Texas is a southern U.S. state that features diverse landscapes. Bordering New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mexico to the south, in Texas visitors can visit national parks, beach resorts and fascinating U.S. heritage sites and museums during their Texas holidays.
Texas visitors can arrive in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio or the Amarillo airport. Cruise ships stop at harbours in Galveston and Houston. As Texas is a larger U.S. state visitors should choose an airport that is at least fairly close to their final destination. The climate of Texas varies, but eastern Texas is subtropical. In general, spring and fall are the best time to experience mild temperatures and pleasant weather, although some areas are subject to spring storms.
South Padre Island is a destination on the coast of Texas. South Padre is at the tropical tip of Texas bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and Laguna Madre Bay. There visitors can visit the Isla Resort and Palms Resort. At South Padre Island there is also the innovative Schlitterbahn Beach waterpark. The Big Bend National Park along the Rio Grande includes the largest area of Chihuahuan Desert topography in the United States. As the park is larger than Rhode Island it has thousands of species of plants.
Visitors to Texas' capital city will discover a wealth of museums. The Houston Space Centre is visitors' gateway to the NASA Johnson Space Centre, which tells the story of NASA space flight. In the Houston Museum District there are a variety of galleries and museums, such as the Contemporary Arts Museum, Buffalo Soldiers National Museum and Museum of Fine Art. A notable Texas heritage site to visit in Houston is the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, which consists of the Battleship Texas, San Jacinto Battleground and Monument.
