Hotel Appi Grand - Hachimantai - Outdoor view
1
8.1 Excellent (1,665 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel APPI Grand in Hachimantai, you'll be next to a golf course and 6 minutes by foot from Appi Kogen Ski Resort. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available on request).
7.1 Good
Pros: One-stop shop service was great. Most daily conveniences could be easily settled within the property. There were a lot of F&B options and while consumption was understandably at a premium but we cannot fault anything on quality and variety. Good convenient stores available as well so we were very well-supplied with drinks, snacks and desserts. All making for a good holiday.
Cons: I think the service staff needs to be more attentive to their body language. I noticed a stark difference of treatment during breakfast. I was waiting in line for breakfast and a Caucasian couple was in front of me. Breakfast closed at 9am, the Caucasian couple and ourselves (a couple as well) were there at 9.05am. When the Caucasian couple sought to enter for breakfast, they were greeted with smiles and apologies that the breakfast had ended but would be granted an additional 25 minutes to finish their breakfast by 9.30am. We (Chinese Singaporeans) were instead greeted with frowns and strong hand gestures that breakfast was finished. When we said we just wanted coffee, she said “I give you to 9.30 only, only 9.30.” I think the hotel management needs to relook at the attitude of the staff towards their hotel guests to ensure that the quality of service delivered is blind towards ethnicity. Granted there may be difficult Chinese guests that are not yet used to certain norms of international travel and etiquette but didn’t all developing countries take time to get up to speed? This was a very unpleasant experience but having said that, majority of my time in Appi was great. Thanks to the team there!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location ski in and out with convenient rental shop and locker. Restaurants were good and service was very good.
Cons: We asked cleaning to be done every 3 days to be environmental friendly. But the cleaning was barely through rubbish and mop floor, left the room with a strange cleanser smell. Shops did not have much ski stuff on sales so get all your ski gear ready before coming to appi
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Location-Ski on ski off.
Cons: It’s my second time stay here. Hotel is so poorly run that you would be shock that you are in Japan. The staff does not know what the hotel rule is. In any giving day, they answer the question greatly different. Restaurants are equally bad. Since there are no other options, you stuck here.
6.0 Good
Cons: too old hotel and not very clean. Service is not as good as in japan
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are helpful and nice. Location is great and ski in ski out, very convenient.
Cons: Need to book restaurants earlier otherwise it is always full booking
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Facilities and location are great
Cons: Could be a bit cleaner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We love the private onsen, it was really great after skiing. The ski slopes were great, not crowded especially at the top, the trails were absolutely wonderful. Big room with lots of space, a large variety of restaurants and they serve good food, the price in the food court is very reasonable. very good quality of the ski equipment for rental.
Cons: It could be improved with more staff in lobby reception and reduce the waiting time.

Pros: Very kind and generous staff. Enjoyable breakfast. Warm and comfortable. The proprietor was very helpful. The dinner we ate there was very nice. Very easy to store ski gear. reduction on the ski passes when paid at the hotel.
Cons: the coffee.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the food is delicious but the portion is a bit too small for me the owner gave rides to/from train station / ski area but he might be a bit forgetful and that's ok for me.....no need to be in a hurried anyway
Cons: expect some backache from the mattress and the bed
10.0 Excellent
Pros: ‘Life is Beautiful’ was clean, the food was outstanding, and the owners were always willing to help in every way. Every day he took us to the ski slopes as soon as we were ready, and would pick us up again in the afternoon - it’s only a few minutes walk but a ride in the car is so much easier with skis and boots! He also picked us up from the plaza when we arrived and took us to the train station when we left, no extra cost. There is also a private onsen/bath which was awesome at the end of each day. The atmosphere was really welcoming and we’d stay again.
Cons: There is nothing to complain about - totally recommend it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Life is beautiful was very nice with good facilities. The rooms were spacious and clean. Tomo and his wife were very kind, picking us up at the train station and driving us to the lifts every day. Overall the area is great for skiing during the winter months.
Cons: A self service kitchen section would have been great, considering we have some special food preferences and diets.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mr Tom Santos. He's the finest gentelman. Great owner!
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: very clean , modern, private onsen , the food was amazing the staff went out of the way to help , they would drop and collect us from appikogen, run you down to the supermarket and dropped us at the train at 6.20 am
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hosts. Dinner was an extra cost but they went the extra mile for making vegetarian meals which we asked for on arrival. Breakfast was good and got a lift everyday to the slopes.
Cons: Beds are a bit worn out.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff were lovely! They went out of their way to make us as comfortable and happy as possible. Beautiful Japanese style buffet breakfast. For dinner, you can eat there or ask for a shuttle ride to Lawson. (Curry restaurant across the street, and pizza place up the road). They even drove my daughter to the hospital after a minor ski incident! Shuttle van to and from Appi Kogen ski field in the morning and afternoon made our whole skiing experience so easy. Would highly recommend staying here for a more personal, cozy, homely and welcoming holiday. The wonderful indoor and outdoor Onsen was such a treat at the end of a ski day. Arigatou gozaimasu!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Bed very comfortable
Cons: No Wifi in our room
7.9 Good
Pros: Convenient location, good meals, good public bath facilities. Front Staff is helpful. We had a quality family time over dinner tables there.
Cons: but English is a challenge for front staff.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very Helpful with last minute booking and picking up at train station. Staff helped with figuring out ski times and transportation. Breakfast was good with very large variety. Small Onsen was awesome and it was outdoors and snow covered all around like pictures. There was even a storage locker for snow gear. Great stay!
Cons: Was unable to connect to wifi in room but could in lobby. Rooms not as luxurious as one would expect from pictures. Had to specify time to be picked up fro ski resort.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was like a modernised ryokan, with friendly staff(s). The room was extremely cosy. It was close to both the mountains and lawsons. Had a dryer room for our ski equipments and clothes. Really really loved our stay, it topped our hotel list. Definitely going to come back appi for this!

8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a traditional Hot Spring Ryokan with an awesome onsen and awesome restaurants. The breakfast restaurant was superb. There was adequate car parking and friendly staff. The location puts you about 25 minutes from 3 awesome ski fields with a small city style slope just around the corner.
Cons: The ryokan seemed to cater more for men than women, so as a result there was a que each morning for the toilet. The room was traditional in size, so some westerners would say that it is small. I say people like that should get over themselves and embrace the local culture.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was great!! I love that you can go late at night as well since they clean it in the early morning
Cons: Although it can’t be helped since there might not be a lot of customers the lobby didn’t always have the fireplace lit and the bar wasn’t open for regular customers.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great experience overall. Food was great. Room was large, clean, and warm. Onsen was fantastic. The service was on point. They also ran a shuttle once a day to Appi Kogen which is where we were snowboarding. Overall great stay.
Cons: Location is pretty far from everything and there aren't any good transportation options in the area.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location. Beautiful surroundings. It's the closest hotel to the start of the Mt. Iwate trail.
Cons: Very limited public transportation options to Morioka. Very expensive buffet dinner/breakfast.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, lots of amenities, nice onsen. Liked the game room and music area.
Cons: Other restaurant was not open during our stay. Only had buffet option. It was good just pricey for 2 nights. Rooms were bit dated with decor, but had everything we needed.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice location
Cons: Staffs did not service anything—camping style
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location is next to mountains, but far from city
Cons: The room is outdated, running down. Bugs were flying everywhere even windows were closed
4.2 Okay
Pros: Location is beautiful. Check in and check out were fast and easy.
Cons: The 'non-smoking' room smelled strongly of tobacco. It was clear that the previous guest had smoked in the room. Walls were stained with tobacco smoke and this could be seen where furniture had been moved. When I called reception they senr someone to spray the room. Room carpet and furniture was stained and dirty. Public bath was adequate, but toiletries were of lowest possible standard. Restaurant wait staff did just that 'wait'. Not sure what they were waiting for... but there were many standing around at breakfast. Buffet was not replenished and choices were wide but of average to poor quality. I've stayed in many Daiwa branded hotels and this is by far the poorest. Hotel needs serious refurbishment and staff needs to be trained in customer service.
