Pros: Staff was friendly and attentive. Breakfast was convenient, good, and a big reason we chose this hotel. Front desk had power adapters to loan (with a deposit) for us Yanks who didn't bring UK adapters. Wi-Fi worked well.
Cons: Toilet water ran until side of toilet was struck soundly with a fist. Room was a bit craped for the 4 people we had.

Pros: That there weren't many other guests!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Loved the way everything was so easy, relaxing and nothing was too much trouble....perfect hidey hole.
Cons: No-where to have a snack as the cafe was closed. A wee bit expensive on the wine and food front because it really isn't all that. Especially as it's only a hostel and with no cafe, it was a tad expensive.
5.0 Okay
Pros: cool gardens, 15 minutes from stonehenge by car
Cons: expensive breakfast, not really youth hostel (more a family quiet hostel), far from central city hubs, poor bathroom. no lockers in rooms, kinda down vibe around the place

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice friendly Australian guy on reception. Very clean hostel. Great en-suite shower.
Cons: The mattress was back- breaking & I couldn't sleep. This is a common reoccurrence at YHAs which I'm sick to death of. Please do something about it. The mattresses are horrible & ruin the stay. My back hurts like hell every time.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The red Lion is a very charming hotel, stuck in a time warp, thats what makes it so nice.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and excellent room. Got a free upgrade to a suite! Perfect weekend. Thanks!
Cons: Shower was a bit weak and temperature temperamental.
2.0 Mediocre
Cons: The rooms were not as advertised - much poorer condition and far from adequate. The walls have no sound proofing you can hear the occupants of the next room having sex and you can hear the TV playing clearly in the other room. Bathroom was old and dirty and the view from the room was of a dirty rooftop of the other side of the building. Overall a dreadful experience.
5.1 Okay
Pros: Location, courtyard nice except..., price not unreasonable.
Cons: Feel duped. Booked a "historical" room based on a picture of a charming room offered when booking. Got to room and it was a B minus take on modern. Asked at desk and was told all the rooms had been renovated, they were updating the website. Too late. False advertising. Internet horrible to the point of being useless, rooms very hot in summer. Kegs and chairs stacked/stored in the courtyard ruin the charm and ambiance. Shocked at the five star rating. Would hate to see an even four star property...
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Location is great, and the buildings amazing--all ivy and period charm. Hard to do better.
Cons: Bedrooms vary a bit. Some are great, others a little small.

Pros: Staff was friendly and helpful with late (after midnight) check-in. Convenient location & parking if one has a car.
Cons: Hot water for the shower was apparently running low the next morning, and wifi was poor. Twin beds were narrow.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was clean & comfortable. Would like to see some coasters made available to put hot drinks on, rather than having to put on the furniture. Food excellent. Staff couldn't have done any more. Plenty of parking available.
Cons: We had to have our 2nd nights evening meal and breakfast the following morning in our room. This was no fault of the hotel and due to the coronavirus, they were taking into account the isolation procedure for all guests. Well done to you all.

Cons: Bed was very hard Road noise
The Cathedral Hotel - Salisbury - Outdoor view

6.0 Good
Pros: Cosy hotel, friendly staff.
Cons: But street facing with single glazed windows plus very thin internal walls meant I could hear noise from inside and outside.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: All was good and would return as a contractor
Cons: The only concern was the parking.I had to park in street but it is a safe place and the van was fine
1.0 Poor
Pros: Location
Cons: Upon arrival and check-in, credit card was given and payment authorised as a pre-authorisation with a different hotel name on the receipt, ‘Old Sarum Hotels Ltd’ with ‘Old Mill Hotel’ appearing on my bank statement. Given the room key to find the bin was full, dirty cups on the side, and bed slept in. Receptionist smirked and said that someone else is staying in that room. Given an alternative room, with no power to the bathroom, so no light or extractor fan working. The ceiling of the bathroom was covered with mould. A day after my stay, my credit card was charged again but this time with ‘The Cathedral Hotel’ making the charge. I called the hotel to be told that the first payment will be paid back in due course. I’m still waiting! Taking payments as one business and then again as another is completely suspect, and shows a clear lack of cash flow. I shall take this to the authorities when I have looked at it further. Using customers money twice to balance the books is a completely fraudulent use of the payment terminals terms and conditions.
1.0 Poor
Cons: the bed was broken the shower was leaking and the toilet seat was broken and there was only one small towel its the worst stay i have had in a hotel
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location
Cons: The cleanliness
4.0 Okay
Pros: In the city centre and free parking in local carpark approx 0.5 miles from hotel.
Cons: Room had dust on furniture, no kettle in room, and when I asked for a kettle on Sunday morning the lady on reception could not assist because she was the only one there and did not know if there were spare kettles. All the lights failed in our room on Sunday morning, again no one could assist. When it came to breakfast, unfortunately they had run out of several items (before 9am) so it was half a breakfast.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The sausages and bacon were superb, lots of fresh orange juice and a good choice of breakfasts, good fresh ground coffee. vegetarian option also available and very good, fresh hot toast and served in a timely manner.
Cons: Couldnt add drinks to my room bill
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was the only good thing. Room cramped and not too clean, it is in need of decoration as paper on walls split and generally grubby. The lift was old and needed a good clean the door ledges were grinding as the runners were filthy.
Cons: The unclean state of the place and the bed springs of mattress sticking in me.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The location was fantastic and the down stairs bar was very smart / modern looking.
Cons: The room was tired the mattress of the bed sagged and was uncomfortable, the bedside light only worked on one side and there was no light working in the bathroom which had part of the door frame hanging off and mould on the ceiling, the chair for the desk was wobbly and needs replacing, the desk itself was repaired using black sticky tape. The television pixalated on certain channels and there was no wifi on the 2nd floor. I reported the issues to the duty manager but was not offered a different room and he said that he would look at the issues after I checked out on Thursday.

1.0 Poor
Pros: Near middle of town.
Cons: Old building in need of some considerable work. Stair carpet is a death trap. Furniture is old & shabby. Bathroom door kept catching & wouldn’t shut properly. Window frames were black & mouldy. Bathroom tap leaking. Bed was clean, but headboard was loose & banged against the wall. Ceiling in 1st floor corridor had fallen through due to a leak. Right opposite a nightclub so quite noisy.
7.0 Good

Pros: Location is good with a decent sized car park.

The Chapter House - Salisbury - Building
12
9.1 Excellent (530 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Salisbury, The Chapter House is a 3-minute drive from Salisbury Cathedral and 10 minutes from Old Sarum. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage.
7.0 Good
Pros: The room was period and tastefully decorated, but the bed was the comfiest I have ever slept in and I have not sleep so well in years.
Cons: Not Being told the Car Park token they give you is £6 and will be added to your bill. We were lead to believe it was free, when informed where to park. I stayed at a Premier Inn recently for a fraction of the cost of this hotel and car park was free.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant and staff
Cons: Little to dislike
7.0 Good
Pros: We enjoyed the character of our room- uneven floors, pleasant decor and view overlooking the window where Charles 2nd spoke to his people during the plague. The beds were extremely comfortable and heating in the room was most efficient.
Cons: Lack of parking onsite- when booking I always look for parking and there was no indication that we would have to park elsewhere and walk to the hotel. No indication that we had to pay for parking either.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is truly authentic (with indoor plumbing of course)!! It’s definitely a 500+ year old inn, and the character is amazing! Doors are low, floors are uneven, restaurant is fabulous! Great location, excellent staff. Beds comfy, room super clean and well appointed/modern for being a small room in this great old inn. This is a really special place and it’s exactly what we hoped for, experiencing the history of Wiltshire. Oh, and yes, we did have a mischievous ghost move a couple things around. Staff says it’s room 7 that’s got the white lady apparition. We were in room 3. BTW make reservations at the restaurant, best food in Salisbury!
Cons: It’s not that we didn’t like anything, it that it’s a 500 yr old inn and not like a modern hotel, so you have to know this place works differently. The check in process was fastest ever, but handled by restaurant staff (just like an old inn). You enter the restaurant, they asked our name, grabbed a key and took us up to the room. It felt a bit strange because the restaurant was so busy. The other thing was there was no staff around if the restaurant was closed (no 24 hr front desk). And no coffee or anything until 0830 (Kettle in the room but only instant coffee offered).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very close to the Cathedral
Cons: No hotel car park, although a special arrangement was available at a near by public car park which worked reasonably well.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing is good - have maybe once been a charming pub with rooms upstairs.
Cons: Receive your guests friendly with respect. Our booking though booking.com - the hotel only had 1 room booked even I had a mail with a confirmation for 2 rooms. Water was dripping from the ceiling when it rained. Due maintenance of the rooms and restaurant, make fresh food etc etc…..
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Relaxing and very central for shopping.
Cons: NA
4.4 Okay
Pros: If you happen to be traveling to salisbury and want to tour the cathedral, you can't get a better location as it is right across from the entrance to the grounds. The staff were very friendly and competent, the rooms were well maintained and the bathrooms were spacious and very clean. But this inn is very old, the rooms are very tight, and it just isn't that comfortable. We did not feel there was adequate value for our rate of GBP100/night (jul09).
3.2 Mediocre
Pros: the quantness of the place, floors and walls sloping in all direction, which is not suprising for a building over 400 years old.
Cons: Very poor value for money, no services, reception closed @ 1800pm, no hotel lounge as such, only a bar/resteraunt.
7.2 Good
Pros: Clean and tidy with the only non-euclidean staircase in existence.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and a great ability to fulfil all our needs! I booked the hotel initially for my wedding night! We ended up having our wedding reception there as well and was a fabulous day, food and service was great and couldnt ask for any better - Big thank you to the hotel!
Cons:
5.6 Okay
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant for both brekfast and dinner was excellent if a little expensive for the dinner.
Cons: No phones in the rooms. No room service. No shower caps in bathroom. It was a lovely hotel for a break but not for business use. I was hoping to recommend this hotel for business use but without the first 2 facilites above I am unable to do so.
4.8 Okay
Pros: Location. Staff made a real effort to be helpful.
Cons: No telephone in room. No explanation of use of 4 keys or how to lock room. Locked in the hotel when all staff went off for part of Sunday. The low service level does not reflect the high price. The operation seemed rahter amateur in terms of customer service.
7.2 Good
Pros: Altogether a very charming and unusual hotel. Very friendly staff and high attention to details.
Cons: The long walk from the Car Park - over 10mins walk with luggage. The cooked breakfast, although lovely, was a little small. And kept awake by talking on the first night until 2.30am and by another guest at 3am the next evening walking through and banging doors! Arghhhh!! But this did not put us off our stay, but think the price could be a little lower.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: location
Cons: The hotel was dirty, no air conditioning and expensive. The kettle was missing from the room and the curtains were held back with a safety pin which cut my finger!

Pros: Rustic property with large rooms, friendly and efficient staff and tasty food with fresh ingredients and piping hot. Recommend for a value for money over night ‘get away’
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the cardigan room which was luxurious and very roomy. If I was being picky i would of liked a mini fridge in the room, a comfier seat at the dressing table would of been nice ( maybe I should of sat on a cushion)The breakfast was excellent and we were made to feel welcome. We attended a friends party in the village of Shrewton and was an excellent base. Would definitely stay again

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I’d like to send a great review. But am annoyed at all the questions that are hardly relevant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I like things that are as they are described and the pictures are accurate. Easy access to A303, plenty of room to park, rooms clean and well equipped. Really liked the extra large bath towels, a power shower that works and is hot, and comfy pillows and quilts rarely found in a hotel of this price. The breakfast is first rate and again much better than hotels will charge double. Ate there every night as the food was good, you could sit in the cosy bar with TV as well as in the restaurant and when you are away for a week like I was these comforts make all the decision. I will definitely use again. What makes this hotel a real gem is it family owned and managed and all the staff know how to make you feel at home and relaxed without asking stupid questions every five minutes when after a hard days work you just want relax and enjoy your tea and a pint. Thank you every one I wish all my hotel accommodation was as good as yours

Pros: Very comfortable apartment, lovely decor and comfy beds. The staff were friendly and helpful. My gluten free diet was accommodated very well at breakfast with cereal options and cooked breakfast, they even had a separate toaster for gluten free bread. It was also possible to check in early which was much appreciated. I would definitely recommend the Cricket Field house. Thank you!

Pros: Lovely building in a great location. Friendly but not familiar staff. Nice bed linen and a good meaty but not greasy breakfast.
Cons: The air con was set at 23C. That was too warm for us so we turned it down.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff always willing to help. Excellent home cooked food. Doesn't feel like a pub with rooms - more of a country house style.
Cons: Only twin room available so bed not as comfortable as the large doubles. No lift.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was lovely and was served quickly . The hotel is opposite Wilton house which was very convenient. The staff were friendly and our hotel room was very clean and comfortable.
Cons: No lift in hotel, that did cause me a problem as I have a chronic lung condition. They changed my room from 2nd floor to 1st floor and then carried my case up for me. That solved the problem, so they did do the best they could for me. Thank you. I didn’t like it because it meant that I had to explain my condition before any action was taken. If there was a lift it would not have been a problem.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting, wonderful old building. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely and warm, and heating was on all the time (but could be turned down in the room if not wanted or needed), rare to have somewhere that isn’t afraid to ramp up the thermostat!! As someone who feels the cold I thought this was excellent!! Everywhere seemed clean and tidy. Free upgrade to an executive room, which was spacious and good for a longer stay. Rooms in the old part were smaller (my son had one of these so was able to check it out!), but fantastic for their character.
Cons: It’s quite a long walk to the town centre. We thought the lovely location in an old quiet part of town more than made up for having to walk a mile for dinner, but might bother those who prefer to be central. The restaurant was limited for food choice, especially veggie and vegan, of which there was none when we asked if they could accommodate. Beds weren’t uncomfortable, but old style mattresses I should think. Ours was very bouncy and dipped to one side.

Pros: This hotel does not do breakfast though as new building is currently taking place, a breakfast room will be provided in future. Meanwhile, there are plenty of places near by that provide meals. Pros: Nice building, great location. Comfort OK, if more 3-star than 4-star.
Cons: Disco with loud music until midnight. Impossible to sleep as a result until it stopped. This does not always happen--I have stayed here before--but once is more than enough.
