It's a very old property with a dated revamp that doesn't hide the heavy wear and tear, age and intense mold smell. We had to change rooms because the mold odor was unbearable. On a positive note, the staff was very accommodating and the distance to the airport is very convenient. Overall, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

Great hotel to stay at if you need easy access to Taoyuan airport. Equivalent to a 4 star hotel in the US. Well worth upgrading to the remodeled rooms. Rooms are small, clean, quiet. Have a mini fridge, kettle ,coffee and tea. Breakfast was varied, quite good and fully ready to go at 6:30 am . The windows do open however they are normally locked. Pros (+) I stayed here after 3 flights starting in Utah. It was my first time in Taipei. I was so exhausted I could barely think straight. The cab from the airport to the hotel was very fast and cheap. I got in very late and the staff checked me in quickly (I had booked my room online). The room was massive. Pros (+) The room was clean and the staff was very helpful.
Cons (-) The continental breakfast tasted like leftovers. Many of the dishes were cold. The fries and chicken nuggets were rock hard. The AC wasn’t very powerful.

Pros (+) Close proximity to the airport and the staff were used to people staying there for layovers so they were very helpful.
Cons (-) There was no restaurant. They had only a buffet with probably some of the worst food I've eaten in a while and Taiwanese food is usually pretty good. The entire place was run down and had a faint odor of cigarettes. There was no bar in the hotel or hotel store to purchase amenities. Wifi was exceedingly slow even for a hotel.

Pros (+) City Suites Gateway is very close to the international airport (TPE), less than 10 minutes for a taxi ride to the entrance of the hotel.
