Pros: After a busy Tokyo and before a busy kyoto, this was the perfect stop. We chilled, bathed, ate, and slept. It was the best. We even enjoyed drinking a beer in our yakatas before dinner and looking out the window at the mountains. Next trip i would stay two nights instead of one. Super easy to talk to staff. We booked a private bath but i also went to the womens bath before breakfast and no one was there the entire hour i soaked. Great hot springs.
Cons: I wish i stayed longer.

Pros: I loved this place, but I also was ready to go after 36 hours. It has charm, it has great service, and it is in a beautiful setting.
Cons: The big building in the back is late 60s hotel, and it does not feel like it's seen many updates. By volume, most people will stay here.
Overall, this seems to be like the place you would go with your grandparents when you want to take them somewhere nice.
