Overview Reviews
The Best Western Plus Buxton Lee Wood Hotel is one of the most perfectly positioned hotels in Buxton, right in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Three quarters of Buxton are surrounded by the Peaks, so you’ll be well in range of many short and cheerful strolls, or strenuous walks for the experienced hiker. Though the hotel is the perfect base for a walking holiday, it’s an equally appealing spot for those wishing to explore the historic attractions of Buxton Spa itself. Buxton Opera House is a particularly attractive sight to put on the to-do list. It was built by Matcham in 1903 and is a worthy focal point for a Buxton-based theatre break. The Pavilion gardens are also close by - only an 8-minute walk from the hotel - and make for the most idyllic setting on a sunny afternoon. As a guest at the family-run Best Western Plus Buxton Lee Wood Hotel, you'll be within touching distance of the Derbyshire Dales, a stone’s throw from Castleton and its fabulous caves, and even closer to the award-winning Elements restaurant – found within the hotel itself! If you’re feeling famished, a three course a la carte feast will be waiting for you, or you can enjoy something a little lighter in the Elements Bar and Lounge. A full range of beauty treatments and a state of the art fitness suite will also be available to you, to leave you looking and feeling your very best. We really can guarantee maximum relaxation in this Best Western hotel near the Peak District.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was spot on to get to everywhere, obviously it was very hilly whatever way you went but that's Buxton. The breakfast was excellent.
Cons: The owner wasn't very welcoming at all but his staff were lovely and friendly.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a room on the lake - a beautiful view. The breakfast was very good. The hotel was at capacity with every table full. Nevertheless, Sharon was very organised , professional and friendly whilst taking everyone’s orders and delivering the breakfasts. We felt like valued customers.

Cons: Nothing really.
3.0 Mediocre

Old Hall Hotel - Buxton - Building
5
8.6 Excellent (1,224 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you a stay at Old Hall Hotel in Buxton, you'll be next to a golf course, just steps from Buxton Opera House and St Ann's Well. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
7.0 Good
Pros: We had a room next to the lift, thankfully, in a quiet part of the hotel. The staff were attentive and polite. The food (both at dinner and breakfast) was excellent. The antique furniture (everywhere, but also in the room) was a delight
Cons: I could not get hot water out of the otherwise excellent shower in the morning. My initial impression was that the carpets (especially in the public areas) need attention. this let down the otherwise fascinating and delightful place. We were sad to see indifferent paintings on the wine bar wall - they have been there for about 4 years, as far as we know, and are neither "good Art" nor relate to the location or indeed the fabulous local scenery. The hotel is missing a commercial trick by not reproducing some of the fascinating images on the walls relating to the history of this important hotel, or the spectacular local scenery or architecture
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Full or character
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Top breakfast

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable
Cons: It was all great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent, particularly the evening dinner - just the right amount and delicious. The location for us was fantastic with nice scenery and lots of walking for which sandwiches and water was provided.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly. Lovely comfortable bed. Complementary welcome drinks in and fresh milk in bedroom.
7.0 Good
Pros: The grounds are very beautiful. Great location to go hiking in the peaks. We had the Indulgence Menu in the restaurant and the service and food was excellent.
Cons: Sadly, we didn't know that we booked on "Burns night" weekend, which meant that a giant group of crazy drunk people was also in the restaurant and staying at the hotel. We couldn't have a proper conversation and because there is very little sound insulation, we got woken up multiple times in the middle of the night by drunks returning to their room. It was like living with teenagers all over again. Apparently this is a yearly thing, and this group books every year, in which case, the hotel should warn people about in advance. I didn't expect to pay to be woken up all night long. I would stay again if this group wasn't there and the sounds insulation was better.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Evening meal was fantastic and exceptional value for money - £29 per person for a superb 3 course meal
Cons: Our room was a little on the small side in the Lodge
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location for walkers in the lower Peak DIstrict. We've stayed at other hotels in the area, but this was the only one we felt we had to visit again - and it had got even better. The food was great, the staff were super friendly, service was fast and efficient, rooms were cosy and comfortable, complementary packed lunches were top notch and there was even a complementary welcome drink waiting for us in the in-room fridge. Best of all was the price. This lovely country house hotel is fantastic value for money
Cons: I asked my wife is she could think of anything that could have made our stay even better, but the only thing she could think of (other then the weather) was maybe they could have some more exciting choices of ice cream on the dessert menu - but we're really going out of our way to nit-pick
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All fantastic place and location if you what peace and quiet then this is the place lovley
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The location and surroundings. Staff where freindly. Price was amazing.
Cons: It got a bit crazy with unruley kids at one point in the lounge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, staff very kind, a lot of possibility
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location loved the water refilling station, and the radiators to dry clothes on, was nice and warm everywhere inside, cooking and dining area were always clean, really appreciated a TV in the dining room, beds were comfy and lockers in the room so very happy about that, hot showers whenever, drying room was very warm, plenty of storage space for all your stuff and sinks nd mirrors in the rooms. Bathrooms close by but don't keep you up at night, duvets really nice too. Plates, cutlery, pots and pans, dishes and trays for the oven are supplied which is a bonus
Cons: Lack of sturdy space to park a motorbike, would have been nice but cans work the same so not a problem just a little difficult. Don't believe there was a washing machine but could be wrong. Also no salt or oil or butter to cook with which made things a little bland as thought they would be supplied as who gets through a whole one in a stay. Could do with some more appetising veggie options for the menu as well, they had veggie stuff but wasn't overly excited by any of it. Self catering anyway so not a big problem. Couldn't find any scissors. Half the hobs were electric but the pans didn't seem to work on them and the hob just seemed to burn the Base of the pan instead. Couldn't find any pans with suitable bases to use that hob set either. Bit odd. At least leave a note to say you can't use them so you don't get burnt pans. Bring your own foil sandwich bags etc
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendly and informative.Evening meal hearty and delicious.
Cons: Not applicable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and friendly staff. Quiet peaceful sleep after busy day.

Pros: the town beautiful place
Cons: the property booked with booking.com wen we arrived at the hotel we were told that they only take payment at arrivals wen we showed the owner that we already paid through booking.com the response was that we would need to pay again if she didn't manage to access the funds the room was dirty breakfast wasnt that great and at checkout we had to leave through the fire exit and put the room keys through the front door us no one was there at the promises

4.0 Okay
Pros: staff were amazing and soo friendly. Breakfast was the best!! location was good for what we had planned and loads of places to park. seperate enterance if you didnt want to walk through the pub.
Cons: My room was freezing as there was no heating on at night or in morning. bathroom wasnt very clean with plug hole was full of thick dark hairs and cobwebs above shower. The batheoom door is opposite the bed but has glass panels with a net curtain, so when bathroom light on there is NO PRIVACY and my son could see me using the toilet, in the shower and drying, as i could also with him. Even if it was my partner i would hate this!!! A new bed is needed as it squeeks at every movement.
7.0 Good
Pros: I thought the location was good for the circular walk down gorgeous Millers Dale and ok for our drive to Castleton. The room and en suite facilities were clean. Linen clean. Plenty of wardrobe space and drawers.
Cons: The pub was quite empty and soulless for eating but it was out of season. Breakfast depended on who was cooking, much better on the second day. The room was very cold on arrival and took some time to heat up. Room was a little dated and cramped. The bed construction had a wooden end to it and so was difficult to stretch out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Marie is amazing. Couldn't do enough for us. Can't believe she's only been running the pub 6 months. Seemed like she had been there years. The steak was spectacular. The room was clean, warm and very quiet and the breakfast included was exceptional.
Cons: The only snag was the lack of car parking but we found a space further down the road

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, welcoming. Great position
7.1 Good
Pros: Typical local Green King Pub with rooms for the night. Decorated in style early 2000s and furniture etc could do with an update for comfort. Pub itself seems a bit with the locals & the food was typical pub grub with suited us on the first night.
Cons: Needs investment needs a lick of paint, modernising, beds not comfy at all, TVs, creaky floorboards.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Lovely staff, nice pub, nice rooms.
Cons: Basically perfect except the knocking noise in the bedroom. Ended up getting zero sleep. It's tough because they said there was nothing they could do so I feel some sympathy but all we needed was sleep and we didn't get any. Not sure what else to say.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were really friendly and welcoming. They didn’t mind us having our puppy with us in the room. Nice village with great walks on the doorstep. Also not too far from places such as Stanage Edge and Chatsworth.

Pros: Everything was spotlessly clean, staff were welcoming and friendly. We also booked lunch in the George for 13 people and the service was impeccable - thank you!
Cons: Creaking floorboards!
