Hinton hotels

One of my favourite things about Overlander Mountain Lodge is Stone Peak Restaurant, the on-site eatery. It’s the best restaurant in Hinton; one of the best in the entire region, in fact. It serves up farm-to-table Rocky Mountain cuisine at its finest. There’s also a cosy on-site lounge.

I stayed in a room on the mountainside of the property and I loved the views from the private deck. This rustic-style mountain lodge was originally built in 1963 and has been recently renovated.

There are a variety of accommodation options including rooms in the main lodge, Miette rooms in a separate building, heritage cabins, kitchenette rooms, chalets, and holiday homes with up to three bedrooms. My top tip: it’s about a 30-minute drive from Overlander Mountain Lodge to Miette Hot Springs, the hottest natural hot springs in the Canadian Rockies.

The first time I stayed overnight in Hinton, my husband and I chose this property because it ticked all the boxes. Included with your stay you get a hot buffet breakfast, an on-site restaurant, indoor pool, hot tub, fitness centre, business centre, and comfy rooms. We enjoyed our stay so much that we went back to Hinton and took our kids.

There’s a Ricky’s All-Day Grill right next door and two other restaurants within walking distance. The included breakfast is very good for a hotel offering, and there’s a coffee machine in the lobby and vending machines if you fancy a snack.

All rooms have fridges and microwaves and some have kitchenettes or full kitchens. There’s also an on-site laundromat and an electric vehicle charging station.

I love the smell of the forest surrounding these cabins and the peace I feel when I wander through the woods. The cabins are just a short drive from the eastern entrance to Jasper National Park.

Even though the cabins feel very secluded, there’s a brewery right by the entrance with a pizza truck near the beer gardens in the summer months. Folding Mountain Brewing Taproom and Kitchen serves great craft beers and casual pub food.

On the property, you’ll find a general store and café, an art gallery, and a barbecue and fire pit area. The log cabins range in size from studios to three-bedroom units and have fully equipped kitchens with granite work surfaces and comfortable queen beds. The cosy cabins and their many amenities make this property one of the best hotels in Hinton.

This is one of the best hotels in Hinton for a digital detox. While there is a Wi-Fi hot spot at the office, service is slow. It’s a great place to focus on real-life social interactions – and there’s a game room cabin with board games and books to help with that.

Jasper Gates Resort sits on 17 acres of forested land at the base of Folding Mountain. There are 17 heritage log cabins, a motel with 30 hotel rooms, and an RV camp ground. It’s a short walk to Folding Mountain Brewing Taproom and Kitchen and Jasper East Cabins.

The heritage log cabins were built in the 1940s and have been recently renovated. Each cabin has a king-size bed and a futon, as well as a kitchenette and a bathroom. Ten of the motel rooms have kitchenettes and all rooms on the property come with fridges, satellite TVs, DVD players, and air conditioning.

The lobby, which is fittingly called the living room, is the thing that impressed me most about this property. I love the large murals of summer and winter mountain scenes on the upper walls. There’s also a fireplace, comfy couches and chairs, a dining area, and the front desk.

The indoor pool, hot tub, waterslide, and free laundry facilities make this one of the top hotels in Hinton for families. There’s also a fitness centre, and the included buffet breakfast is top-notch, offering eggs, pancakes, ham or bacon, cereal, toast, and muffins.

Rooms come in several configurations and all have fridges, microwaves, and Keurig coffee makers. The family room can accommodate up to six people and has a full kitchen. There’s also a Jacuzzi suite for special occasions, as well as pet-friendly rooms.

One of the things I like best about this hotel is its location. Hinton Lodge is one of the best hotels in Hinton for those who want to explore on foot or use public transport. There’s a bus stop in front of the property, and it’s within walking distance of several restaurants, a grocery store, Hinton Forest Lookout Point, and the shops of Park West Mall.

Hinton Lodge has an exercise room, a hot tub, coin-operated laundry, a business centre, and a very good included breakfast with hot and cold items, such as eggs, sausages or bacon, waffles, and bagels.

There are no pet-friendly rooms, which could make this the perfect Hinton hotel for those with allergies. The property has 86 newly refurbished rooms, 21 of which have kitchenettes. Meanwhile, Executive Suites have fireplaces, and the honeymoon suite has a hot tub and a fireplace.

These cute cabins are a 10-minute drive from Jasper Lake Sand Dunes, the only sand dunes in the Canadian Rockies. Jasper Lake – which is not really a lake but an expansion of the Athabasca River – is one of my favourite places to be on a hot summer's day. I love how you can wade out incredibly far in the shallow water.

Located in a forested area inside Jasper National Park, the resort has a swimming pool and bike hire in summer and snowshoe hire in winter. The hot tub, coin-operated laundry, camp store, games room, and lounge are open year-round.

There are lodge rooms and cabins at this property, each offering different amenities. All units have TVs, Wi-Fi, a bathroom with a bathtub, and complimentary coffee and tea. Some cabins and lodge rooms also have full kitchens and can sleep up to six people.

Food is definitely the way to my heart, and this hotel has the best complimentary breakfast in town. You’ll find two types of eggs (omelette and scrambled), hash browns, two kinds of meat (turkey sausages and bacon), pancakes, cold and hot cereal, toast, bagels, cinnamon buns, yogurt, coffee, and juices. They’re really proud of their breakfast – and they should be!

A pool with a waterslide, laundry facilities, a fitness centre, a business centre, and that great breakfast make this one of my favourite hotels in Hinton.

This property has standard rooms and suites to choose from. All rooms have microwaves, fridges, and coffee makers and are air-conditioned. Some rooms also have jetted tubs. Top tip: the hotel is a short drive from Gus’ Pizza Place and Rojo Marrón Mexican Restaurant & Café – two great casual restaurants in Hinton.

I’ve always loved boutique properties that are unique and memorable. That’s exactly what you get when you stay at Black Cat Guest Ranch, a 25-minute drive southwest of Hinton. And that’s what makes this one of the best hotels in Hinton and the surrounding area.

The ranch is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and rooms have wonderful Rocky Mountain views. While the ranch doesn’t offer trail riding, there’s a place nearby that does. There are also plenty of excellent hiking trails nearby. One of my favourites is the Athabasca Lookout Trail in William A. Switzer Provincial Park. The view from the top is exceptional.

The ranch and its 16 cosy rooms are rustic and all come with private bathrooms. Guests have access to a refrigerator and a microwave, and a hearty freshly-made complimentary breakfast is included. Homemade snacks, fruit, tea, and coffee are also available throughout the day.

The Beaver Boardwalk, the world’s longest freshwater boardwalk, is just a four-minute drive from this hotel. It’s my favourite place to go for a walk in Hinton.

Twin Pine Inn & Suites has a lot going for it, but one of the things I like best is the on-site restaurant and lounge. The Woodcutter Lounge serves beer on tap and cocktails alongside casual pub food. Since the pub serves alcohol and has VLT gaming machines, it’s worth noting minors aren’t allowed inside. If you’re travelling with kids, you can order the food to go and eat in your room.

All rooms have air conditioning, fridges, a microwave, and a coffee maker. There are also some designated pet-friendly rooms – Beaver Boardwalk is a great place to take your dog for a walk.
