Tavira is city in the Algarve region of Portugal within the eastern Algarve on the south coast of Portugal. Tavira is a city that is renowned for its great architecture and the famous Gilão River which flows through the city.

Those visiting Tavira should land at the nearest airport in Faro about thirty kilometres away. The town can also be reached by train from Faro. The Algarve has a Mediterranean climate with summers that begin in June and last until September. Visit Tavira Island

Just to the south of Tavira is Tavira Island which can be reached by boat departing from Quatro Águas in the city, and features some of the best beaches in the Algave region. Tavira Island is a Blue Flag beach that boasts eleven kilometres of pristine sand and includes a camping park. The island is also a part of the Ria Formosa coastal lagoon and has a variety of bird species such as flamingos.

The city has some interesting historic sites to visit during Tavira holidays. What is left of the Castelo, such as its restored octagonal tower, provide fine views of Tavira. Among the other notable architecture in Tavira is the Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo Gothic church. The Torre da Tavira was formerly a hundred metre tall water tower in Tavira which now houses a camera obscura which offers a 360 degree panoramic view of the area. There are also a few notable golf courses in and around Tavira such as Benamor Golf Course, Quinta de Cima and Quinta Da Ria Golf Course.
