cigarette burns on the carpet, stains on the carpet, very small room, shower curtain not screen, air conditioning unit screeching!
The hotel was clean, modern and staff were very helpful. The hotel location is a five minute walk from the quay side and a five minute walk to the bus station - were you can get a bus that takes ten mins to get to the metro centre. Didn't like the fact the hotel had no free parking facilities. You need to pay for the car park which costs around £6 per night
The hotel was very nice, clean and couldnt have asked for a nicer place to stay
Reception/housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Good location in the city. Good facilities. Bar/restaurant staff were rude and unwelcoming. Our friends were allocated a disabled room with a disabled bathroom which was not requested or needed as clearly neither of them were disabled or required such a room. We do not feel that this was acceptable.
There is nothing better in this city so its the only option! Hotels in general are very poor in the UK....the quality of the materials that they use in their buildings is really the cheapest of the cheapest.....a 3 start hotel in Germany looks better than a 5 star in the UK......the water pressure in the showers is always an issue and my bidet at home is bigger than the bathtubs!
superb views good location car parking charge
Location to attractions
Everything from the staff to the hotel room was excellent. Views across the Tyne were outstanding... Paying an extra £12.00 for the hotel parking!
The room was roomy and spotless. Lovely bathroom and excellent shower. We have a good view of the City as well. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful.
on check in there was only one member of staff so we waited quite a while to check in and there was a lot of noise right into the early hours of the morning from other guests
The staff were excellent, went above and beyond every chance they got. The location was at the Quayside Millenium Bridge, which put us right in the middle of where we wanted to be for a good price! The room decorations were a bit tired, couldn't cool the room off very well, no fan facility for bringing air into the room.
Excellent rooms which match a four star grade hotel. Friendly helpful staff and good breakfast buffet. Close to Metro Centre. Friends were upgraded to executive room.
The room was easily the best part of the hotel I thought the restaurant was very poor. I had the buffet on the Friday evening and, had difficulty in ascertaining the price - not shown on the menu - and the food was bland.
Reception staff very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble Slightly odd smell on corridor outside room, not sure what
Restaurant staff excellent. All dietary requirements catered for. First class! Quality of meals very good. Food is expensive, but plentiful. Breakfast good. Allocated an executive room upon arrival. Good size of room and very comfortable Bathroom not cleaned properly - hair clippings from previous guests on bath Low replenishment of box of paper tissues in bathroom. Cost control gone mad. Iron in room of the £5 variety. Poor quality for such an expensive hotel
Bedrooms were clean and spacious receptionist was rather cold upon our arrival as we had arrived ''too early'' but not according to our information supplied by booking .com
room size breakfast good but expensive location of hotel for excellent shopping at metro centre
We foud the hotel very comfortable, excellent facilities and a great location for shopping at the metrocentre and Newcastle
The bedroom was of the usual very high standard we associate with Marriott Hotels. Breakfast was also very good. As we approached the hotel on the M1 from the south, there were signs for the hotel, but once we had crossed the bridge and were beginning to enter the Metrocentre, there were no more signs. We took the wrong turn to the left and had to drive around for quite some time before finding the right road to the entrance. A biigger sigh near the entrance is needed!
The staff were excellant very friendly and helpful. My room was clean and exactly what i had requested. the location to the metro shopping centre is ideal
room service food was quite good and quick followed up by a courtesy call to see if all was o/k having to wait at breakfast for an egg and someone to cook it
Very cosy and recently updated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Walk-in wardrobe, walk-in shower and bath in the room. There was a separate bar for residents that was never open. The food in the pub was not up to much. When we came back to the hotel at about midnight we had to ring the bell or ring a mobile number to get in, it was more like a pub with some bedrooms than a fully functioning hotel.
The rooms were lovely, you couldn't hear the music from downstairs. The bed was far too short, for being only 5"6 that wasnt too good. Width size was great though!
The staff were very helpful and bent over backwards to please.
The hotel room and en-suite were beautifully appointed. The decoration was of the highest standard. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was very enjoyable with a good choice of food available. The only bad point was that outside our room (room 3) there is a seating area with chairs and table and we found that people gathered there to chat in the afternoon - when we were trying to nap - and in the early morning (8.30) when we'd have liked to sleep longer.
Excellent breakfast, comfortable bed, spacious room, great bath. Interesting discovery in washbasin was that red means cold and blue means hot water! Lack of choice in bar - several different brands of fizzy dishwater and no real beer in sight. Constant "music" playing throughout the public areas. Free Wi Fi Internet connection is a great facility but it was so slow that it was virtually useless and could do with an upgrade.
The staff were friendly. I stayed the week end that we had a lot of snow and two of the staff took my bags out to my car and cleared the snow off for me and made sure that I was OK. Breakfasts was very good, lots to eat if you like a big breakfast.
Management were really very helpful, food was very good and for once the pillows were very comfortable.
No complaints Except for internet not working
the hotel was close to were I was working and its location to the Angel of the North was great would of taken advance of this in summer.
Lovely little hotel with a nice country style pub attached. No complaints about the room very clean and comfy. The food in the pub was excellent my only complaint would be theres not much choice from the starter menu if like me you dont like mushrooms. But other than that I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to friends.
I enjoyed thee nice friendly pub that we enjoyed a drink in before we went out.
Attentive staff nice appointed room and quality food None
Everything was clean and tidy. The food was of a good quality and the service could not be faulted. There were none
Lovely helpful staff, great food. Bedrooms facing the main road need triple glazing as they are very noisy. Would not have a room on that side of hotel again. Bathroom could do with refurbishing.
Staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Restaurant ahd a varied menu, good quality and value for money. Location a bit quirky but adds to the interest of the hotel.
Quality of the food, excellent menu, comfortable room, smiling staff, value for money Minor point, but the coat hangers had no cross bar to hang trousers on. Also with the window open during the night the a1 was a little noisy
The location of Riding Farm is fantastic only 10 minutes from the centre of Newcastle. Very homely and very restful. Breakfast was wonderful and set us up for the whole day.
Very friendly and cosy and within easy reach of Durham and Newcastle. Lumpy pillows! (Very minor point)
Helpful pleasant staff. good breakfast. Hard to find.
Nice location close to major road links very friendly owner comfortable room and good breakfast would stay there again
Friendly staff, lovely room, superb breakfast
The accommodation was very good value for money, and exactly where we wanted to be. The owners were friendly and the breakfasts were very good. None
we enjyed the atmosphere of the hotel and the extra touches
Well appointed bedroom, ground coffee, fresh milk and chocolates in bedroom, friendly, helpful proprietors, pleasant surrounding countryside, big choice of breakfast. Location is a bit remote, but good directions were given and we did not get lost. There was no sitting room for guests' use.
We found it very peaceful with a relaxing atmosphere and a good area for country walks.
what we liked about riding farm was we had great hosts the room was first class the food was good ,it was agreat freindly atmosphere everthing about it was fantastic
Beautifully restored staircase, on site parking, central location For a "superior" room, the furnishing was a bit utility, and the battlship grey colour scheme in the refurbished corridors was depressing.
Staff very good No sky tv. Jacuzzi in bath didn't work.
Friendly staff and good facilities Noise, woken up by both guests and noise outside the hotel.
excellent location, lovely staff and good facilities.
central to pubs
They provide free internet which is great. And the location is good for travellors. The floor could be a bit of old and the noise from upstairs is annoying.
The staff were excellent and bent over backwards to help. Parking facilities
Ambience Room too small. Too hot. Window did not open. No 350
Very helpful and friendly hotel staff. Very comfortable bed and good room facilities. Traffic noise disrupted my night's sleep somewhat.
Busy city centre hotel, excellent location, very helpful staff Room was so hot has to keep window open at night even though it was snowing,
The location of the hotel is ideal. It's definitely an adult only hotel well at the weekend anyway. Male members of staff are miserable apart from that it's a great hotel The Hotel bar should be 24hr
It was very central to city centre and train station, people in Newcastle where all very helpful Found restaurant cold in mornings when having breakfast
Modern airy rooms
Location and friendliness of staff Some noise from other rooms during early hours
Comfortable beds and nice clean rooms with modern furniture A couple of large groups on stag weekends etc made alot of noise at night. There was a very noisy party in one of the rooms on our floor.
Very clean hotel, staff were friendly and helpful, good location to city.
nice rooms friendly staff and very central
Rooms and surroundings were clean, well designed and there was good access and facilities. We had noise guests ip stairs that woke us at midnight and talked loudly for ages......after a long drive not helpful. In the morning we rose about eight and realised we could not shower as there was no hot water....all had been used....disappointing and not my usual experience of your chain. Will be going yo Newcastle again but has coloured mm/our experience in a negative way.
Good location Pay for internet connectivty
Excellent breakfast, good location expensive parking!
close to city center
We enjoyed the extra luxury of staying in a prime location in the city, we got upgraded to the bridal suite and no extra cost whic was fantastic and everyone was polite and very helpful, we would certainly come again and would be happy to recommend the hotel. we also loved the bathroom, the shower was great. we did not have breakfast as it was rather expensive and all the reviews said it wasnt worth it,
Friendly staff and easy parking
Comfortable, quiet and calm.A lot of oldfashioned charm with helpful staff. Good service in restaurant.
It's proximity to the city, you couldn't get closer to the shopping and sights if you tried! The hotel was very basic, it had no atmosphere and looked shabby and in nead of a refit. A distinct lack of luxury swing as it has a 4 star rating!
Very helpful doorman who provided free map of Newcastle and information leaflet plus friendly advice Confusing 'levels' rather than floor numbers. Unusual for breakfast not to be included in room price.
its location and the high standard of the hotel. I would have liked to check in an hour earlier.
Ease of access directly to city, facilities, bars, staff, the fact that it is an independent hotel & not a chain
Location was just what I wanted Meeting friends and enjoying a very nice meal in Chinatown The Dragon House
I really liked the comfort of the rooms. To be honest I had no problem with the hotel as such.
Good stay overall. We (there were 3 of us on business) arrived at around 1 Pm and were told check in was 2 Pm so waited, only then to be told it was 3 PM. I still got my room at 2 Pm but my collagues had to use the spa to freshen up as we had a business meeting at 2.30 PM. I asked for a wake up call at 7.30 am but did not get a call. That said, still a good hotel overall and staff were friendly.
Its excellent location, good breakfast, helpful staff The decor was purple, grey and black - altogether too gloomy
Being close to Quayside. The room was well stocked with all he amenties needed for a night's stay and although we did not eat in the hotel, room service and the menu looked appropriate. We were placed in a room designed for the disabled so the bathroom layout and design was not what we expected. The room also had an ajoining door. The people who were in the next room were still talking at 4am - not 'rowdy' but loud enough to disturb our sleep.
Excellent facilities and service. Fantastic breakfast! None
The ambiance of the hotel, very peaceful and relaxing. A double booking had been put through on your website which caused some confusion at check in as they had allocated 2 rooms for us.
Parking of Car for the last night was paid for by Hotel. Car Parking Policy was not explained on Check-In even though the car Registration Number was completed on the Check-In Registration Form at the time. Breakfast staff (and most probably the supervisor) require to be trained: It took 3/4 of an hour and 3 reminders to get my breakfast of Kippers processed. The Staff commonly pass by tables with out clearing used / empty plates & bowles until the cooked breakfast plate is to be served or the tables are vacated. It is expected that the cooked breakfast plate be cleared once the contents has been eaten and pending the completion of drinking the balance of the tea / coffee pot!
large room, comfortable bed. parking at car park over the road, despite it being inexpensive. Public areas generally a liitle dark.
Staff were excellent Hotel rooms were too hot
Bar and Bistro staff very good service indeed. Nothing was too much trouble Dvd player in room wasn't working. Reported it 4 times and not got fixed. Had to checkout with dvd still stuck in machine so lost it. Hotel reception not very apologetic but gave me car park for free.
Posistion was fantastic, our rooms had floor to ceiling windows, top floor with a fab view of the river
very comfortable bed communal areas very smart and pleasant bathroom past its best and shower facilities poor- not what I would expect from hotel of this level view from room very poor
The location. Room looked shabby and very dated with thread bear seats, an uncomfortable bed, grubby bathroom with a tap that leaked water all over the sink area.We were woken repeatedly through the night by people shouting and banging on doors. This is not what you expect from such an expensive hotel, extremely poor value for money!
Close proximity to the city centre and the river views from the room Wireless internet is only in Hotel Lobby and costs £20 per day(this is not rocket science and Hotel are out of order here). Bed was a bit hard and AC was a bit hot (control problem) and overall decor/fittings etc are dated and worn and reflect the time the hotel has been trading in this location. Car parking is an excellent bonus and lots of private space available for guests. Concierge is great and knows his stuff. (In general Hotel needs refurbishing but overall a clean and tidy place to stay).
Location for city centre the whole building was cold, the air con was noisey, the bathroom was shabby and cold. the breakfast was poor and the unhrlpful
The location of the hotel was excellent and the room was adequate and the reception staff were helpful. This was our third stay at the hotel and it appears to be letting its standards slip, there were not enough bar and waiting staff and the tables were all full of uncollected plates etc,we had to wait an age to get served if the barmaid was off her mobile long enough, the breakfast was similar not enough staff, expensive, and generally cold and pour quality/
The design of the room the full length window overlooking the river. The ease of getting to The Sage and the shopping centre. Staff were extremely attentive. We would definitely stay again. Nothing there isn't anything I can find fault with
General ambienece and location
The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the quality of the accommodation was excellent There wasn't much around it if you wanted to go somewhere else for a drink or something to eat
Clean and tidy, very friendly staff ,tasty breakfast,a nice change from hotel chains.£7 taxi at most to Newcastle city centre.
The hotel is well decorated and very comfortable; the rooms are decorated to a high standard; the food was excellent; staff were attentive and very friendly without being annoying. Our room could have included a second chair.
All the staff were friendly & helpfull. The bedrooms were spacious & clean.Plenty of hot water & good quality towels, but beds a little low. This could cause you a problem if you have back problems. The lounge & bar area now looking a little jaded, but the general feeling of the place & the excellent bar service made this less noticable. In the evening we ate in the conservatory,it was a delight. The food was superb, good value for money,& the service excellent. This is worthy of praise as there were a number of large parties being served at the same time in the main dining room, but this did not effect the good service we rec'd.Breakfast was of good qualilty & plentiful. There was a wide choice including smoked salmon & kippers, which was brilliant. Very small things, yet ones that just make the stay easy.No hooks in the bathroom for toilet bags or pjs.Light over shaving mirror in bathroom either not working or too difficult to work out, extractor fan broken. We only stayed one night on our way to a family christening. If we had been staying longer they would have mattered more .
Excellent food (breakfast) - the muesli deserves an extra mention Decor in very good taste lovely bath and roomy bathroom Ample full length mirrors - although I have yet to find a hotel where I can see the back of my head when I do my hair No tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom
The staff were so friendly Not having TV in bar area
Nice, helpful staff. Tired looking room. poor showering facilities
Friendly staff, very good breakfast with wide choice of food, nice big bed to relax in.
i loved the atmosphere and the staff they were so friendly and helpful
The interior design of the rooms and the reception area and cellar bar was outstandingly elegant, uncluttered and enjoyable. We welcomed the opportunity to go to the adjoining restaurant for dinner. The water in the shower didn't drain away and Channel 5 was unobtainable - we wanted to watch the Test Match. An iron with an ironing board would be a welcome addition.
The friendliness of the staff and the extremely well-appointed room, spotlessly clean. The hotel was ideal for our theatre/shopping stopover.
handy to town centre
Decor is chic and position is terrific Breakfast service was hit and miss. No room for an armchair in the bedroom
The room was very clean and comfortable and newly furnished, staff very helpful. The panini that i ordered through room service was over cooked and hard. Also i paid cash in the morning and yet the hotel held back funds in my bank account which have not been released to date!
Contemporary modern rooms, good location in Newcastle city centre and close to bars and restaurants. Breakfast delivered to room was very poor. Room was located next to air conditioning shaft which was very noisy.
Staff went out of their way to help me with all the problems I encountered with the hotel. Too many to detail here! See the reviews on TripAdvisor too.
I was impressed with the Grey Street Hotel and will definitely be staying there again.
