Located in the state of Texas, San Antonio has world class art galleries, exciting amusement parks and a bustling downtown area. Home to many great restaurants, attractions and fun for all the family, San Antonio holidays promise an unforgettable Texan getaway in this diverse and beautiful city.
San Antonio is serviced by San Antonio International Airport. It is only a short trip from the airport to the downtown area via taxi or public bus service. Alternatively, visitors may want to hire a car whilst in Texas, as this is a great way to get around the city and surrounding area at their own leisure. Summers can be hot and humid, so it might be best to visit in late spring to make the most of the warm weather without such levels of humidity. The timezone is GMT-7.
One of San Antonio's most famous landmarks is The Alamo. Considered as the Shrine of Texas Liberty, the Alamo is a former mission, built on the site of the Battle of the Alamo from 1836. At the San Antonio Missions National Park visitors can learn about the history of this fascinating city. With nature areas and important cultural sites, this large park contains four well preserved Spanish frontier missions, part of the southwest area originally colonised by Spain.
Head to San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium, home to over 3,500 animals and a great day out for all the family. The River Walk area is a great place to explore both in the day and night. Take a guided barge tour in the day, and enjoy the many bars and restaurants in the evening. SeaWorld is a theme park for all the family. Home to Shamu, the famous killer whale, the park is also home to all kinds of marine life, and includes sharks, penguins and dolphins.
