Perissa is located on the southeast coast of Santorini, an island which is famed for its outstanding natural beauty. With crystal clear waters lapping at its glorious Blue Flag beach and whitewashed villas framed by evocative volcanic scenery, Perissa certainly lives up to Santorini's exceptionally high reputation. But scenery and sights aren't the only winning aspects here. Perissa also manages to get the balance of relaxation and fun just right, so the ambience of the resort is always friendly and welcoming.
Santorini enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate of long, hot summers and short, mild winters. While this ensures holidays to Perissa can be enjoyed all throughout the year, most sunseekers - especially those making the 3½ hour flight from the UK - tend to visit between June and September, as this is when days are longest and when temperatures reach 35°C and higher. Visitors to Perissa should bear in mind that Santorini keeps to Eastern European Time (GMT+3). This means the time in Perissa is three hours ahead of the UK (GMT) in the summer and two hours ahead in the winter.
With such a wonderful expanse of velvety black beach (7km in all) fringing the resort, it is no surprise most holidays in Perissa revolve around the water's edge. Indeed, water sports here are varied and plentiful, as are the opportunities to explore under the waves with a snorkel and mask. Along the beach is a charming promenade populated with a good selection of restaurants, shops and bars. This is an ideal place to come and enjoy a relaxed evening meal or sit back with a few holidaymakers enjoying the sunset and listen to some live music after the sun goes down. Away from the seafront, visitors can explore the delights of Perissa's old village centre, such as the16th-century Agia Irini, and the blue-domed Timios Stavrou churches.
