I had an exam in London so I needed a cheap hotel as I wouldn't care much about the luxury of the room. I also tried to choose a hotel that is as close as possible to subways. Hotel Sophia was the perfect match for money and location: Cheap and close to the subway.
The problem with hotel sophia was the stairs and the next train station that was too noisy until late night.
That we only stayed 1 night!
Dirty, untidy, cramped rooms had to ask to move rooms as the light in the shower room of the first room did not work. Also had to ask for piles of painting equipment to be removed from the narrow corridor as could not get our luggage to the room and this would have been dangerous if there was a fire! Second room had a broken window and smelled strongly of paint. Had to ask for curtains! At least the staff were ready to help with all this. We are not snobbish and would not usually leave a poor review but this hotel is very bad! All this for £95 per night!
The location was excellent, 1 min from Paddington Station. The staff were very friendly & the bed was very comfortable. Also, the shower was consistently hot, & breakfast was included which was good.
The room was small, with a window that didn't fully close & was just above Platform 2 of Paddington Station. 3 flights of stairs were a nightmare, & the shower door was off its hinges. There was a dirty teacup in the room when we checked in & the TV had no stations tuned in. The price was €300 for 4 nights which wasn't that cheap considering the basic setup.
Staff helpful; shower was excellent
Whole place needed minor renovation ; lack of cooked breakfast, low quality cereals and no proper coffee. The road outside is very busy and noisy
It is a basic, no frills, budget hotel. Good value for money if you are on a tight budget.
Basic but clean and ideal for short stays in London with easy access to the tubes.
Tea / Coffee facilities might be nice
Dirty, smelly. Mouldy bread and gone off milk. TVs and fans in rooms didn't work. Couldn't turn heating down. Generally dirty and smelly and in disrepair. Would like my money back really.
