Cons: Only that it was just off the beaten track.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice breakfast, great room with easy access into the city centre.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was lovely. We loved the suite and the bed was comfortable. Really enjoyed the home feel you get. Helping yourself to coffee. The hot chocolate was lovely. Thought the pantry was a great idea. Got a pizza after our night out. This hotel made us feel at home
Cons: We didn't have any complaints
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Some of the staff did not speak or acknowledge when you passed reception.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the cleanest places I have ever stayed. Breakfast informal with a good variety of cereals and pastries etc. Although we didn't use the 24 hour pantry, it was an excellent idea. On-site, covered parking meant we didn't worry about our car being safe.
Cons: Didn't enjoy the walk along the road into the city centre. Not something the hotel can change. The walk along the river was much more pleasant, even late at night and felt much safer.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Staff are cheerful and welcoming. My room had the facilities of a studio apartment including a lounge area and kitchenette. In addition, midweek social events provide a chance to mingle with other guests, along with free food and drinks. There is also free all day access to a coffee machine in the main lounge. The price was almost the same as a similarly located standard budget hotel.
Cons: Parking was an extra £8.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We always enjoy our stay the warm welcome on arrival the service is always excellent Very warm and professional food is lovely as is the atmosphere
Cons: The only thing that bothered us on our last visit was the family that arrived in the pool between 4 pm and 5 pm on Sunday last week A father with 4 very badly behaved children who let them run riot taking drinks of water from machine and throwing them into the pool them scrunching the plastic cups and leaving them all over the side of the pool not to mention the behaviour in the changing rooms
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, large comfortable room, good ambiance in the restaurant with good food well prepared and presented. The spa facilities were good.
Cons: N/A

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean..friendly...good facilities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel, great rooms, great spa facilities, nice food in the conservatory restaurant all in fantastic surroundings with friendly staff.
Cons: Room was very hot on a night for sleeping and there was limited relaxing chairs around the pool area.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: A Christmas party below our room was noisy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent spa and gym
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was nice as you'd expect, though the layout was a bit unusual requiring you to move the furniture out of the way to access the Balcony. The staff were generally very helpful and polite. We used the Spa and that was perfectly fine.
Cons: The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. We were part of the wedding group and in a private room, which was in reality not big enough for the size of the party. The staff did their best but service was poor, tables were not cleared at all and a number of orders were missed altogether. The breakfast itself was nice enough but missed baked beans, which a full English should have. Perhaps the chef is trying a more upmarket image but similar venues (Armathwaite Hall, Slaley Hall) do this better. To their credit however the wedding breakfast was excellent and as a wedding venue Matfen hall was exceptional, the main hall in particular puts other venues to shame.
Jesmond Dene House - Newcastle upon Tyne - Building
5
9.2 Excellent (1,066 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Jesmond Dene House is a small, 4 AA red star privately-owned boutique-style hotel with 40 bedrooms that sits nestled within the wooded valley of Jesmond Dene. A country hotel setting yet only minutes from the suburb of Jesmond or bustle of Newcastle city centre and the quayside. The original house was Georgian, designed for a local doctor in 1822 by John Dobson who was responsible for many of Newcastles handsome streets. It was then developed in the late 19th century for Sir Andrew Noble, business partner to Lord Armstrong, the great Victorian inventor and engineer. The Grade II-Listed Arts and Crafts mansion was extended and enhanced until it was bought by Newcastle City Council in 1933. For the next 65 years, it had various uses, including being used as a college, Civil Defence establishment, seminary, and as a residential school. The building was in a very bad derelict state when it was bought, restored and then opened as a hotel in 2005. In addition to the bedrooms there is a 3 AA Rosette restaurant offering a selection of daily menu options ranging from breakfast and afternoon tea to A la carte dinner or Sunday lunch. Functions, weddings and business events can also be accommodated in a choice of four private rooms including the Great Hall, a spectacular, double-height room catering for up to 100 guests and with oak and silk wall panelling, Gothic windows, carved inglenook fireplace and minstrels gallery. The aim of the hotel, since opening, is to provide the highest levels of service, hospitality and food for both business and leisure guests, using local produce and suppliers where possible.

Pros: The staff were exceptional. Friendly and very helpful.
Cons: The names on doors was confusing when we were asked which room we where in..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and atmosphere
Cons: Car park charge was a bit steep!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed for 8 days in a standard double room and 3 days in a superior double room. Both rooms were clean, tidy, quiet and comfortable. The superior room was outstanding. Staff were polite, helpful and prompt. The food in the bistro is excellent and also reasonably good value for money. The fish (cod, sole and kippers) were first-rate. The baths are enormous (reclaimed Victorian, I imagine) and wonderfully comfortable.
Cons: I'm a clean freak, so limescale and the odd spot of mould around bathroom and shower taps rankled with me. This could easily be fixed with limescale remover and a little brush every now and then. Pillows and mattresses were acceptable, but could have been better. One young, pushy waiter had a habit of engaging people in conversation about their choices of wine when they, and I, quite obviously would have preferred to have been left alone. Sometimes less is more.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Food service staff location comfort
Cons: Nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, fantastic room. Little touches like mini mince pies all added to the stay
Cons: No issues to raise

Pros: Fantastic property lovey large comfortable room and bed very quiet and peaceful
Cons: Would have loved a bath as the bathroom was huge, also wasn’t aware from bookings that only continental breakfast but probably me not reading the small print
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I thought the people running the hotel were very friendly, the room was dressed period correct with the 4 poster bed. Loads of tea and coffee on hand. A little tricky to find in the daylight, but driving up to the electric gates makes you feel special before the experience even started. I would love to go back in the summer as the grounds I think would be spectacular
Cons: Breakfast was quite simple, it would have been nice to have a small choice of meats and cheese slices to go with the toast, or maybe bagel, but that is more because I am not a cereal fan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really great atmosphere, cosy, clean, generously sized room. Friendly and welcoming staff. Convenient location, beautiful grounds. A good mixture of being an easy journey into the city and feeling as though you are in the countryside. Brilliant selection on the continental breakfast.
Cons: Nothing! The only small downside was not knowing where the gym was, but went for a walk along the gorgeous Keelmans way which is just a couple of minutes walk from the hotel instead.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Convenient location for train station
Cons: Computers down at check-in. No hot water due to bust pipe Cold room and no soap in bathroom
5.0 Okay
Pros: The room size
Cons: The toilet cistern constantly ran when flushed until you pushed it a second time. There was a lot of noise late because of a function. The food portions were small and also the quality wasn't as good as I had expected. The TV had to be unplugged and restarted to work. The reception staff weren't really interested in the feedback. Apparently all the toilets are the same....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is lovely. The staff were extremely pleasant & helpful.
Cons: Our room basically looked out into a wall & was modified for guests with a disability with a door to the room next door. As both of us work in care it was a bit ironic. Luckily we had a very busy weekend & only really slept in the room.

Pros: All staff were polite & helpfu;l Thank You Nigel & Paula griffiths
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, nice modern and weirdly gothic styled hotel. The designer bar and restaurant is decorated and furnished with furnishings that simply wouldn't work in any normal home. Situated next to the Tyne, baltic, restaurants and bars such as the Pitch and Piano and a easy promenade walkway along the river towards the centre, shops, more bars and restaurants. Parking is in the multi storey opposite and there's plenty of taxis at a rank which is located right outside the hotel. Prices for food and drink in the hotel are a little to expensive but don't be put off it's a really nice place and worth paying the extra to have to enjoy a few to many!!.
Cons: The price of the food and drinks.
