Pros: I was a little leery about staying at this hotel because of a rude interaction I'd had with someone on the phone when I called ahead at the hotel. But when I arrived, I thought this was going to be a decent place to stay. I was given a room in a remodeled portion of the motel. The furniture and decor was a bit odd, though, for a motel room. Very big, heavy wood furniture that seemed oversized and some strange vases and wall art. Also, the lighting was very dark and because I needed to do some work in the room that evening, I asked the evening manager, who seemed nice, for an additional table lamp which he brought over. Despite the decor, it seemed okay until....,I was a little leery about staying at this hotel because of a rude interaction I'd had with someone on the phone when I called ahead at the hotel. Cons: The issue I had with the hotel ended up being with the owner's unnecessary rudeness. The room I had been given had an unusually soft mattress. Had I realized this earlier in the evening I would have asked for another room but because I stayed up late to finish up some work on my computer, I didn't even get into bed until about 1am. The mattress seemed unusually soft, but I tried to make the best of it. I would fall asleep for brief periods but wake up in discomfort (pain in different parts of back or legs depending on how I slept.) By 3:30am I was well-aware that there was no way I would get a good night sleep but there did not seem to be anyone in the office from what I could see ( my room was directly across from the office). On top of a terrible night with little sleep, at 7:30am there was a large construction machine grating the gravel in the parking lot right in front of my room and it was setting off the alarm on my car. I spoke to the owner shortly while this was going on, explaining the terrible night sleep because of the mattress, and asked if he would give me discount on my room. He rudely said, "We never had a complaint" and basically said he wouldn't do anything to reduce my bill. I immediately recognized him (his voice) as the rude person who answered my call the day before. He told me I should have woken up the night manager for a new room and because I didn't he wasn't going to do anything. So I asked him for another room that I could use until the 11am check-out time so that I could get a few hours sleep. He refused flat-out, saying "I can't give you a room for a few hours." I asked "why not?" but refused to give me an answer. At that point I became more than irritated, and insisted. His wife came in the office and they discussed something in another language and he finally put me in another room, insisting that I not let my dog on the bed. Not acceptable, since I'd paid an additional pet fee. However, I agreed as my dog will not go on any furniture unless I allow her. However, when I entered that new room my dog, without getting on the bed, started to intently smell several spots on the bed covering, a sure sign that the cover was not clean. It ended up that I didn't stay anyway because the noise from the construction on the parking lot made it impossible to sleep. Aside from the rudeness of the owner, I seriously question the cleanliness of this hotel because, in addition to my dog's fascination with the smells on the linens, I saw that the housekeeping cart and all the "clean" supplies (i.e. towels, sheets, tp, etc) for cleaning rooms was stored in what appeared to be an unfinished, i.e. shed-like, addition to this motel. What may appear to be a clean room may not actually be clean.
