Pros: Breakfasts were great - plentiful, great variety. No stipulated time eg every 15 minutes! So between 7-8 gave us time to wake up! Pros: Lovely interior Very cosy Close to the beach and town centre Bedroom and breakfast room were both full of light and colours.

7.0 Good
Pros: The room is very nice, clean and comfortable. If you're looking for a quite room, quiet place, a handful of people without any other facilities in the premise then this is a great place to spend a night.
Cons: It's like renting a room in someone's house. If this is your thing then it's great. No staff in the premise after 8pm. No cooked breakfast only choices of bread, cereal, etc. If you want to stay other facilities, e.g. 24hrs front desk, places to eat/drink in the premise, then this is not the place
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable, relaxed, welcoming, reasonable price. Lovely breakfast.
Cons: Sharp edges on the bed (a design fault). We both have shin scrapes as a result. That’s the only issue we had. Lovely well run place. Thank you :)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfasts. Brilliant selection of fresh fruit and niche yoghurts. OJ was decent (usually is very processed) and the tea was a good quality blend. The cooked range was terrific, some variation to the norm, but lots of new and interesting options. The overall food quality was superb for the price. The location overlooking the river was excellent. A great was to start a day.
Cons: The shower/bath was poor, in the sense that the water flow in my room was weak and I had to run around to get wet! Nogt a deal breaker, but a surprise disappointment given the excellence of the rest of the hotel facilities and the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We have visited before and love the location and the rooms are beautiful
Cons: The hotel wouldn’t take a one night stay. Went through booking.com and booked the room but very expensive and I believed I had booked half board. Very disappointed to have had to pay far too much for a one night stay and won’t do it again

Pros: Bedroom was a perfect size for what we needed, Not too big . Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great. Breakfast was lovely. Air conditioning worked perfectly The theme of the hotel was very nice and different.
Cons: Parking was terrible. My car was always blocked in. Hallways was very dusty/cobwebs around the curtains . No reception area. Place looks like it needed a bit of work/modernising, front door paint all flaking off. Walls and ceilings in hallways have large cracks and was just painted over. In the room the wall paper was falling off above the bed.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Bed and pillows were very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and food great.
Cons: Nothing

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quirky Boutique hotel with a selection of chocolate chips at the main entrance. Our room was comfortable and met our needs well for two nights. The staff were very accommodating & friendly. Breakfast was freshly made and the selection varied. Loved my poached eggs on wholemeal with extra mushrooms. Self service for tea, coffee and buffet suited us fine. The truffles left in a little bowl in the room were delicious. All in all a great little find that had the personal touch especially if you are a chocolate lover.
Cons: If you're a light sleeper request on booking a room facing the back of the hotel. You can hear the traffic if in a room facing the main road especially if you have the window open. A minor dislike for a night or two but nonetheless something to be aware of when booking.
5.5 Okay

Pros: Everything, absolutely fantastic all round
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bedroom was a spacious room, beautifully decorated and furnished. All staff friendly and welcoming. Spa facilities exceeded expectations. Great variety on the breakfast menu. Bar and lounge area lovely private seating areas.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Having to leave.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The spa is genuinely fantastic, the hydro pool is so wonderful, you could literally spend hours in there. The spa beds in the back part of the spa are to die for. The rooms are lovely, the newly refurbished ones are the best, try to get placed in one of these, they are far superior to the old style rooms even if they are less well located. The formal restaurant is better than the kitchen, but the cooking classes are brilliant, highly recommended.
Cons: There isn’t much not to like here. I guess it is expensive, but you know, you get what you pay for. It’s worth the money.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A truly beautiful hotel with excellent facilities
Cons: The buffet and service at breakfast was below expectation. Sadly the staff were preoccupied in preparing for a wedding and our requests for more coffee took far too long. The cold buffet was very minimal - I would have expected a better selection of fruits, nuts, seeds and a wider range of cereals, including gluten free options. Also the gluten free bread was a disappointment - it was clearly from a slice loaf.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Big room with good facilities. Tennis courts and 9-hole golf. Beautiful grounds. Excellent dinner in the Dining Room. Nice walk down to the sea.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely great in every respect! I am actually a very critical person in general. At least this is what my family and friends are telling me. But in Chewton Glen House every little detail is just perfect
Cons: Nothing! The best hotel I ever staid in
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The spa was great and the food and service first class
Cons: Room size and cost

Pros: Mike was so friendly and accommodating. Took time to chat to us as well as make sure we had everything we needed. It was a very relaxed homely atmosphere with books and magazine scattered around. Fab breakfast both mornings, fresh and good ingredients. Definitely recommend.
Cons: There really wasnt anything to dislike. One tiny thing to add to make the room a tiny bit better.....towel rail/hook in the bathroom. Just a small thing!
7.5 Good
Pros: Very good breakfast
Cons: Would have been good to be advised that one end of road was closed Wife found bed to be hard
5.5 Okay
Pros: Nice location, good size room, modern and clean shower room. Able to park car for airport a bonus.
Cons: Shower ran cold after 10 minutes, bed base and mattress sagged and we nearly rolled off edge of bed (had to prop up with books from bookshelf). A couple of cobwebs on ceiling, walked to airport by choice, was told we would be collected by owner of hotel but was not there on our arrival, so walked back. Passed him as we arrived at hotel (he was running late). No TV in room (this was not advertised) but really is something you would expect in a B&B these days. We agreed a price via email at the time of booking, once in the room, the owner said he’d check the price and came back and said “oh yes I quoted you £84, I’ve done myself out of £10 but never mind.” This made us feel a bit awkward and guilty. Overall not too bad but probably would not return.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely property with comfortable room and excellent host.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very helpful and friendly. The bed comfortable and facilities good.
Cons: The carpets could be cleaned ; however the owner did say they were getting changed next year.

Pros: Lovely stay, would highly recommend, only thing was our room was super hot, but we were so lucky that it was nice weather, this wouldn’t have been a problem most the time
7.0 Good
Pros: Good veggie breakfast choice, honesty bar, cleanliness, location, tea provision (nice touch leaving cake on the landing). Homely and relaxed. Arrangements for getting in were helpful.
Cons: The twin room we had is a little small for 2 people; one of us is 5'10"! Other rooms looked more spacious Welcome was a little dissapointing as Teresa did not introduce herself when we first saw her, so we weren't sure who she was! A little more interest and help when we arrived would have made things easier as we were only there for a short time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely b&b, very friendly and welcoming staff, sweet decorations! Didnt realise how close to the beach it was, 15min walk down a lovely park road! We really enjoyed the stay, thank you!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, clean, friendly staff.
Cons: Room slightly too small for family.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Overall a pleasant stay for what we needed the hotel for. Wife had previously stayed there and has also booked for some future dates too. (Maybe she has a secret boyfriend!?) Anyway, very helpful staff, great location and easy to find and safe parking off road. Breakfast was fine in morning although limited window of 1 hour I think. Also, make sure you order the previous night if you want a cooked breakfast. I wasn't aware but it didn't matter as what was offered was more than enough and they will do eggs to order anyway. Plus continental is cheaper by a few quid. We did have a fan in the room which helped keep it cool during a few v hot days and nights. I would stay again which I think is the biggest deciding factor in reviews.
Cons: Nothing really. It was as expected, clean, good location with very helpful staff.
7.5 Good
Pros: Really clean and close to the city centre with friendly staff

Pros: The room was very clean and the staff really friendly. On our last day, altough the check out was at 10:30, they were kind enough to let us keep our parking spot until later in the day, when we were ready to leave. Also the hairdryer near the mirror was a nice little detail.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about this place! Our host Rowan was great (and has cool hair), the hotel is very homey and authentic. Lots of personal style without being overbearing. Room was big and clean. We had the shared bathroom which I'm not usually a fan of, but the bathroom was very spacious and clean and the towels were enormous and comfy. Shared spaces (garden, lounge, TV room, breakfast area) were lovely and welcoming. The two cats are the sweetest and breakfast was very nice. Couldn't have been happier, would recommend and come back for sure! It's obviously an old building so if modern and brand new is your thing, this isn't your place, but we really enjoyed the historical features of the place. If you want authentic, welcoming, clean and inviting, you can't go wrong with staying at the strand hotel.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very pleasant and helpful staff and management who were especially eager to ensure my dietary needs were catered for. I booked a Deluxe Single and stayed in room 7 which is a small double, so not sure if I was upgraded, but the room was lovely and quiet on the side of the property. Although compact, it felt more spacious because of the high ceilings. Bed & pillows were very comfy, and I was impressed to see an iron and ironing board in the room. The breakfast was excellent, with gluten-free options. There is a good small supermarket a few minutes walk away, and the hotel is just a 15 min walk into the centre of Bournemouth. It's likely I shall visit the town again and I'd have no hesitation going back to the Balincourt Hotel.
Cons: My only complaint was that the WiFi was hopeless and I couldn't get a signal for more than a few minutes before it dropped out again. Gave up in the end.

Pros: Central location. Polite staff
Cons: I booked a sea view room for a special birthday going on the photos of the website. I didn't get this. Our view was on a service yard, roof tops with a tiny glimpse of the sea
6.8 Good
Pros: The location was perfect, 5 min from the beach! The staff were very helpful and very friendly. The dinner at the restaurant was good! The vue from the room was nice and it’s a quiet hotel.
Cons: Breakfast is very poor for a 4* hotel... a little buffet with warm juices, fruit salad without taste, and you have to choose a hot plate but never change. And if you like a coffee other than just filter coffee they charge for that. Not good value for a 4*, you shouldn’t take the breakfast here. Is like more an hostel breakfast... The room was big but very old, again for a 4* hotel is look very poor. Even the TV have a very little amount of channel... the room is cold ambiance... No facilities at all, no pool, no gym nothing... for a 4* is not good regard of the rest is poor... and I was surprising at the end when I have to pay for my newspaper! When I arrive they didn’t mention it was charged on the room and they offer me...again not good for a 4* hotel. Overall, the staff is very nice but the hotel need a refresh and don’t deserve 4* at all.

Pros: breakfast was delicious . There were good choices and varieties on the breakfast menu. Breakfast venue was a relaxing atmosphere and staff were generous with closing time for breakfast as some people arrived late and yet given sufficient time to have breakfast.
Cons: Tea was at time cold .
7.5 Good
Pros: It was close to the seafront, the staff were really friendly and very attentive. The breakfast was lovely.
Cons: I thought it was a little over priced. Our sea-view room had a very small window, so we couldn’t sit together to look out to sea. We were in the roof and the rafters were very low, my husband hit his head a number of times. The bathroom was tiny... no space in the shower.

Pros: I like the idea of choosing your breakfast the evening before and it then being ready in the morning, very convenient and the food was lovely. Good location, close to Poole Quay and Harbour. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, amazing breakfast.room nice and clean. Cot in the room.
Cons: Everything was great!
6.0 Good
Cons: We found a Mac book Air on the way into the doorway one night and handed it in to Reception as presumably the person who dropped it would have contacted the hotel. I was extremely disappointed from a Customer Service point of view that no one actually contacted us to said that the Mac Book and owner had been reunited or what happened to it! Many people would have just taken it but we were brought up to do the right thing so handed it in and repeatedly asked if the owner had been in contact. A courtesy email of what happened should have been sent from a customer service point of view. Helen

Pros: Great spa facilities. Very friendly staff and great choice of breakfast. Gin and Sherry in the room very nice touch.
Cons: Very expensive.
9.5 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast was a little below your usual standard, possibly because the restaurant was full. My husband's bacon was undercooked, and the cereals in the dispensers seemed to be quite stale. Staff were most polite but too busy.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Not up to the quality of staff as it used to be.
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location, generally high spec interiors and service, good spa and good restaurants. Loved the outside seating area and sofas, nice atmosphere - could be relaxed or formal
Cons: No air-conditioning in room and a window that didn’t open past a few inches - so very stuffy and hot even with fan provided which impacted our sleep A lot of the staff were friendly and good- however some of the waiter service in restaurant and bar wasn’t quite so four star- eg having to ask to have plates and glasses to be cleared away
5.8 Okay
Pros: I enjoyed the swimming pool, very nicely maintained, the sauna and steam room was upto the standard and the jacuzzi bath was good as well. The food was nice and reasonably price for this kind of resturants.
Cons: The room I got was unfortunately noisy, despite telling them at the check in that I was a light sleeper, the room given was right next to the car park and above the delivery enterance; could hear car park activity through the night, didn't get much sleep- I took it to the Manager, he was very nice and understanding but couldn't help me, although I was offer me some complimentary drinks etc.

Pros: Great food value for money Room a little small hard pillows but for us it was ok
Cons: Great location for getting around the south coast.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good friendly welcome. Large comfortable room, with a chair each and plenty of drawer and hanging space. Clean bathroom with lots of hot water and a good shower. Good evening menu sensibly priced. Good selection of beers and wines.
Cons: The insides of the drawers were a bit dusty, yet the rest of the room was spotless. Hadn't realised this was a pub with rooms rather than an hotel and therefore there was no residents' lounge and once time was called guests had to go to their rooms and weren't able to stay up and chat.

Pros: Very clean and comfortable. Relaxed atmosphere. Cooked breakfast was very good and good choice of cereals, fruit etc.
Cons: Special board was the same during our 3 night stay. Breakfast was from 7 - 9 am. On the first morning we arrived at 8.30. Just before 9 o'clock a member of staff started to clear all the food laid out for breakfast while we and other guests were still eating. However, this only happened on the first morning.

Pros: The room was comfortable and clean
Cons: The staff were probably in need of more training or at least the ones I came across during check in dinner and breakfast

7.5 Good
Pros: Bed and pillows
Cons: The lighting in the room was very poor
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were all very friendly
Cons: Breakfast wasn’t very good. We had to wait a quite a long time for our food to arrive, the poached eggs were hard and dry. The omelette was burnt on the outside and very runny inside and not very thick at all. I found the breakfast to be cooked as if it were by an amateur, not a hotel chef’s standard. I much prefer a buffet style cooked breakfast where you can help yourself immediately as our long wait for our food to arrive meant that we were late for our onward journey.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely hotel, beautifully proportioned & maintained in excellent condition.
Cons: Nothing!
7.5 Good
Pros: Comfy bed & good facilities within room
Cons: Bathroom looked tired Staff clearing up round us at dinner & setting for breakfast not doing it quietly! Very noisy non residents at bar when we had coffee after dinner in bar area. Thought breakfast was very expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived very late due to ferry being delayed and the staff were most helpful. Had a great breakfast eating outside in the open dining area.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Lovely place!
Cons: Nothing to mention.
6.8 Good
Pros: good room and breakfast
Cons: very tired and dated decor ; very strange motifs with bottles everywhere; something out of the 1980's
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Huge, comfy bed, great shower, lovely bath in our bedroom. Had a really good meal in the hotel restaurant. Dog friendly. Close to ferry terminal.
Cons: Only downside is very little onsite parking (though there is some about a 5 min walk away)
5.0 Okay
Pros: Not much
Cons: Every thing was wrong, no parking on premises, wake up call wrong time with one room and never in the other room, car park ticket didn't work so had to tailgate another car out of car park so that we didn't miss boat sailing, room up and down lots of stairs, then bathroom down more stairs. meal mediocre for a hotel with this sort of reputation. Will not be going back even though it is handy for ferry port.
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice location. Nice service at breakfast.
Cons: Very expensive. No parking space. Had to walk 10 minutes from the car park. Requested early check in- I asked for 1pm room only just ready at 3! Made us very late for our party! Staff not helpful. Ate in the restaurant- burger tasted funny so left it. Not a bad breakfast but all our eggs were over cooked and hollandaise was scrambled. Cooked breakfast was quite stingy. Wouldn’t stay here again.
