The size of the room. Also it was clean and good breakfast.
We were looking for the hotel for 10-15 min, because the name on the entrance differ from the name in booking. But Infront of the main door you can see the name as it is in booking, but it's a bit challenging)
The room itself was very nice and spacious, and the property was close to the Muslim Quarter, many restaurants, and the bell tower. I liked the restaurant connected to the hotel as well— delicious and affordable.
Where do I begin? Our taxi driver had a hard time of finding the hotel because I guess they’re in the process of renaming or something because all their signs call it the Waystar hotel instead. When we first arrived at 5pm to check-in (surrounded by tons and tons of Caucasian foreigners), the front desk people, despite working at a hotel with the word “international” in its name, couldn’t speak a lick of English. I don’t mean they couldn’t converse. I mean they didn’t know basic words key to their jobs like room key, laundry, and toilet paper. On the bright side, they did try and communicate with us using google translate rather than completely ignore us like our hotel did in Beijing. However, one of the first things they tried to communicate with us was “We Change you to standard room, ok?” We are 3 grown adults who booked a 3 bedroom family room like 5 months prior. I replied in google translate, “We want 3 beds.” They shuffled around for a while and made phone calls before telling us to wait in the lobby because they were currently cleaning our room. Reminder, it’s 5pm and they’re JUST NOW cleaning our room. In total, we had to wait about 30 minutes from it all to finally get to our room. The room itself is pretty nice, but there’s no where to hang towels and we were only given half a roll of toilet paper with no replacements in our bathroom. When we ran out, we combined it with our trip to the front desk to get laundry detergent to use their laundry machines. They told us a bellboy would bring up both in 5 mins to our room. We wait 30, nothing. We go back down and try again. Same response, same result. By that time, it was too late to do laundry (as there’s no dryer so you have to hang your clothes to dry and the laundry room closes at 10pm). So we asked the next morning before our tour. After we returned 8 hours later, the toilet paper was in the room, but not the precious laundry detergent.
Clean room, helpfull staff
Staffel speaks very little English.
Bus stop and subway station very close to the hotel. Many shops and cafes along the main street around the corner. The muslim district is not far away - a good opportunity to taste local food.
The hotel does not suit the four stars category. Everything in the room is very old and not clean, especially the carpet. The window obviously has been NEVER cleaned. The sewage water in the shower accumulated at one side. The most unacceptable was the condition of the the restaurant: dirty old carpet-covered floor, tables with table clothes washed probably several weeks ago last time, distastful and cold tea and coffee. The meal variaty is poor for the annouced category of the hotel, and all the meals are from the chinese cuisine: it means, in this sense the hotel is NOT an international one.
Location is great, metro station right at the corner, and walking distance from Zhonglou. Practical and comfortable room arrangement.
There is no telephone at the reception, they cannot make a call to inquire for you. Staff was not too bright. The hotel is a bit old, that would be no problem as long as it is well maintained, but we had two rooms and they were dirty. The shower gel was watered. The ventilation system was bad, I could smell it if people were smoking in other rooms. Our rooms were reeking of previous smoking too.
