Pros: Refund of a day when we brought the car one day earlier.Cons: The site. By ordering you can not find the extra cost. You hear it when you collect the car. Hou reserved a small car and get a bigger one. Instead of 1 : 20 you get a car who drives 1 : 12.

Pros: The car was okCons: They didn’t honor my online reservation and asked for more money and didn’t honor my credit card insurance coverage. They also lied to me about pricing and helping me resolve the problems and ended charging me double what it should have cost!!!

Pros: I will never make a reservation with Sixt again. My reservation was for Friday at 12 noon. I arrived at 12:03 pm and the door was locked, no one inside and the lights off. The hours were written on the door and they close at 12 on fridays but I had a kayak reservation and no way to know that.Cons: On the door there is a phone number to call in case of emergency. I tried three times and there was no answer. I ended up renting through Avis down the street. I paid much more than my initial reservation but at least they were open and had a car available immediately.

Pros: Fairly easy pickup.Cons: They're operating a bait and switch. They lure you in with a low rental cost, then charge you 1.5X more in mandatory insurance than the car costs. I expect they make far more money on the insurance than on the rental fee.

Nick on windshieldCons: An hour after we got the car, I noticed snuck on the glass of the windshield. I didn't want to notify Hertz because surely they would blame us. We hoped they wouldn't notice upon return. Well, they did, and of course didn't believe we didn't do it. We have CDW from our credit card company, but going home, so have to pay up front of new windshield and do time consuming claim with Chase Bank. Big nuisance, and not our fault. Our downfall was not thoroughly inspecting the windshield at time of rental.

Poor Service All AroundPros: NothingCons: Showed up at time listed on reservation. After I signed for car I was directed to sit and wait the car. During the time I was sitting an obvious local Jewish patron showed up and signed for his car. He did not have to wait as his car showed up almost immediately, was clean and brought to the street in front of the office. I was ultimately directed to pick up the car that was ready for me in the garage. Went down to the garage to get the car and it just begun to clean it. Even after cleaning the car was quite dirty. Additionally, there were scratches and dings all over it that were not visible in a dark garage. Not a good experience. Returning the car was a similar experience; rude workers at Ben Gurion airport. Top tips for renting a car in Jerusalem

  • A hire car is the best and most comfortable way to freely explore not only Jerusalem, but also other major destinations in Israel, as tours can get quite pricey. A car is especially useful if you want to drive along the western Mediterranean coast and make scenic stops as you please. Drive to the fortress of Masada, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as to the Dead Sea, which will take you less than two hours to reach from Jerusalem.
  • Most of the major car hire companies, including Avis and Sixt, can be found at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV), which is located about 50 minutes from Jerusalem. All the car hire desks can be found on the first floor of the Arrivals Hall at the airport’s main terminal. It is recommended that you get an International Driver’s Permit alongside your domestic driver’s license. Make sure to request an English-speaking GPS.
  • Driving in downtown Jerusalem can be quite challenging due to the narrow, busy streets, so if you’re not comfortable, just park your car somewhere and explore the center by foot. Only residents can drive in the Old City. Driving on the outskirts of the city is far easier, and most of Israel’s highway signs are expressed in Hebrew, Arabic, and English. If you any need help, remember that most Israelis speak good English.
  • Avoid driving during rush hour, which is 7-10 a.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m. Fridays experience less traffic as most official establishments are closed. Route 1 is the main road heading towards the Mediterranean coast, with Tel Aviv to the west and the Dead Sea to the east, and it tends to be pretty crowded during peak season and on weekends. When heading to east Jerusalem, take Route 443 instead, which is less congested.
  • 25% of our users found a car hire in Jerusalem for £20 or less
  • Book your car hire in Jerusalem at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price
  • Full-size car hires in Jerusalem are around 47% cheaper than other car types, on average

A convertible can be a fun way to cruise the coast when the weather allows it.

  • The speed limit within city limits is usually 60 km/h (31 mph), but it may lower in certain residential areas, so keep an eye out for posted signs. Undivided intercity highways have a speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph), and divided intercity highways observe a limit of 90 km/h (56 mph). Major freeways allow you to drive at speeds of 90-110 km/h (56-68 mph).

If you need to fill up the tank before returning your car to the agency, there is a petrol station on the northwest side of the airport.

  • Street parking is usually limited to two hours and is free on weekends. The system is regulated by colors: red and white-painted curbs indicate that parking is forbidden, grey-marked streets are free, and blue and white curbs require payment. When visiting the Old City, it’s best to leave the car at the Karta garage in Mamilla, close to the Jaffa Gate.
