Lake Louise is a mountain ski resort in the middle of Banff National Park in Canada. Snowy mountain peaks and forests surround the Lake Louise hamlet which is a few miles to the west of an emerald glacial lake. With magnificent mountain scenery it is one of Canada's most visited ski resorts.
The nearest airport to land at for Lake Louise holidays is the Calgary International Airport which is about 120 miles off Lake Louise. Shuttles from the airport drop visitors off at Banff and Lake Louise hotels. There is no direct rail link to Lake Louise, but the Rocky Mountaineer train from Calgary stops at Banff. The area is several hours behind GMT. Lake Louise has a subarctic climate with regular snowfall during the winter and spring. Winter is probably the best time for Lake Louise holidays, but the resort also has pleasant mild summers; the most suitable season for lake water sports such as canoeing and kayaking.
The Lake Louise Mountain has spectacular scenery for skiing. It is one of North America's largest ski destinations with more than 4,200 skiable areas. Cross-country ski trails are also abundant. During the winter huge ice castles are sculptured on the frozen lake which is open for ice skating. When the summer comes, the resort runs gondola chairlifts up to the dazzling mountain peaks which provide spectacular panoramic views. In addition, travellers can hire canoes and explore the nearby Lake Louise.
The Banff Park Museum includes unique displays of wildlife within a rustic log cabin. The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies has ongoing exhibits exploring the history of Banff National Park. Golfers should visit the famous Banff Springs Golf Course which runs along the Bow River. Also make a trip to the The Banff Centre outdoor amphitheatre which showcases both opera and theatre performances.
