8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very luxurious environment and fabulous attention to detail by all the staff. Everything was perfect! We upgraded our room on arrival to a suite - this had lots of space, walk-in wardrobe, huge bathroom and amazing sea views. The breakfast was superb with attentive staff taking orders for hot dishes and providing fresh toast, tea and coffee. The breakfast buffet was superb. The restaurant for dinner was extremely good, varied menu and good value. The communal areas, lounges and pool areas were beautifully decorated and well furnished. The staff were smiling and happy to provide an efficient and gracious service across all areas of the hotel! This was the BEST HOTEL, but the most expensive hote, we stayed in during our 3 week South Africa trip and we stayed in 7 different hotels!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Where to start.... Location, few minute walk from lookout and a lovely sandy beach. Great facilities. Staff were incredibly helpful and made the occasion extra special, even if they got my wife’s name wrong on the paperwork. Restaurant there served incredible breakfast along with lunch and evening meals. Pretty much everything about this place is amazing.
Cons: Stayed for my honeymoon and on either correspondence had ‘Cynthia’ when in fact my wife’s name is Danielle. I found that to be rather insulting upon arrival and check out (I had corrected this on their paperwork). Where they got this name, I have no idea. I appreciate that mistakes are made, however I felt this to be a poor touch. Nonetheless, the staff were all incredibly polite and helpful.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: I didn’t the fact that when we arrived having prepaid for half the trip, we were put into a room which the knew no one would want to stay in and then charge an additional approx £140 a night extra to get what we should have got in the first place. As seasoned travellers and now knowing we will be returning regularly, I doubt we will be staying at the Plettenberg (unfortunately ). The original room we were given would struggle to achieve more than £250 a night of anyone’s money. We ended up paying nearly £700 a night .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was in a fantastic location and the facilities and staff were superb.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, very good restaurant, lovely location, excellent massage and perfect view.
Cons: The rooms are a bit expensive for SA and even for the very good standard. But we will definitely come back.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Well run hotel with good attention to detail
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Luxurious atmosphere and facilities
Cons: Wifi strength and speed was poor!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It’s location and views. The rooms were clean and classic. All inclusive breakfast was abundant and delicious.
Cons: The passage way outside our bedroom that anyone walking passed could look in.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel, will defiantly be staying here again if we go
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Ann Marie was particularly helpful giving us information and advice on where to visit. The headland Walk was great. All the staff are delightful at The Robberg Lodge.
Cons: The weather- it was atrocious! Most unfortunate as the Robberg beach opposite the hotel is beautiful.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location is nice but not at height of season, rooms were spacious
Cons: Beds were ridiculously short (1.8 m) and the door to our loft was a half door that could only be entered side ways. Buildings and rooms were spread out with lots of slippery steps and no umbrellas offered. Mediocre service and food. All in all a disappointment.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was excellent. Dinner was good. Property was clean and staff was friendly.
Cons: We had a small room with and old look and worn-out bed. For the money spend, I expected exeptional, but what I got was a disappointment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great, we had an amazing sea view and the service was very very good!
Cons: It felt a bit to expensive and everything was an additional charge and the wifi wasn't very good
6.0 Good
Pros: Our suite was huge and there were books all over the hotel.
Cons: Our suite was only accessible by going up and down stairs outside. About a 5 min walk in the rain a few times a day and no umbrellas or mopped floors. The entrance to our suite was a half door that could only be accessed sideways and the bed was 180 cm only in length. Service was mediocre

Pros: Wonderful position, comfortable room and good breakfast.
Cons: Whilst the staff were helpful the place seemed soleless.
7.0 Good
Pros: rooms comfortable staff very helpful location sells the hotel however last year they had a superb restaurant which this year they had closed, a great shame
Cons: Stale cornflakes no croissants just bread of 3 types to toast yourself Small plastic containers of marmalade not enough for a piece of toast. Should have little jars like other hotels-- be green !
9.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome. This was our second visit. Our room overlooked the lagoon and was a bit on the small side but had a pleasant bathroom. They are obviously very busy, as we booked in May for January and a good sized ocean view room wasn’t available unfortunately! Fantastic location, right on the beach and you can easily walk across the sand (5/6 mins) to eat at the Lookout/Grand. Upstairs is a café style place and downstairs, attractively decorated restaurant (smart/casual) with lovely staff and good food. We hope to go back to the Milkwood Manor again and get one of those ocean view rooms!
Cons: Our room had a very small wardrobe.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, friendly staff
6.0 Good
Pros: The position was the best...right on the beach It was ok for an overnight stay
Cons: The picture of the balcony was a bit misleading....it did not say that there is a roof in front of you and to see the sea you needed to stand up.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location to visit Plettenberg and to have some nive days at a pefect beach. Calm, easy to reach, great breakfast, direct at the beach

Pros: Magical treehouse in an enchanted forest. Tranquil and a much needed stop on our honeymoon
Cons: Nothing it was perfect.
7.0 Good
Pros: The rooms are lovely romantic and beautiful , staff were nice and attentive - may be perfect for some couples who want to stay in their tree house and do very little
Cons: very expensive for what we got out of it, the facilities were lacking with no pool, very quiet with no little atmosphere.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The lodge is absolutely stunning and, as it happened, the weather while we were there was awful so we had every opportunity to stay inside and enjoy the fire and the luxury - unfortunately not the pool or deck. Our meal at Zinzi was fabulous - highly recommend.
Cons: By SA standards it’s definitely very expensive - albeit it is lovely.

For guests' convenience, airport pickup can be arranged. When it comes to Plettenberg Bay hotels, the Nothando Backpackers Lodge is highly regarded for its excellent facilities.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - nice staff, also flexibel when I had to change my check in rate! - spacious relaxing area - second sink in the dorm (outside the bathroom)
Cons: - one combined shower/toilet is tricky if the dorm is full with 8 people - there were a lot of dead ants on the floor of the bathroom as the dorm hadn't been used for a couple of days. - interior design is appropriate for the price
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We had a great stay here and had all that we could ask for. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. Also a great location, not far from the main road. We ended up booking another night.
Cons: The room was a little hot, but a fan was provided.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nothando was a great choice for my only night in Plettemberg Bay. It is close to pharmacies, supermarket and restaurants (5min walk), has a lot of parking space and also provides some extras that are great for backpackers: laundry at a reasonable price (26 rands per kilo), amazing restaurant inside (r80 for a great fettucini) and breakfast for R60.
Cons: The room has everything you need, but it could have a better bed and a thicker door at the bathroom. Besides that, the staff was great and we loved our stay.
7.9 Good
Pros: Comfortable bed and good kitchen and bathroom facilities. Gardens well-maintained,pool a bonus.
Cons: Preferred making our own arrangements for breakfast and dinner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just perfect for our overnight

Pros: The Restaurant area and Patio was fantastic. Excellent food and wonderful friendly staff
Cons: Bit noisy and the photo on bookings.com was misleading. No hairdryer in the room????
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right in the centre of shopping street which was handy the street is very quiet at night. You need a car to get to the beach.
Cons: Could not fault anything
6.0 Good
Pros: Liked the secure parking and the very convenient location Security and cameras very good Breakfast in good setting and croissants delicious Liked the fact that everything was within walking distance
Cons: Front of house staff not particularly friendly but warmed up a little later. Didn’t like not having a pool to cool off Didn’t like the tour bus outside our window with noisy engine Tv channels much to be desired. Second renovated room that we were moved to much better No hairdryer and tissues supplied in room

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff all very friendly and well trained. Everything is spotlessly clean. On site restaurant serves awesome breakfasts.
Cons: The timeshare units definitely need aircons! Road noise in unit 3 all night is quite bad.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I did not eat at the property but the location is exceptional and the apartment was spacious and the children enjoyed their games
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location , good services , kids friendly accommodation
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: . The room was good and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. The gardens were great as was the pool
Cons: The property is on the main highway so there was nothing within walking distance . The restaurant only had one choice of meal per night. And only opened if they had enough pre-bookings, so you never knew if you were going to get a meal until you turned up.
7.9 Good
Pros: The apartment we had was large and very clean. The location was also good. The restaurant is decent but lots of items on the menu are unavailable at times. The pool is great
Cons: The rooms were uncomfortably hot. There were some ceiling fans which barely did anything. It was so hot that we had to keep the windows open which meant that mosquitos came in at night and bit us quite badly. We then asked for two fans which they had, but it’s just upsetting that they did not offer these to us in the first place.

4.0 Okay
Pros: Location was fine - good view from our window Monkeys occasionally visiting the pool and area - depends on your taste! Very close to an excellent brewery and restaurant Barrington’s
Cons: Wifi worst by far of 8 places we stayed in SA No generator - with daily power cuts meant no wifi at all , no fan etc No air conditioning - just a fan Connecting door and could hear people in neighbouring room clearly
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great accommodation! Luxury rooms, lot of space and very nice outdoor facilities. There is an amazing fireplace to sit and relax. Stuff, especially Cornelius!, with outstanding service and kindness.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Property great
Cons: The accommodation was wonderful value and just what we wanted Unfortunately they were not geared up to all visitors having breakfast at 8.30 Coffee ran out as did the dishes to serve ourselves with fruit or cereal. However the scramble egg and poached egg and bacon when it came were delicious. More staff training needed. But all very friendly

An absolute recomendation for anyone staying in the Plettenberg location. The most friendly staff we encountered during our vacation. Realy special is the chef giving you a personal feeling by discussing the diner menu with you during breakfast and serving a diner of superb quality. This hotel is a must for everyone.

7.2 Good (101 reviews)

1.0 Poor
Pros: Not a lot
Cons: See my previous review...old tired shabby
6.0 Good
Pros: Loved the comfy bed
Cons: The breakfast options for vegetarians need to be worked on, one cannot be eating the same thing over and over because there are no other better options to choose from. Also kindly revamp your dining hall and give it a bit of life. Lovely
4.0 Okay
Cons: Reception not very helpful. No Wifi in the rooms
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great fish and chips.
1.0 Poor
Pros: Large bed. Clean bathroom.
Cons: Not as described. DO NOT BOOK!! Checked out early as really not happy. No wifi in the room as stated, no air con, the ceiling fan did nothing. Really shabby decor, building works around the place, tiny pool. The spa was not a spa but a small office, no-one at the desk. Bathroom was clean but dated. Not the luxury as the photos showed. The breakfast was poor, limited choice sat on plastic chairs. I am baffled this is classed as 4 star and can call itself a spa resort. Not a nice feel at all and the staff were uninterested.

5.8 Okay
Pros: Bruce was very helpful but they just need a little time to get everything in order. Fantastic food but unfortunately not every night. With a bit of time and a bit of love to the place it could be very nice. Room was small but ok.
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: My rooms was not available and I was downgraded with the one and upgraded with another, I had to pay for the upgrade and renegotiated the downgrade. My kids room was not up to standard at all and the shower was block the duration of our stay. There was so many issues that I will not return and it is for sure not a 4 star
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I will not say I enjoyed in South Africa but I really enjoyed in this hotel and Mr.Bruce Wylie really was very nice... right man in the right place
5.8 Okay
Pros: Generally Bruce and the staff are friendly & flexible, and the location decent enough to explore Plett and the surroundings.
Cons: Our experience was in peak season so our perception and the review below were naturally impacted by an expectation of a 4* hotel and the pricing which came along with it (c. 3,000 ZAR per night). The main issue was severe understaffing, with Bruce generally having to take care of a million things and seemingly working around the clock without much support. There was no receptionist, his cook fell ill, they ran out of food at dinner, the breakfast buffet looked like a war zone by 09:30/10:00, the WiFi had a very weak signal beyond the main house and was very slow in the main house itself (possibly impacted by high season demand in the area), there was no capacity to deal with laundry service, the mountain bikes hadn’t been serviced in 6 months (or possibly more) and weren’t usable etc. Throughout all of this, Bruce remained extremely apologetic and kind. However, beyond this peak season madness, the reality is that this property has rooms which haven’t had much maintenance over the past few years with old bathrooms and musty smelling cupboards, and having experienced two sets of rooms in different parts of the manor, we can confidently say that the guest experience may differ significantly depending on which room you get (our second was in a better state and very quaint). As a summary, we hope that Bruce soon gets more staff to support...! With more staff, some corrections on the booking listing (e.g. the queen size room which is listed as 30sqm is probably not more than 20sqm, a reduced pricing to reflect the level of the establishment), then we are sure that future guests can have a wonderful stay which meets their expectations.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the amazing view! The rooms were a good size, manager was super friendly breakfast was fantastic!
Cons: It's cold in winter would of been lovely if there was an extra blanket or thicker duvet.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff Delicious breakfast
7.9 Good
Pros: We loved the surroundings and the views. It was nice and quiet and we had a comfortable relaxed stay. Bruce is a friendly and welcoming host and made us feel at home

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, staff and food . Loads of quirky areas and great restaurant with fabulous views Definitely stay here - but take care in your room choice .
Cons: Some rooms don’t have air con and our room ( No 1 ) didn’t . It was simply unbearable - no sleep , even with all the windows and balcony door open !!. The staff are clearly aware and we discovered as we left that they moved our neighbours in No 2 to a room with air con . It’s such a shame as there are loads of lovely areas and attention to detail touches have been made throughout . It was a hot humid time , but , really !. My watch said the room temp was 40 degrees ( at night).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Nothing to fault. Staff and facilities met our expectations. Diana was a gem with her knowledge of local attractions.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is extraordinary. It has an amazing vibe, the decor is beautiful and the staff are all so friendly. They went above and beyond to help me with my dietary needs and when things weren’t possible they communicated this clearly.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely stunning location and property , magnificent views and very quirky . Rooms are spacious and plush . We had pizza at Simons which was delicious . Breakfast the next morning is a magnificent spread . Pool area was lovely to lounge by
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really friendly and accommodating. It was great to get some advice at breakfast on what there was to do in the local area and there is so much to do. The restaurant was also amazing and would highly recommend it
7.0 Good
Pros: We enjoyed or stay here. Its a very nice, unique property and the rooms are very big and clean. Staff are quite friendly but without going over and above like some of the places we stayed at in South Africa. The views are stunning from the rooms and the restaurant. Laundry service was a big plus
Cons: Breakfast is nice although service can be slow and we had to ask for coffee multiple times. The owners daughter was getting married at the property and days before the 'guest' pool was taken over by a hen/bachelorette party. We had no prior warning on this and when myself and my partner went to use the pool we were met with looks as if to say 'who are you and get out'. This was most uncomfortable and not really what you would expect given the price you pay to stay there!
7.0 Good
Pros: Stunning location, beautiful rooms and wonderful dinner at Emily’s.
Cons: Service was poor, however we raised this with management and our concerns were quickly addressed.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location with an amazing view. The restaurants are very nice and the staff is very friendly. The breakfast was amazing and it was nice that the owners dropped bu every morning to check upon the guests.
Cons: We had an amazing room (family room - 10) but unfortunately no view from the room itself. The side room had mould and therefore smelled a bit.
Plett River Lodge - Plettenberg Bay - Bedroom

7.2 Good (77 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Plett River Lodge in Plettenberg Bay, you'll be on a river, within a 10-minute drive of Plettenberg Bay Beach and Garden Route National Park. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved its tranquility and just the general authentic ambiance of the place. Everyone was incredible kind and help.
Cons: Perhaps more coordination to ensure good mirrors in good light close to a plug. Our bathroom could quite easily have had a back to back plug on bathroom wall facing tub as it would be at a legally safe distance. There is an amazing mirror which is perfect for drying hair and doing makeup. The room our daughter stayed in was also very comfortable but lacked good mirror and lighting for hair and makeup. Otherwise we loved our short stay and I would really like to go and stay there again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing food, amazing location but the part that really impressed me was their staff. Some of the best service we have ever experienced.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff exceptional- warm, friendly, very accommodating. Charming architecture and furnishings. Very spacious. Own deck right on the river. Amazing views. Beautiful river. Great to have a proper restaurant right on the premises.
Cons: 1. Outside Environment very artistic but inside the rooms only few tiny photos on the walls. Subject matter in the photo frames could be more local. Needs a little more art inside the rooms. 2. Bit of an electrical ‘hum’ inside room 4 at night - some sort of machinery near by?
6.0 Good
Pros: The Robberg beach was also great for walks, good facilities with lifeguards on duty.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: NA - not included
Cons: We arrived after a 20 hour flight from Europe to George then a long car trip, beyond exhausted. The property was desolate. There was NOBODY in reception. This was around 5pm. I had to go searching the kitchens and other areas to find anyone. We were extremely hungry and wanted to have something to eat. We were told that there was no food whatsoever as the restaurant was shut. Full payment could not be taken on my card on arrival as lodges facilities were not working. A member of staff repeatedly and incessantly harassed me in my room, in the restaurant and even as I was en route to a wedding. Due to load shedding the code on the electronic security gate did not work. My daughters and I were LOCKED OUT OF THE PROPERTY at 3am after a wedding. We had to climb over fences and ripped our clothes.
7.0 Good
Cons: It wasn't well taken care as the last time we were there four years ago. The WiFi in the rooms has terrible reception.

7.9 Good
Pros: Room decor and situation were beautiful- location in the forest is peaceful and relaxing and remote. Staff were polite and lit a fire for us in the room. Massages were great.
Cons: Dinner and breakfast were okay but would benefit from a better and more experienced chef. Would appreciate good coffee at breakfast. You need to pay and book in advance to use the spa. There is no WiFi.
7.1 Good
Cons: Good was okay‘ish, but not SA-Standart, the Suite is basically next to the breakfast room, so no privacy, same goes for the toilet.

Pros: Quaint, cozy and luxurious! This forest hotel was our final stop on our holiday and was perfect. The rooms are immaculate, the facilities cozy and the staff Ingrid, Bruce, wonderful and Enrique couldn’t do enough for you. We were lucky to have arrived in the sunshine and to make use of the pool but the weather changes quickly and for our second day it rained. The thing is it doesn’t matter, you have sun loungers and a pool when it’s sunny and they light fires and it becomes a cozy home from home when it’s cold! There is nothing in walking distance so prepare to relax. They do a 3 course dinner in the hotel which I highly recommend, Bruce is an amazing chef! Breakfast is great too! Couldn’t rate this place highly enough!! I recommend Room 5 (the honeymoon suite) and Room 1 (by the pool). Thank you Trogon House!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We only stayed one night but Trogon is lovely. The rooms are clean and spacious, service is excellent, the food for dinner and breakfast was very good, the sun deck and pool area are just perfect for relaxing. We had also booked a message in advance which was great. Nothing to complain about. Stay here if you want peace and quiet.

Pros: The location in the forest. The staff were exceptionally helpful - provided rice and a large container to help us resurrect a camera that fell in the lagoon!
Cons: Nothing

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Adrienne and Bernie are the most friendly and service minded hosts we've ever met, thanks!! Nice, cosy rooms, good quality beds, very clean. Free access to indoor and ourdoor areas for socialising or relaxing. Pool is bigger than it appears on the pictures. Breakfast is fantastic! Located in a quite, prosperous area only a few minutes walking from a magnificent beach. Highly recommendable!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the self catering cottage which was lovely. We had breakfast in the B&B on two occasions and it is exceptional. Fresh fruit, a wide range of different teas, cooked breakfast or pastries. The hosts were extremely knowledgeable about the area and made some fantastic recommendations for things to do, places to visit and restaurants to eat at, even booking the table for us. They could not have been more helpful. The swimming pool is lovely - not large but very adequate and clean. There is secure parking on site. The B&B is situated an easy walk to the beach, and also an easy walk to the shops and restaurants, but there is also plenty of parking near the shops as well.
Cons: The weather! It was unusually cool and wet for the time of year. There was still plenty to do, but it means that we will have to come back again to do the things we couldnt do because of the wet weather.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room exceeded expectation, especially for the amount paid. The hosts were extremely accommodating, and the property is short walking distance from the beach which is amazing. I have never met such hospitable and caring hosts, and they even helped us with contacts for taxis and showed the spots of where to go. The breakfast was also delicious, also good with friendly company. The entire energy was comfortable, positive and friendly.

Pros: The accommodation was beautiful and very nicely decorated. Very clean. We spent two nights in a sea view room and two nights in the garden room. We would recommend the sea view as was a lot larger and stunning views. The owners were absolutely lovely, very friendly and chatty and booked us restaurants each night which was very helpful. We also had a lovely welcome from safari their cat and Diego their dog. The breakfast was also very good with daily specials and fresh fruit and yoghurt!
Cons: Fans were sufficient in the larger room. However, the smaller room did get quite hot and could have done with aircon
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were very friendly and nice and helped us with everything we needed. When we checked in they left a congrats card in our room for our wedding, that was really sweet of them. The place is really beautiful and it seems like they have given a thought to every little detail. The room was big, clean and comfortable and we had everything we needed and more. Breakfast was excellent. Thank you for everything!

Pros: This place is extraordinary. It has an amazing vibe, the decor is beautiful and the staff are all so friendly. They went above and beyond to help me with my dietary needs and when things weren’t possible they communicated this clearly.
