I thought I could walk 20 mins from Warrington Bank Quay station. 15 mins into my walk I was directed by Google Maps onto an unlit footpath alongside the Mersey, through a pitch black tunnel under a disused railway bridge. It was almost 11pm and I really did not fancy this even though the hotel appeared to be just the other side according to the map. Getting there another way led me right back to Bank Quay station. The alternative footpath from there also did not look viable so I gave up and took a taxi. I don't think this is a satmav problem... the site is awkward to walk to and I strongly recommend not even trying at night.
There are no services on site apart from a pub next door which was closed by the time I arrived, nor is it really realistic to walk anywhere to find local services at night, so for example if you wanted a quick drink after a long journey, you may be out of luck. In this sense the Premier Inn Warrington Centre is not in the centre of Warrington.
This site is also poorly served by taxi services. Even though I prebooked my taxi to avoid the difficulties that a sign in the reception warned of, my taxi was 20 minutes late, which meant I was 15 minutes late for my meeting.
I am a Premier Inn fan and this is not a bad hotel, however the location is poor and I would have hoped that the staff would be totally on top of the taxi issue and would have been warning more aggressively and chasing the taxi company without me having to ask several times.
At 71 pounds, I feel the price was too high.
