Holidays in Lindos

Situated on the east of Rhodes' Aegean coastline, Lindos has something a little bit special. Indeed, the Greek government deemed this quaint little town, with its Medieval walls, pebbled floors, ancient acropolis and narrow streets (patrolled daily by ambling donkeys) so beautiful that they decided to preserve it as a heritage site. Therefore, Lindos has been spared an increase in traffic (no cars are allowed in the centre) and its coast is not spoilt by modern highrises, as most of the hotels are located in the hills. Put simply, idyllic holidays to Lindos are unique.

As well as benefiting from a typical Mediterranean climate of long, hot summers and short, mild winters, Lindos' hilly location ensures it is the warmest place on the island. As it is on the eastern end of the Mediterranean means that flights to Rhodes take a little longer than flights to most other parts of Greece (the average flight time from the UK is around four hours). Despite this, however, Rhodes is still only two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2). Transfers to Lindos from Rhodes Airport take around 90 minutes.

Lindos holidays: attractions

Along with its traditional charm and historical heritage, Lindos features two beaches: Pallas and St Paul's. Pallas, with its powdery sand, is the ideal place to sunbathe, while St Paul's' sand-and-pebble mix makes it a great spot for snorkelling. Both beaches have a selection of bars and restaurants nearby, most of which serve food and refreshments both day and night. Looking out over the town and beaches is the Acroplis. However, the views from the summit of this citadel is only part of the experience; getting there and back on a donkey is the real fun.
