Pros: Beautiful lodge right on the river with absolutely beautiful grounds. It was very cool in the evening, so we thoroughly enjoyed the wood burning stoves in the bar and restaurant. Enjoyed playing pool in the bar. Loved the large deck overlooking the river at the bar. Really enjoyed the short hike out to the waterfalls. Breakfast was very good. Lots of birds and gorgeous flowers.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Lovely location, comfortable chalet accommodation. The spa treatments were very good, and Miranda was lovely.
Cons: Check-in was not smooth, and I would have appreciated a hand with my luggage - not an issue for guests who arrive by car. Otherwise the staff were friendly and helpful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant is exceptional. The structure of the hotel is a little bit old but the room are clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A excellent place to stay to enjoy nature. Beautiful hikes from the hotel. Personnel is friendly and always willing to help and advice. This was one of our best stay we had in Costa Rica.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We preferred meals at Alma just up the road, as buffet is too much food for us and the food at Alma was excellent and a quieter, smaller setting. It is also owned by a family member of Savegre so it's still in the family!
Cons: It was all quite excellent. We were a little disappointed that our room had one queen and one twin, so one of our party had to sleep in a twin bed as we were three adults in two rooms of the same style. The marketing says that Junior Suites are two queen beds, so we felt a little misled by the marketing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Superb
Cons: Picked up chiggers in the forest, didn’t take enough care.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds were beautiful, the birding was excellent and the food was outstanding. Our quetzal tour with Daniel was top notched!
Cons: Bed pillows were poor. We’ve expressed this to them.
7.0 Good
Pros: The buffet dinner was very very tasty The trails in the hotel property
Cons: Old fashioned room and mostly bathroom The spa is very expensive, even access to the jacuzzi is 25$/pp, should be included in the room Breakfast wasn’t very good Walks with guide start at 90$ per room: abusive In view of this, the price for money wasn’t good
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful trails and gardens! The staff were very nice and helpful. The birds in the gardens are stunning. I live all of the brugmansia plants and other exotic plantings there.
Cons: The first room was moldy but they moved us to a much nicer smaller room that had no mold.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Dantica is located at the entrance of the beautiful valley of San Gerardo. Lush vegetation and hundreds of birds and other animals will greet you at any time of day including the astonishing quetzal. The hotel has a great view from all rooms and the decorations are beautiful and quaint. The room is comfortable and the service is nice and friendly.
Cons: The only place were I think they really have an related to the restaurant/cafe service hours which are very limited and if you happened to want a cup of coffee in the middle of the morning or afternoon, your only option is a Nestcafé machine which not only uses subpar quality given than Dota is a producer of some of the best variaties of coffee in the world, but the machine also implies hundreds of plastic bubbles being dropped on landfills which is against the sustainability efforts the hotel claims to support.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location is very beautiful in the forest. Lodge number 8 has a lot of privacy and has a relaxing atmosphere in the night. The fireplace is a nice detail. The bed is good and the balcony is nice to watch hummingbird's in the morning having a coffee. The breakfast and dinner are both very good.
Cons: The overall cleanness of the room could be better, there was dust in the ceiling light, the bathtub was wet with soap like it was used before and some stains in the curtains. The lodge is lacking maintenance, it could use a fresh paint in the bathroom and the outside light was broken. When you use the shower or bath the windows get very wet on the inside.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is incredible, the view from our cabin down into the valley was amazing, the staff was helpful and helped make our stay so good.
Cons: there was a screw up with our room initially, they did sort it out. And it took a bit to get the in-room coffee sorted out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our bungalow (no. 8) was the furthest one from the reception/restaurant area, which made it totally private. Floor-to-ceiling windows in living area and bathroom, with our own private balcony and little trail to picnic area, all right in the cloud forest. Staff were extremely cheerful and helpful. Tour guides were very knowledgeable. San Gerardo valley is incredibly beautiful and not (yet) overrun with tourists.
Cons: We loved everything.
7.5 Good
Pros: Lovely accommodations in the cloud forest.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation standard was excellent and the views from the cabin were incredible. It was lovely sitting on the veranda watching the hummingbirds and looking out over the endless forest below. The trails into the forest start right at your door and the kids loved the playground next to the cabin! The food (breakfast and dinner) was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially Ricardo who worked tirelessly to make our stay comfortable, and Geo who was really helpful and informative. We even got a free bottle of prosecco for New Year's Eve which was a nice touch. Overall, an extremely peaceful and very comfortable place to stay.
Cons: Nothing at all.
6.3 Good
Pros: Good location
Hotel de Montaña Suria - San Gerardo de Dota - Building
4
8.4 Excellent (153 reviews)
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. 8.0 Excellent
Pros: 1. Setting and surrounding foliage was gorgeous! 2. The staff was very personable, friendly, helpful, kind, and overall fantastic. Christina and Keisy and Francis and Manuel were all very fun to be with and very responsive to our wishes. 3. The guided tour to the waterfall with Agniel was excellent. He is amazing and so observant. He made it possible for me to get some excellent photos and videos of local birds.
Cons: 1. The lighting in the room was not great. Need some lighting over by the luggage area so we can see when taking items out of our suitcases. Even a floor lamp would work in that corner. Also a lamp next to the chairs would be great. 2. A rug would be nice in the middle of the floor for cold nights
5.0 Okay
Pros: I liked the nature around the resort and the fresh air but the resort's pricing-quality ratio is very much non-existent. Too expensive for what it offers.
Cons: Matreses are fatal and uncomfortable to the point, that it hurts. Dinner is from 6.30 until 7.30 PM. Reception closes at 7.00 PM. No space for socializing or reading, especially when outside temperature drops to 50 (or bellow) degrees Fahrenheit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean collection of modern cabins surrounding an excellent bar and restaurant at the very end of a long and hilly winding road. Rooms were clean and cozy. Very good service. Fantastic humming bird watching from the terrace. No complaints
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the service, loved the facilities and location of the hotel, rustic rooms were pretty good and we had a very nice view.
Cons: You can hear next room people conversation (the rooms are not sound proof), also for some reason one of the days we stayed we didn't have hot water in our shower, it only happened once though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing , the staff and services was astonished... I will back definitely...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an amazing stay. The staff is amazing and very helpful. Beautiful area - would definitely recommend checking this out!
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous hotel in an idyllic valley. I loved that there was no TV. The food and service was absolutely fantastic. There are incredible trails right down the road. San Gerardo de Dota reminds me of the Richard Brautigan novel "In Watermelon Sugar."
Cons: The WIFI signal was not strong enough to receive in the room, but we could use it in the dining room which worked out.
