The Bagh - Bharatpur - Bedroom
1
8.6 Excellent (768 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Bagh in Bharatpur, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Keoladeo National Park and Salim Ali Museum. Featured amenities include a business center, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The property is massive and the greenery is addictive. The rooms are also very spacious. Food was also very good, they grow their own organic stuff within the property.
Cons: There are a few banquet halls nearby and during the wedding season there is always music playing throughout the day and night. It’s 3km away from the bird sanctuary.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel room and grounds. Fantastic restaurant food, both a la carte and buffet, with relaxed atmosphere (waiters friendly and attentive but not constantly interrupting). Front desk staff very helpful with request for packed lunches and booking taxis, and allowed us to keep the same room over two separate bookings, which saved us hassle with storing luggage in between.
Cons: I would normally be happy to give hotel staff a decent tip for room service etc, because they have taken time to help and such a system is the norm in India. However, one member of The Bagh housekeeping staff made a point of visiting our room multiple times in an evening, despite being specifically told more than once that further housekeeping was not wanted that day - and he then made it very clear that he expected an increased tip as a result of these spurious extra visits (despite them being a nuisance). This felt awkward and rude rather than helpful. This behaviour was a noticeable exception as the other staff were lovely and genuinely helpful. Changing money (US dollars cash to rupees cash) was difficult in the hotel (effectively impossible to change as much as we needed for our stay)- despite us needing rupees in order to give tips to hotel staff and pay for taxis booked by the hotel (this payment had to be in cash, not using a card). This caused us some panic until we found an independent money changing office on New Civil Lines Road, north of Saaras Chowk (the big road junction on the way to the bird park).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Firstly we are not standard guests. We weren’t there to see birds or to escape the city. We stayed overnight to break the journey to Agra. I loved the outdoors. The peacocks wandering. The room was big, it was great to have a bath. Dinner was delicious. My mum was happy to have a western option of pasta. My Indian with organic vegetables grown on-site was really great.
Cons: My shower overflowed. Which made the floor wet. However I informed and they will fix. We tried the day spa. We liked, not loved this service.
6.0 Good
Pros: The garden and the number of animals in it
Cons: Attention to the details can be improved, but overall is nice old property
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet calm, an oasis. Great dining room and characterful rooms. Good service in the restaurant.
Cons: Not much possibly a little far out if town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was a humble and very grounded person who organised all the things that we wishes for including a wonderful anniversary dinner for my parents, giving us a tour around their gigantic property (40 acres to be precise) and spotting a resting python, exotic birds and telling us about the flora there. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this property to anyone considering to stay in Bharatpur. If you do choose The Bagh, make sure to say Hi to Vishnu Ji (the owner) and rest of the conversation will just follow.
Cons: Nothing really. Everything was great

7.9 Good
Cons: A good place with good service and very convenient for visitors to the bird sanctuary
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous facilities and helpful staff.
Cons: Expensive beer!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very helpful and courteous
Cons: Since the hotel gets a lot of international tourists and in India too gluten allergy is being detected, they should have some gluten-free options on the menu, particularly for breakfast. South Indian options like Idli, dosa and/or vada could be a good beginning
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was delicious! The room was huge and comfortable and the location perfect for going into the beautiful Keoladeo National Park. The staff were so helpful and Tirath communicated very well with us before our stay, booking us a guide for the park and transport to Sariska when we left.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Place, friendly staff, great staff.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, ambience and simplicity.
Cons: Lack of aesthetic input in the property Very ordinary setting.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice place, with good swimming pool . Comfortable and clean rooms. Good onsite restaurant. We checked quite a few places before check in but this is only resort with nice ooen greens in Bharatpur. Other few just across the road are mere hotels.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality was at at its best. All the staff was courteous and ever willing to help. I'd like to mention Amar Singh in the dining area. The facilities are good and the staff provides everything you ask for. The property, though not very big, is beautiful and tastefully done.
Cons: The rooms we were offered at first were a little dingy, so we had to look for other rooms. Those were good but not as per our booking so we had to put an extra cot. Then there was monkey problem. They seemed to like our corridor and on one occasion entered our room which was frankly terrifying.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: We were pleasantly surprised to find such a peaceful heaven in the country. Staff took perfect care of us and we stayed longer than planned enjoying the beautiful place, the great food and some quiet after visiting Delhi and Agra. We also enjoyed visiting the friendly village.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The property is off the beaten track, but truly beautiful. We were lucky to have a suite with a jacuzzi, which was incredibly spacious, comfortable and offered privacy The staff was very courteous and all requests were immediately taken care of.
7.0 Good
Pros: Interesting place (old Bhutto family residence). Near Bharatpur bird sanctuary which is a big draw card.
Cons: Village wasn’t that enticing. It was a cold, foggy time but the place needs a bit of an uplift. Service is great but lacks engagement (English is not great). Good is average. Location would be ok if it was top place but we left after 2 nights and went to Agra. Couple of nights max, having a driver would be good (cost us same to drive to Agra as it did from Jaipur to Delhi). Maybe better in the summer months.
6.7 Good
Pros: The building and grounds were really beautiful and well taken care of. The pool was so refreshing during the heat of the day, and the food in the restaurant was good. There are lots of parrots and peacocks that visit the property and there were very few guests, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. I would definitely recommend it for one night if you're traveling between Jaipur and Agra.
Cons: This place is so close to being great, but so awkward in many ways. The first day there were two tour groups that came to the property for lunch, but it totally ruined the atmosphere of the place. The restaurant in general was lacking in atmosphere, high ceilings, bright lights, stone walls, and no music. I also felt the restaurant was really expensive, and they know you don't have any other options. After taxes (40%) three cans of soda cost 462 rupees, the most expensive we saw anywhere in India. They were also charging 110 plus tax for bottles of water that cost 20 rupees in a shop and 40 or maybe 60 at most in any other hotel. It's still cheaper than what we pay back home, but it dampened the experience to know they were squeezing pennies out of you. We also spend most of the day by the pool and asked numerous times to turn on the jets/filter as there were lots of bugs and dust on the surface (lots of bees which we got stung by) but after 20 minutes of running the filtration system they turned it back off again. If you have a guest sitting by the pool and using it, just leave the pool on, how much can it cost? The staff were also just clueless. We had to ask for towels and drinks etc. We were the only people there and saw at least a dozen staff. Someone should give towels to people who sit by the pool, and come out periodically to offer drinks. I don't expect it everywhere I go but in a 'resort' I think I can expect better service. The property is also set in the middle of a village, so you hear kids shouting and tractors driving right past as you're trying to have a quiet day by the pool. We walked around the village one evening and were aggressively approached by swarms of young kids asking us for candy, and were grabbing our arms and hitting us as we walked. In general it just wasn't a very welcoming place.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The curry was really nice but the best was the staff. They were extremely helpful and readily available and courteous.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really beautiful Haveli, very peaceful and really nice, clean spacious room.
Cons: Monkeys do roam around the 2nd floor
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful surprise as it is hard to suspect this beautiful hotel from the outside. Very peaceful and quiet, dinner was good and personnel was eager to help us in every way possible.

5.8 Okay
Pros: The ambience and historic nature of the property. Staff were very attentive and the family owners friendly, inviting me to watch the Divali celebrations with them.
Cons: The bathroom floor flooded badly after my (hot) shower but I was given a small discount for this inconvenience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Three brilliant nights in a truly authentic and historic building. Excellent food. Marvellous staff and management. Great musical entertainment. We shall return.
Cons: No complaints. We weren’t looking for the synthetic taste of international hotels.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing we checked out early! And no offer of a refund.
Cons: We booked the Kings suite with a balcony view. .the balcony was more a ledge not big for a chair , the view brick rubbish and old chairs . The TV did not work ( given some story monkeys eat the line ) the shower did not work properly and was a trickle in a bucket. The place was dead no music and the Internet only worked in the courtyard. The food was OK but waited 45 min for a soup all our food came bit at a time so we never eat together and took 2.5 hours to get 2 course meal. Was booked in for two nights and left after the first night not even bothering to have breakfast. The is not a shabby chic palace it's a dump and we felt misleading! The staff of 6 were friendly but totally out of there depth trying to run a hotel. Now I know why they insist on payment up front and as we checked out the next day early there was no offer of a refund.
6.3 Good
Pros: 1. Historic setting and truly authentic old rustic charm 2. Delicious food 3. Good natured and friendly host (Saurabh)
Cons: 1. Poorly lit, the place felt gloomy especially at night 2. Poor accommodation facilities (electric kettle not working, broken geyser, tv not working, No natural lighting in room, missing toiletries ) 3. Exuberantly expensive food 4. Untrained staff , huge delays in service
7.1 Good
Pros: As the property is still being restored it was very interesting to wander around and see the original state vs the finished parts. The room was spacious. This also meant it felt less like a hotel and more like an actual home. Sitting in the courtyard in the evening for dinner was wonderful. Food, although a bit expensive, was very good and service was friendly.
Cons: The hotel was difficult to find, the locals did not know it. Ask for the museum and it is close by. Had a slight problem when asking for a small packed breakfast due to early departure, this did get sorted quickly and the breakfast was very nice.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was served in the verrandah which was nice
Cons: The place is hugely overpriced for what they are offering. Location is not good at all. View from the room is that of a junkyard and near by houses, you can't even keep your curtains open as other people can peep into your room. Property shares a wall with a house, so when you enter you can see their clothes drying, quite a downer. We were asked to pay up the balance upfront at check-in, later we understood that was to ensure we don't walk out after seeing what we were being offered. Basic amenities such as coffee maker, hair dryer, mineral water bottles etc were lacking. You expect these if you are staying in the king suite. The lights of the room kept flickering the whole time. At night place looked a bit spooky due to lack of lighting in the top part of the haveli (still being restored I think). Overall a disappointing stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The building is incredible - renovation over the ground and first floors and a ruin above. It was great exploring. So special. The staff were delightful - two young men who seemed to take care of everything - reception, waiting, room service, the restaurant. Couldn't have done more to make us comfortable. The food was the freshest and the best we tasted all week.
Cons: It was a bit Faulty Towers but we loved it! The welcome was sweet with garlands and smiles though no-one really seemed to be expecting us or know which room to send us to. There must have been a choice as the place was practically empty that day.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: First of all, value for money. I had to pay an extra for my 10 years old daughter (as it was impossible to book for 1 adult and 2 children, then I had booked for 1 adult and 1 child). Even if I paid 3,000 INR extra for her (which is huge) they even did not give an extra bed, no extra towel, nothing. The last clients before us were 15 days before. You feel like in an haunted castle. No facilities, no pool, no Wifi, no blinds, just thin curtains, sheets not clean, welcome drink undrinkable. Even if we were only three in the whole palace, all the tables were set for breakfast since I do not know when. Of course all the plates had one millimeter dust in them. I ordered one coffee and it took 30 minutes to get a little teapot with hot water. As Nescafe sachets were already on the table... The staff does not speak english, except to say: you have to pay now. Yes you do not pay while checking out you pay as you arrive and you never get any invoice. Avoid this place, you will just finance the dream of the owner to rehabilitate his family palace at your expense.
