Located in the Mountain Time Zone (GMT-7), agreeable temperatures make spring and autumn popular times to travel, whilst those who enjoy hot weather may prefer to travel in the summer months. The high temperatures also provoke the occasional breathtaking thunderstorm. Winter temperatures are cooler, but excellent nearby ski resorts and plenty of Christmas festivities keep the area lively. Whilst Santa Fe does have its own airport, many travellers arrive at the busier Albuquerque International Sunport airport and make the scenic 60 minute journey by car.

Once in Santa Fe, visitors will find the city is better explored on foot, though a car is useful to reach surrounding areas. In general Santa Fe holidays are a traveller's delight, with many cultural sites and museums just waiting to be explored. September is best time for festivals, with the multi-day Fiesta de Santa Fe celebrations and The Wine and Chile Fiesta; a tasty festival featuring winemakers and spicy homemade food. On warm summer evenings head to the Santa Fe Plaza, the lively centre of town and excellent place to soak up the local atmosphere.
