Limoges car hires from £21/day

If there is a clear choice of car to hire when you’re visiting Limoges, it would be one of the smaller models, like a compact city car or a small sedan. This isn’t due to traffic congestion, but because many of the smaller side streets you’ll want to explore are quite narrow. It will also make it easier for you to deal with pedestrians if you’re in an agile vehicle. However, if you’re planning to base yourself in Limoges in order to explore the surrounding Limousin region, then by all means choose a saloon or a larger MPV.

On the rural roads into and around Limoges the speed limit is in accordance with the French national limit of 80km/h (50mph) . Once you enter the villages, you will see very prominent signs lowering the speed limit to 50km/h (30mph). The town uses an electronic speed indication system to help ensure that drivers adhere to the speed limit. Electronic signs positioned a few hundred feet before the speed limit signs will flash your current speed as you pass as a reminder that you need to slow down soon.

Although breathalysers are no longer required in cars in France, they can be useful. France's blood-alcohol limit is lower than most of the UK's, at 50 mg per 100 ml. Roughly speaking, think of what you could usually drink to stay under the limit and cut it in half. Of course, the safest thing is to avoid drinking at all if you're going to be driving your hire car in Limoges any time soon.
