar and made sure it was cost effective. Also the remote wasn’t working for the television but they ensured the matters were resolved.
Cons: The hotel was lovely. I will stay again and bring my little boy as he would love the pool. The downside was when we ate in the restaurant, the meal came out and it was cold, too cold to actually eat which was a shame. We didn’t complain as we already had to mention that the minibar had next to nothing in and that the television remote would not work so we couldn’t really mention that the food was good. Breakfast however was beautiful and enjoyable!
7.0 Good
Pros: good staff Zoe and Dawn
Cons: they mixed up my booking

Cons: Cold in the castle
4.0 Okay
Pros: Location, turret tour
Cons: Dinner - food and service poor
7.0 Good
Pros: Beautiful hotel & castle view room was bigger than expected which was nice. Great service & attentiveness from the staff in the drawing room where we relaxed in the evening. Great breakfast & service in the morning.
Cons: Only stayed one night & there was a holding deposit of £150 which although doesn’t come off my account it affects my available balance with my bank and 4 days later after leaving still hasn’t come off my account. I’m well travelled & used to this to some extent but this feels rather steep for one nights stay, just something to consider. The mattress was quite hard so wasn’t the best sleep but this is always down to individual preference.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere, the feeling that you are the most important people in the world, the quality of food, and than fact this is a real castle. The staff themselves who go the extra mile.
Cons: Nothing not to like. Yes it costs more to stay in the main castle but that in itself is good value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the authenticity of the interior decorations! So many old castles have “remuddled” with contemporary furnishings! Those that love to stay in castles usually expect antique furnishings! I highly recommend The Langley Castle for a future stay! I’ll go back!
Cons: Everything was perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a fantastic place, full of character and history. We loved the Josephine room and the drawing room was lovely to relax with a drink. Ideally placed for exploring Hadrians Wall and all the Roman sites. Loved it !

Cons: The shower was a bit underpowered and not very hot
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel and staff.
Cons: The weather the next day, but that is nothing to do with the hotel. It was like an adventure getting home.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about Battlesteads. The room was lovely - it was described as a “small double” but it had everything we needed and didn’t feel at all cramped, including free fruit, water and cookies. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are walk leaflets at reception with routes from the door. The food is exquisite, no pub grub here.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous food. Friendly staff. Local produce. Solar power. Observatory in grounds. Lovely garden. Small but cozy room. Fruit in room was a nice touch.

Pros: The rooms
Cons: Very nice place
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here twice now and we love it. The rooms are lovely and comfortable and we love the little treats such as homemade biscuits and Ringtons Coffee and Hot Chocolate! The restaurant and bar are wonderful and the food is excellent. We think that the breakfast offering is superb and the staff really can't do enough for you. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Cons: It is incredible value but some of the bathrooms are outdated- we stayed in room 1.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was amazing and service was outstanding! A real hidden gem!
Cons: Nothing at all.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Room was a decent size.. lovely location
Cons: Not very warm friendly welcome Could not step anywhere in the room without a loud creaking floorboard even turning over in bed was so loud Very cold and considering how much the room cost for it to not have a fridge was disgusting Felt made to feel like dining In the hotel wasn't acceptable considering they had a formal attire only rule. Food disgusting pizza wasn't even cooked properly. Over priced by a long shot!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Leisure facilities and breakfast was amazing
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is now looking dated and jaded . It needs a refurbishment soon
6.0 Good
Pros: The area is lovely and quiet, the scenery is amazing, it's set in a lovely place. The staff were nice and accommodating. Room was as expected however could do with a lick of paint.
Cons: Food: We ate in the restaurant for our evening meal, ordered from the A La Carte menu. Steak was ordered as rare, sent back as was massively overcooked. It came back practically raw all over and was inedible. Beef burger was slightly better however was not as advertised (bacon instead of pancetta and oven chips instead of fries). Waiting staff were apologetic and offered us free drinks and money off the bill. Staff: Staff were friendly however it was clear that there was no organisation in the restaurant. We were asked multiple times by 3 different people what our room number was, and they came to take our order twice even though this had already been done. Facilities: Spa was nice and relaxing however could do with updating/refurb. The weather was awful and the roof was leaking in the gym, changing rooms, corridor and in the pool area. Toiletries in room were not replaced when cleaned (empty bottle of shower gel)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Allowed dogs to stay. Very friendly staff.
Cons: A little run down. Understaffed (though exceptionally nice when around). Not much choice of pastry at breakfast
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting for the hotel was brilliant for a quiet night away. The room I had was very comfortable and modern. The bar was small but very nice and priced well. All in all a very pleasant stay. The employees were especially friendly and always willing to help and advise where needed.
Cons: The dining area was a little aged and could do with modernising but still pleasant.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location room size
Cons: Room was very cold and kept tripping over step into room. Very low ceiling in bathroom.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great Hotel on the Pennine way. Room was spacious and clean. Sunday lunch was very good also. Very good value in January.
7.9 Good
Pros: Stayed at the hotel on a very wet Thursday in January. The food at the hotel was recommended by people in the village and through reviews on line, it lived up to the good reviews, plus quick and friendly service also. Room 2 was in the original part of the Hall with views over the lawn to the river, it was large and really comfortable, thermostat on the radiator worked well & the windows opened easily for a little fresh air. The super king bed was large and extremely comfortable (best I’ve slept at a hotel), the pillows were soft but firm (if that makes sense). Ensuite was clean and the shower had plenty of hot water. We did use the pool and sauna, pool a bit on the cool side but okay once acclimatised to the temperature. Basic pool changing facilities but it was nice to have a pool to use. All in all, the combination of a really comfortable room and lovely food made the hotel feel really homely, I would stay again.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are very friendly and helpful, very comfortable beds. Lovely breakfast.
Cons: Pool area needs a little TLC.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The very friendly welcoming desk staff. The overall look and feel of the whole place. The room was way big enough for just me. And well set out with tea and coffee makeing facilities. Nice bathroom with shower and lots of towels. The pool although not very big was ok to get you working. And the sauna was small but nice and hot. The breakfast was more than enough to start your day with ample coffee.and toast. Parking is wright outside the door so no long trek dragging your cases. The wifi in the room was very quick and free. All in all a very nice hotel would recommend .
Cons: Being a bit of a gym user I would have liked a small gym to work out in before haveing a nice dip in the very good pool. Apart from that nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly atmosphere, great for dog owners and lovely food.
Cons: Pool could do with some loungers. My husband didnt want to swim but came with me to chill and read a book. There were only 2 uncomfortable metal chairs .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Bit dated, but not bad at all
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredible, especially a young women called Emily who was extremely helpful and attentive to every request we threw at her. The food was great both across breakfast and dinner! The rooms are great and spacious and never once struggled with the WiFi (which was refreshing for being in such a rural area). Although breakfast started at 8am the staff arranged for us to have our breakfast earlier which was very kind!
Cons: The rooms although large were lacking in some departments, two single beds were pushed together in some of the rooms to form a double which wasn't ideal as you could feel the space between when sleeping. The showers in some of the rooms were also lacking in water pressure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Greta location, food was excellent, staff were helpful throughout, and accommodating of me being with a cycle
Cons: Sauna wasn't actually warm when I went to use it at 6 so had to wait for it to be turned on which was unfortunate. Room was also advertised with h a bath, but only had a shower
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and warm in the bedroom.
Cons: Bathroom was cold and the water flow in the shower was poor.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: the hotel was central for our visit. staff were very friendly and helpful even asked if they could carry our bags. breakfast was included, Northumbrian Full Breakfast was beautiful. we had a couple of meals in the Pub, again outstanding.
Cons: New Flooring was being laid, It would have been appreciated if we were informed before we got there. Had to take cases around the hotel to a different door. Because of the refurbishment there limited meals available. There could be more space for hanging clothes and some sort of shelf or unit in bathroom.
