The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa

The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is the pride of hotels in Bath, with a restaurant that is one of the centrepieces of the local culinary display, so to speak. It’s a truly magnificent and imposing building, built in 1775 and considered to be one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in England. Having become a hotel in the 1970s after a couple of centuries as an exclusive residential apartment address, it now offers you the chance to relax and experience some Georgian splendour for yourself.

Each room at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is unique; however, they all share the traditional character and ambience of this historic building. To best experience this, choose one of the Heritage Bedrooms. They have views over the Royal Crescent Lawn and are furnished with either a queen- or king-size bed. The décor is at once elegant and homely, and if the hotel may sound a bit snooty, there’s no need to worry about that – pets are allowed by arrangement, and you can have a cot and a toy box if you’re staying with a young child.

The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is the home of Dower House Restaurant, which is possibly the finest in Bath. It offers a choice of fine dining or more relaxed al fresco dining, where you can take your meal in one of the hotel’s landscaped gardens, to the sound of birdsong. Indoor dining is a bit more elegant, with a gourmet menu overseen by one of the country’s top executive chefs. You can order from the a la carte menu, or try the tasting menu if your tastebuds feel a bit more adventurous.

The hotel’s Spa & Bath House is a haven in which you’ll doubtless find yourself spending more than a little time. It’s hard to resist the massage jets of the Vitality Pool, the Herbal Steam Inhalation Room or the therapeutic Himalayan salt-infused sauna. There are six treatment rooms, too, as well as plenty of beauty treatments by Elemental Herbology. Afterwards, you can enjoy a glass of bubbly on one of the comfy sofas in the Taittinger Spa Garden.

First off, the hotel offers plenty of rooms custom-designed to cater specifically for families. You can have a choice of interconnecting rooms if your children are older, or book a large family room with extra beds or sofa beds. Cots and high chairs are provided for really little ones at no extra cost, and you can even request a toy box. The restaurant has a kids’ menu, and children from the age of 12 can have their own special spa treatments.

The nearest airport to the hotel is Bristol Airport, about 18 miles away, and the hotel is roughly a 40min drive from there on the A4. The fastest way to get there by public transport is to take one of the regular buses that leave directly from the airport terminal.
