Unexpected €30 charge after returning the car I booked the car through Kayak and prepaid for pickup and return at Marseille Airport. After I returned it, Avis deducted €30 from my deposit, calling it an “airport tax.” The charge was not disclosed on the booking page or explained when we picked up the car. Both the pickup and return locations were the airport from the start, so there was no change to our booking that could explain an additional airport charge. I only discovered it after the money was taken from my deposit. Avis should disclose all mandatory charges before customers pay, not deduct them after the rental is over.Reviewed 23 Sept 2026

The rep didn’t have the car ready even though we set it for a specific time. He then said to come at a certain time so he can get the car ready. After we picked it up, the car was dirty. The windows on the inside had a film on it as if it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. There was still trash in between the seats and in the back. The doors were not clean, you could see spots of dirty fingers on the door panel. Car was not vacuumed either.Reviewed 23 Sept 2026

When we picked up the car it was dirty, we had to wash windows and vacuum. We had to put 1 1/2 quarts of oil into it and put in window washing fluid. The cameras on the vehicle do not work well - we encountered a bad rainstorm, and the vehicle could not keep the lane distances while on cruise control. I feel I paid ALOT of money for a mediocre experience (I was traveling to my MIL's funeral) so all in all NOT happy with the amount charged ($755.07) will not be booking here again. I called ahead to see if I could get a partial refund if I brought it back a day early. They were unable to tell me whether or not they could. I took a chance and brought it back early and the desk person was able to give me a refund. Otherwise, I would have just kept it for the extra day. This is something that needs to be spelled out clearly for all renters as it would have saved me some frustration. However, I was thankful that I got a credit, and the desk personnel both at pick up and drop off were professional and friendly and the car itself was very satisfactory.Reviewed 21 Sept 2026

The BEST was the turn-in experience with Jackson and Israel. They're truly customer-oriented and want to help people get on their way after turning in their cars - OUTSTANDING customer service! Not so great was that, when the vehicle sat in the sun/warmed up, there was a body odor smell in the upholstery. It was okay early mornings from the garage but always came out when parked in a carpark or driving in the sun. Needs shampooing or something.Reviewed 19 Sept 2026
