Driving in Greenland is not that challenging. You should drive on the right-hand side of the road. However, the road conditions, especially on unpaved roads, can present hazards. Always be aware of any bumps or holes. As Greenland is basically an ice sheet, it also sometimes experiences winter weather, so try to avoid driving especially on unpaved roads during heavy snow.
In Greenland, you have to be at least 18 years old in order to rent a car. However, some agencies may have their minimum age requirement set at 20 years old. If you are under 25, you may still be subject to a young driver’s fee depending on the rental company you choose. You must have a valid driver’s license from your home country, and International Driver’s Permit (IDP) if your license is not written in the Roman alphabet, and your valid passport. You will also need to have a major debit or credit card in your name for the payment and security deposit.
Gas in Greenland is sold by the liter, and gas prices tend to fluctuate like many other places in the world. Currently, the price of a liter of gas here hovers around kr4.71 ($0.69). Per gallon, this translates to about kr19.43 ($2.86).
Greenland only really has two speed limits since there are no highways or main roads connecting cities and towns. If you are in an urban area, the speed limit is typically 50 km/h (31 mph), and if you are on a main road outside the city center the maximum speed is usually set at 80 km/h (49 mph). However, you should always keep your eye out for signs indicating any changes to the speed limit.
