I booked car way in advance. When I went to pick the car at Budget there was note to go to Avis window, when after waiting in line end up with the front person she told me car in not available at present may take an hour or more. I asked for any alternate car she said does not have any other car. Asked her name she said she is not supposed to give the name. When asked for supervisor she said not available. I than asked if car was not available why did not someone call me or email me. She than called the marshal on me. The car was filthy on the inside! It was truly disgusting and it had been oversaturated with air freshener. I had to roll down the windows in 19 degree weather and drive to Cleveland. I was coughing much of the time. Initially the Avis line was long and when the Budget people realized there was no one at their counter, the baggage claim person told them where to go. It took a long time for one hard working Avis agent to resolve all of the issues and move the line. The return on Sunday was equally as horrible. I waited at the return section of the parking lot as directed by the sign, but no one came to check-in my return. I walked across the parking lot toward the terminal and a large woman said that she “would take my keys”. She had no name tag, no coat with an Avis logo, no hat with a logo,….I had no idea who I was giving the keys to. She could have been there to steal the car for all I knew. She said her name was Brenda and I would get an email confirming my return. I waited 7 minutes inside the terminal for the email. It never arrived, so I went to the counter, stood in line again and finally got a receipt. 25 minutes waisted when I should have been in the TSA line.Reviewed 9 Feb 2026

Upon arriving at the Houston airport, it took over an hour to get the rental car. We had rented the car to drive to the Austin airport due to a long layover and ultimately with how long it took budget to check us in and give us a car. Our original flight beat us back to the Austin airport completely waste of time and money would not recommend.Reviewed 9 Feb 2026

Super slow at pick up counter. Didn't have type of car (small SUV) I reserved. Eventually made compact car available; told me it was "a couple upgrades" over what I paid for. Later said it was all they had. Unable to get car with GPS.Reviewed 9 Feb 2026

Gave me a car that immediately gave a notice of urgent need for an oil change, which is already a big inconvenience. However, when I stopped by the closest Budget location, they said I didn’t need to change vehicles because the oil change wasn’t as urgent as it stated. I was taking a 100+ mile trip and would’ve preferred to not worry about a potential problem on my ride. The car made it fine, but the customer service experience was not idea — especially not after paying a very high rental price of $130 for 24 hours.Reviewed 8 Feb 2026
