Built with stone and wood, in the village of Kastraki, Guesthouse Vavitsas offers elegantly decorated rooms with views of Meteora Rocks and their famous monasteries. It has a restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, 40 metres away. Each featuring a furnished balcony, Vavitsas rooms are decorated with stylish wallpapers and crystal chandeliers. They come with an LCD TV, mini fridge and air conditioning. Free toiletries, a hairdryer and slippers can be found in the private bathroom. The town of Kalabaka is only 3.5 km away from the guesthouse and the town of Trikala is at 25 km. The surrounding area is also ideal for mountain biking, climbing and hiking. Pros: I had a great experience in this place. The room, while not huge, was modern and attractive. Nice bed, nice furniture including a fridge. Strong A/C, comfortable bed, and excellent attached balcony to chill or just dry your clothes. The receptionist/manager was super helpful -- had lots of info about where to go in town, how to get around, how to visit the monasteries, and very patient. There are restaurants nearby and the town square of Kastraki is about a ten minute walk. Kastraki is a cute, laidback mix of tourist accommodations and residential areas so it takes a few minutes to walk from one place to another, but there's no rush and all around you are stunning towering rocks.

Pros: We stayed in an Apartment with Meteora View, it was very spacious and comfortable. The only thing that could improve the use of the balcony during afternoon/evening would be a shade screen as the afternoon sun becomes quite intense. A good Breakfast was available with a section of cereals,fruits and some hot foods, which could be had inside or out in the garden. Staff excellent and nothing a problem. Parking available and a short down hill walk to the centre of town. Recommended.

But the location in the village of Kastraki, up against the Metora outcroppings, was the best! We ate both nights at a taverna in the town square and our daughter joined local children on the town playground after supper!

Pros: We chose this hotel because of its proximity to Meteora. We enjoyed the sight of the mountains sitting outside the hotel with a welcome drink offered by the hotel's friendly staff. Staff were extremely kind , especially Kostas and Christos, who provided us with useful information about the monestaries we planned to visit next morning and urged us to get going up the hill to see the wonderful sunset. We had a lovely breakfast before starting our trip to the Monestaries and all an all, had a wonderful stay there.

Pros: We really loved the hotel and the area. The rooms are well-furnished, elegant and really warm. Also our room has a lovely balcony and great Meteora view even we can see the view from bathroom! Rooms are big, silent and cozy. Double bed was really big, 3 persons can fit:) Hotel owners are really helpful and hospitable. They gave all the needed informations about the area. Breakfast was good enough for a fresh start and cheap. Dont forget to stay a little in the hotel terrace. Parking is free and comfortable. Wifi is good.

Pros: This delightful guest house is a great base for exploring the magnificent monasteries in the Meteora, being situated a short walk from the centre. Some may find the location a little surprising at first, being at the back of the town but we found it very safe and convenient with no problems parking our car. The owner has worked tirelessly to create a haven for weary travellers to recover from a long day’s sightseeing: the pool was perfect and the setting magnificent with a view of the towering rocks above. Staff extremely helpful and the owner absolutely charming - always with a warm smile and friendly greeting. Rooms extremely clean and quiet - we were overlooking the street but there were no noise issues as the area is essentially residential. Breakfasts were generous with some delicious homemade pastries and jams. Highly recommended!

Pros: We arrived very early at 5:30am, the owner left the keys for us to go inside and well prepared the room for us to take rest, and reserved the rental car outside the hotel. Even we woke up 2 hours later than the reserved time, they didn't disturbed us and still shown very friendly.

Just to name but one example, we were in very late, but the staff was still willing to provide us with room service diner. They also gave us a free upgrade. The themed room design is great. Rooms are clean and highly comfortable. The serve a nice breakfast, and the view on the boulders is nice. In sum, excellent. Especially considering the price.

Nice views from second floor room to Meteora, really enjoyed having breakfast on the balcony facing Meteora. Rooms are small and simple but clean and comfortable. Best rooms are to be found on the 3rd floor though. Some could describe breakfast as poor but it was ok for us. We would stay there again for sure.

Pros: What an amazing property at the base of Meteora! The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, and our accommodations for a family of 4 were so comfortable. Our kids even slept in both mornings we were there, and that never happens! Breakfast each morning hit the spot, especially since it was homemade (including the wonderful marmalade and desserts). Pros: The overall hospitality of all the people involved in running the accommodation and the accompanying restaurant was first class. Our room had a great view of the rock formations. With the tourist information across the street it was easy to book our half day monastery tour and the next day our afternoon tour which included the sunset. Both well worth it. The local bus is readily available also. We used the tour company and local bus as we had no car. Great little community.

Pros: Had a really nice stay at Guest House Plakias. The room was really large with a balcony, were you had a wonderful view of the mountains of Meteora. The brothers Nikos and Dimitri and their mother make you really feel at home. The meals at their Taverna were a great example of traditional Greek dishes. All made by the brothers on the grill or by their mother in the kitchen. The Taverna had a nice blend of locals and tourists.

Pros: Plakias is a little gem.The ensuite rooms are bright and spacious with balcony views of Meteora. Breakfast is served in the adjoining rustic taverna, shaded by two large trees. It also serves home-made meals and is popular with locals and tourists alike. There is also free WiFi. All of this alone would make Plakias a great place to stay. Yet there is more; the hospitality and generosity of Dimitris, Nikos and their extended family is truly amazing. I stayed for 6 nights and it was a privilege. A very happy and charming experience

Mr Papastathis speaks very good German, and is always available for a talk with his guests and to tell them about tours in Meteora, Greece, etc. The house is in standard style, the room was big, clean, with a nice view, comfortable, parking (!) and breakfast was simple but very good. WIFI free, but mainly in the dinning room (in the bedroom was a little weak). Very nice terrace in front of the house, with wonderfull view! All in all the value for money rate was excellent.
Cons: I have always problems with showers with a simple courtain...You know, the floor in the toilet becomes wet and there are no elements available to clean after the shower, and then have to clean with the bath carpet, what may be is not optimal.
The dining room is big and has a good view but needs some more ambience (music from time to time, colour..), some life, specially during breakfast or at night.

Pros: Overall, we enjoyed our overnight stay at Alexiou Hotel. The rooms met our expectations in terms of size, cleanliness and comfort. The Wi-Fi speed was good. The lady that met us at the reception was very courteous and helpful, and provided us with maps and various useful tips about Kalambaka and the nearby Meteora. The hotel fulfilled our request for extra beds in some of the rooms.
Cons: There were limited views of a few Meteora boulders from the room balconies, as there is another hotel directly opposite Alexiou hotel. Based on the hotel description, we expected somewhat more impressive and scenic views. Another minor complaint is that the fridges in some of the rooms were not working.
