Breckenridge is in many ways trapped in history, with elaborate 19th-century buildings adorning the sleepy main street giving it an old-time charm. At the same time, however, it is very much embracing the present and future, with thousands of people drawn to Breckenridge holidays by their unique mixture of calm, adventure, sun and snow.
Breckenridge is famous for its world-class ski slopes, and during the winter months the trees glisten with fresh powdery snow and the streets hum with excited holiday-makers. However, Breckenridge holidays are just as spectacular in summer, when temperatures creep up and the trees burst into colour. The easiest way to begin Breckenridge holidays from afar is through Denver International Airport, one of the USA's biggest, that has hundreds of connections from the UK, Europe and elsewhere. From there Breckenridge is only 100 miles and there are regular buses and shuttles straight from the airport. In terms of accommodation Breckenridge punches above its weight for a small town, offering a huge range from budget hostels to elegant and private serviced apartments.
The major attraction on Breckenridge holidays is the area's spectacular mountain scenery, offering brilliant hiking or cycling options in summer and world-class skiing adventures in winter. Ice-fishing on Lake Dillon is lesser-known but equally recommended. However, there is plenty to do in Breckenridge itself.
The historic main street and ruins of old mines offer a glimpse into the town's intriguing history, and an array of bars and cafes let you taste Breckenridge's recent revival of local distilling and brewing methods. Breckenridge also boasts a full cultural and festival calendar, and if Breckenridge holidays happen to fall in January then the International Snow Sculpture Championships are a unique spectacle not to be missed.
