10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel in a lovely location. Can probably get cheaper accommodation, but its definitely worth the money. Booked a room with a sea view and was stunning. Asked for 2 chairs as I don't like sitting on a bed, that was organised. Room spotlessly clean and comfortable. Had dinner there one night, great quality food and beautifully presented. Also had afternoon tea on day of departure and they kindly changed time for us as our train times changed. Lounge is clean and welcoming with log burners etc. Staff were without exception friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect
Cons: Although we had twin beds as we requested they were still pushed together to share one headboard.

Pros: Lynn is wonderful! Extremely helpful and eager to please.
Cons: Nothing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We like the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. The proprietor was very friendly and welcoming. It has free parking on site. Breakfast was sufficient and tasty. The security was also good with easy access to property with our own room and front door keys.
Cons: Room could be a bit bigger. Wifi was not working. Only half an hour time slot for breakfast.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The cleanliness, the friendliness, the food that Lynn cooked because the chef was off sick. And the professional way that her business is run caring about every small detail
4.6 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was lovely
Cons: Would have been better if the restaurant and bar would have been open but I understand the reasons it was shut

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lynne the host very friendly and could not do enough for us. Anything you wanted for breakfast you could have , you only had to ask.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely everything else! The bathroom was Immaculate! ( And I do mean immaculate) with a cute little basket with sample sized conditioners and shampoos. The room was equally spotless and had a great selection of teas, coffees and hot chocolate ( with complimentary cookies!) The bed was comfy as well. Lynn was a most excellent hostess and couldn't do enough for us during our stay there.
Cons: Only real dislike was the curtains allowed a little too much light through ( to be fair we stayed on the longest day of the year and it was glorious weather) we combatted this by hanging up our waterproof jackets ( well we didn't need em)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yes they were and the bed very comfy and the room excellent
Cons: It was all first class

2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The view. The main staircase.
Cons: The fact we paid for a premier double room. It looked like a standard double. *No phone in the room. No way of contacting reception without a mobile phone. *It took 1hr 20mins to check in and no apology from staff. Didnt help that the hotel wasnt ready for the tour group that arrived in front of us and everyone was checked in as individuals instead of as a group. For the first 40mins only 1person was on reception. *Bar closed at 11pm. *Nowhere to get soft drinks. *Vending Machines empty. *Open ceiling vents to a flat roof in the bed room and bathroom. allowing freezing air into the room. *Woodlice party in the bathroom and bodies in the bedroom. *impossibly small bath, I have short legs and couldnt sit flat. *No mattress protector or bed sheet, The sheet and protector was replaced with 2 duvet covers. *Open linen room doors on upper floors.kids in and out of them. *What appeared to be an old toilet room left open full of window/door trim. *Linen trolleys still in corridors at 10pm. *Thin duvet cover, woke up freezing cold as we cant sleep with radiator on. Not helped by the open vents. *No heating/heated towel rail in the bathroom with the open vent it was freezing in there. *The shaver light wouldn't turn off. *old 21inch Samsung flat screen, thought this was a premium room. *The upper balcony of the Caberet room, A combi ladder was left out for anyone to play with. approx 10pm *Eletrician step ladder left on the out door balcony seating area. approx 10pm. * The bar area could be amazing with its gold leaf painted column tops. But who's idea was it to paint the room pastel blue and baby pink. *I know it an old building and some things cant be helped, the smell of damp, most of this list is avoidable. We didnt risk the food.
6.0 Good
Pros: Fantastic building but rather down at heel. Loved the room and the views but needed a bit of tlc!
Cons: It's the only way to keep a building like that paying for itself but it's definitely faded grandure. Love it - it's crazy but in parts a bit itchy!
5.1 Okay
Pros: Did not have breakfast at the hotel so can't comment on that. Would not stay in a room with no windows again, too claustrophobic. Finding your way around the hotel was difficult and the signs were difficult. One of the lifts was out of order when we stayed.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location and history of the building made me want to stay here. You get what you pay for. This room was massive with a huge bathroom and we slept 5 people in it for £59
Cons: It’s dated and in need of a major cash injection to restore the rooms to their former glory
10.0 Excellent
Pros: clean and comfy very central overlooks the beach great history
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and value for money
Cons: Furniture needs updating
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Booked a basic twin room with no window, however on entering the room it was clear the room had not been cleaned from the previous guests, dirty bedding, coffee cups used, overflowing bin, dirty used towels. Complained to reception who upgraded us to a different room free of charge (with a view, on upstairs floor)which was brilliant service.
Cons: Last minute booking the first room we where given wasn't ready. Not the same from the picture advertised.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, good value for money, nice breakfast. Great for a one night stay.
Cons: Hotel is a little tired and dated
7.1 Good
Pros: Good central location
Cons: Needs more staff on at checkin, it took 2 hours to check in, fan in 1st room was very noisy got moved to another room
7.0 Good
Pros: The room was very comfortable and large with tea and coffee making facilities, tv and lots of storage space. The room was clean and the hotel was well located and near to the centre of the town and beach. The hotel also provided a free luggage storage option on check-out which was very useful as our train left a few hours later than the check-out time.
Cons: We found that the reception staff were very slow and at a lot of times, few and far between! Check-In took nearly an hour even though there were 2 or 3 of them working at the same time but averaging 20mins per check-in. This was combined with current staying guests wanting sundry items such as milk and tea bags and in the same queue. There were also people queueing for an external activity but they somehow got mixed into the check-in queue! Chaos! On top of this, general staff were not immediately available. One guest merely required an extra duvet as his wife was ill and very cold. After queueing for reception for 30mins, I suggested he speak to a member of staff near to where the bingo was taking place. It appeared the staff member started to direct him back to reception rather than assist the gentleman directly. He did eventually get an extra duvet but the whole process could have been sorted a lot quicker! The bathroom was clean on first glance but on closer inspection, the overflow in the bath was grimy and under the soap dish attached to the wall by the bath, there was a thick layer of grime. The pool table downstairs also looked like it hadn't been cleaned for some time either as there was a lot of dust around the cushions of the table. We were kept awake on our first night by both the nightly cabaret downstairs and children running up and down the corridor/landing area from 9pm until midnight. This died down on our subsequent nights but the cabaret remained loud until at least 10:30pm so better soundproofing would be a benefit here.
3.1 Mediocre
Pros: The location
Cons: The hotel, the general standard, the extreme shortage of staff leading to unbelievable queues. We were due to stay two nights but left after one preferring to loose our money than stay any longer.
7.3 Good
Pros: Excellent location, decent rooms, vastly improved from ten years previous when I tried it. Reasonable entertainment, great happy hour.
Cons: The fact I was charged twice for my room. Once by the booking agent Kayak/Hotels.com, and then again at the reception even though I said it had already been paid.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location and ambience.Very good restaurant and menu choices.Excellent breakfast! Parking better than expected.
Cons: Could be improvements for disabled, entrance and steps up to breakfast area, but accommodated in main restaurant.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Well equipped gym. Sauna. Spa. Foot spa. Ice cave
Cons: Better information on mislaid items. Left jacket in the bar. When we enquired about this 3 different members of staff told us all items which were found would he handed into lost property and it was not in lost property. We explained we had not left the hotel and knew exactly where we had left it. Was not too bothered about the jacket but needed the car keys that were in the pocket. We were told we had to wait till 2.30pm till change over of staff. We asked could you not ring whoever's was taking over and of, as they had previously told us, all items were handed into lost property at reception then what different answer would the change over of staff given us? The manger went to ring another member of staff. He came back a short time later with my jacket that had been found hanging up in the staff room. Why was it hanging in there I wonder? And not handed into lost property? I was just pleased to have my car and house keys back!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was a good position and the bedroom was well appointed. The breakfast staff were very accommodating and were very attentive
Cons: The awful pink lights in the bathroom, it made it look like a seedy massage parlour. The food in the restaurant in the evening was poor, I don’t think I have ever had a carbonara quite so awful.

Pros: The Location
Cons: the room was tiny we asked for single beds and got a double we the bathroom wasn't clean at all. the drinks the bar were out of date. over all not a good experience.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Room we were given was great! We even had our own lounge with dining table. We were on our own landing with only one other room meaning we didn't have to put up with people going past and doors slamming all night, it was really appreciated. Asked for a second quilt for the bed as I'm fussy and love a soft bed this was brought up within a couple hours. Would happily stay again
Cons: Just a couple picky bits, Bath had couple hairs in it and tea cups supplied were tiny, however a quick rinse and trip to reception for some mugs fixed this.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Beautiful staircase, good views, great location for exploring. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the lady at the swimming pool who was great with the kids.
Cons: The hotel is run down and in desperate need of refurbishment. Our room was dirty with marks on bathroom tiles ( brownish splatter type marks but high up, above towel rail), mould on ceiling in bathroom, dusty TV. Window frames were rotten with folded up cardboard wedged into them to stop them sticking presumably. Overall just really tired and in need of some money spending on it. The use of pool was charged extra, as was parking, so not really the budget break.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Close to the beach with sea views lift to all floors but there old and slow.
Cons: The Hotel has potential to be great but needs money spending on it there is very little staff 2 on the front desk, 1 for the full dining hall she is expected to book you in keep tables clear renew the buffet tea and coffee machine and it doesn't work, the food is over cooked and dripping in grease the bread to be toasted was frozen solid you had to crack the slices apart fresh orange tasted watered down. 1 staff to the bar serving cleaning and re stocking so its one wait after another. Ceaners missed us so no toilet roll and full rubbish bins with side rubbish. It is in great need of STAFF and REPAIRS to gain stars *+
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the spacious rooms, incredible views, comfort, spa facilities and the beautiful historic building.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Sloping floor in the room
6.0 Good
Pros: Hotel was pleasant staff were lovely the problem was I like a window you can open if you want some air but outside our window was a great big fan so noisy think it had to be for the kitchen because it was very smelly always wanted to stay at the royal it was my partners birthday it's just a shame we got that room stayed in lots of hotels in scarborough but never with a massive noisy fan thing outside the window
Cons: The fan outside our window so unable to have a window open for air which was a dissapointment

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was clean , bed was comfortable. Atmosphere was friendly and welcoming . Nice seaside feel to the hotel. Lovely views of the sea.
Cons: Room was a little cold and the heater didn’t really warm it up much but there was a storm and our room was on the corner of the building which probably didn’t help ! But overall the room was cosy and comfortable and I enjoyed listening to the storm with the sea been so close .
6.3 Good
Pros: The staff were very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. The room was comfortable and warm and the bed was excellent to sleep in. It was also clean & tidy.
Cons: We had an evening meal in the restaurant but didn’t go back for another one. The food wasn’t nice everything looked like it was cooked from frozen apart from the salad. Nothing was fresh even the fruit cocktail was tinned. It was salmon on Friday which had a nice flavour but it was very dry as if it had been sat in the warmer for hours. My partner had the chicken which he commented was very dry also and cheap tasting. No selection for a vegan at all which is unacceptable only frozen veg & lettuce, cucumber & over ripe tomatoes. The soup was ok but I don’t feel the meal was value for money. Even the cake selection seemed like it was pre frozen and were very cheap tasting. We had a fire alarm at 1am on Saturday morning which was such a mess. None of the staff new what to do all the guests were left to fend for themselves and just commune in the lobby wondering what to do. I couldn’t see anyone who was a fire martial or knew what they were doing it was very poorly dealt with and even one member of staff went and hid down in the restaurant hallway and he was just looking outside at the guests freezing in the car park. Nobody was stood showing guests where to go or what to do. This was a genuine alarm not a practice so the staff should have been on top of this but I didn’t feel secure or safe due to lack of knowledge from the staff or lack of training from the company. No one even came out to tell us when it was safe to come back in. I also noticed around 3 or 4 guests who were disabled in some way or another, so WHY were they having to walk down stairs when there appeared to be free empty rooms on the ground floor. One guest who was severely disabled seemed to be up on the second floor and couldn’t make it downstairs without being carried. Obviously the lift cuts out when the alarm triggers so they have to then negotiate the stairs.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was great size storage was good ppl where great staff where great food was great
Cons: Bed was small for double mattress was solid need to update the lift times where different online and at the hotel for brekki and we got dirty towels parking should be free when staying at hotel brekki should be on longer better variety with tea time menu aswell

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb location and leisure facilities overall. Reception effortless and cleanliness excellent.
Cons: Have been coming for a few years and standards are slipping. Bar and restaurant staff vary in quality. Lunch prices expensive even for a country noise hotel and whilst dinner was very pleasant (at £30) bar meals aren’t up to this quality. Luke warm water at peak times for the shower. Rooms could also do with a work station, as a dressing table with stool isn’t the easiest to work from.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast had all you could wish for(except has browns). Whilst I stayed with cereals, my husband opted for the full English. The room had a fantastic view. The weather was wild outside, but it was warm and cozy inside.
Cons: I am visually impaired so have to sit very close to the TV. As it was quite high on the wall I had to tip my head right back, or stand up to watch. Not really a criticism more an observation. Also, when I got the e mail from Booklig.com to say my request was at no extra charge, ithpoght it meant all of it. White font on a green background was not good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was in a beautiful location

Pros: Good value for money. Amazing park in front of our hotel to walk the dog and with a play area for children.
Cons: Needs some refurbishing and new carpets
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent facilities all scrupulously clean. Décor quite dated but we rather liked that. Reception staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Pleasant, relaxing bar area. Swimming pool looked lovely though we didn't use it.
Cons: Extra pillows would have been nice.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: If I had problems the owners was quick to my response. Bar, kids game room, adult room, tv room, pool. Very friendly.
Cons: Damp in a room, kitchen window rain water leaking in, my daughter found dust on her pillow, building need more heating, pool needs cleaning more regularly as it's used by public and hotel guest. Got lock out our hotel apartment when we was in our swim clothes, we couldn't get into the pool as there was a baby swing session on so hotel guest was not aloud in so we thought to go back to our room to find we was lock out, we told the owner, he told us to go back to the pool the class should be finishing. When we got to the changing room, there was baby everywhere getting change so me and my four kids couldn't get change so we waited in the hallway. When we did get in lucky I was a clever mum to tell the kids to pack clothes cream ect for after swimming. We went straight out for a walk. When we got back to our hotel apartment. The owner said he fix the door and had to change the locks so you got a new key. When we got to a room front door, we could see our handle was in a down angle. To realise that the outside handle doesn't move only the inside handle that move plus the door was jamming. It was lucky it was our last night. Would I go back yes because they can hold my family size. Internet never reach to the thrid floor so we had to go to the TV room for internet as we burn our data using it on the three floor. The wifi only reach two floors ground and first floor.

Pros: The Hotel was central to the theatre and shopping centres. Secure parking. The food was good and well presented. The room was clean and warm.
Cons: Our room was at the front of the Hotel and looked on to a bar that played loud music until the early hours and did keep us awake. Creaky floor boards that also kept us awake if anyone in the room above came home late.

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: We had a sea-view room. The location was close to the sea but you need a car/taxi to take you into the main seaside resort. The entrance to the hotel was reasonable and the man at the desk on arrival was cheerful and helpful. The television in the bedroom was a good picture. The shopping area in the town was quite good, and had a brilliant fish and chip restaurant.
Cons: I was very disappointed that my pre-booked request wasn't available. An ice bucket was requested but informed that the two ice making machines were out of order. I thought that there was a bar at the hotel as the photos on-line indicate there could be so rather misleading. My companion had grazed a part of there body due to the sharpness of the very large square bath tap which is situated in the wrong place. You could not avoid knocking your body against it and therefore risk of injury. The bath was difficult to get out of as there was no bar to hold on to. The bath water took over 10mins to get hot and even then it was luke warm. The same applied to the wash basin. The bath was slippery and no bath mat available to put inside. The continental breakfast option was very poor and not appetising, the fresh fruit didn't look fresh and there wasn't any cold meats, cheeses etc. that you would normally have for a continental breakfast. The toaster took at least 4 attempts to brown the bread, and the bacon, and sausages were undercooked for the two nights stay. There never seemed to be anyone around to ask for help or query anything, and it was quite noisy late in the evening from other residents. The wardrobe was very small to hang sufficient clothes especially for two people and not enough hangers. The beds were not made very well on both mornings. ****I have chosen that my review is only read by the Host as I feel the Hotel to other prospective customers would not choose this Hotel because of the many negatives and therefore hope the Host/Manager notes how disappointed we were and that they were not available at the desk on our departure. It would be appreciated if the Host would reimburse some of cost of our stay, particularly as we had driven for nearly four hours to what we hoped would be a most enjoyable weekend break.
