The price qouted to us online was in Canadian dollars but at the counter it was in American dollars and is a lot more once converted into Canadian dollars..so my rental went from 281 canadian to 640 Canadian for 1 day

At check in felt very pressured to upgrade everything. Was given incorrect information about the insurance to convince me to purchase. Found the pressured sales at check in uncomfortable. The fob didn’t work very well- the battery must have been low and so it was annoying to lock, unlock and start the car. Often took multiple attempts which was inconvenient. There was no wait to pick up the car which was fantastic. The return of the car was very smooth.

Understaffed, 40 minutes to get to counter/agent, and once there, very rude, aggressive and not welcome attempts to upselll everything from unneeded insurance to vehicle type and when not accepted, the agent became surely and clearly 'punished' me with a very small car after I rented a midsize. I will never rent again with Avis.

Budget and Avis (same company) rented the same car out of the same spot to two different people. I was the one that had to go all the way back to the airport terminal to get it sorted out. They got me a different car, which only had 3/4 tank of gas when I started it. All these problems were resolved by a few friendly customer service personnel, but all of this was avoidable with some conscientious workers and appropriately integrated systems.

Gave me a car that immediately gave a notice of urgent need for an oil change, which is already a big inconvenience. However, when I stopped by the closest Budget location, they said I didn’t need to change vehicles because the oil change wasn’t as urgent as it stated. I was taking a 100+ mile trip and would’ve preferred to not worry about a potential problem on my ride. The car made it fine, but the customer service experience was not idea — especially not after paying a very high rental price of $130 for 24 hours.

Only one employee was working the counter at MCO, while there was a massive lineup of customers when I was waiting to pickup my rental. I waited for over 2-hours in the evening. A second employee arrived just as I reached the front of the line. The car’s engine light was on when I picked it up, and when I asked the garage attendant about swapping a vehicle, they said we’d have to go to the desk inside the terminal again - my family and I could not even think about spending more time trying to get on the road so we just drove away with the engine light on in our original vehicle. The fastbreak account option seemed like it may be a good solution to skipping the lineup, but the booking had to be made through that account and I didn’t know about it until it was too late. Next time, I will explore booking through fastbreak.

I was randomly given an EV. I was asked to pay $27 for the convenience of having them charge it on the return rather than me “spending 3-4 hours charging it.” I was renting the car to get from the Orlando airport to Vero Beach and turning it in there, so I agreed to the charge. When I drove out of the parking garage, I saw that it only had 5% battery left. I drove right back to the drop off and asked what to do. I was told to park the car and go to the on site office. There I was told I needed a verification number that I had turned the car in. No apology for my inconvenience. So I walked back to the drop off area (again with my luggage) to find someone to grove me the required number. Got the number and went back to the office (with my luggage). A lovely lady said she would give me the same car, but it would be a hybrid. I asked if I could get a refund on the $27 charge for the electric charging and that I would fill the gas before returning the car. I was told no. She said, however, that since I had already paid the $27, it would only cost me $8 more for the convenience of having Hertz fill up the car when I dropped it off 1-1/2 hours later. I got to my destination without further incident, but 2 hours later than planned.

I reserved a Ford Transit (or similar) 12-passenger van. The reason I booked this rental with Dollar via KAYAK was specifically because pricing was competitive and seemed better than most other options. I booked this more than 3 months prior to our trip. Once I arrived at the Dollar rental desk, I was told that my reservation was for a 7 passenger minivan. Despite me showing emails with the reservation details showing the rate I paid and showing the type of vehicle, Dollar refused to honor the reservation. I ultimately was charged more than $500 extra for the upgrade and additional fees for the full size van, and I definitely could have booked it for cheaper than that back when I originally reserved the vehicle. I got screwed because of a communication breakdown between Dollar rental car and their online booking agent (KAYAK) and Dollar refused to accept any accountability for it…the question is, will Kayak take any responsibility

Customer service was not exactly the best. Good luck renting an electric vehicle. They are so not helpful in explaining details and rather want you to buy extras. Drop off was fine

This is the third time that I have paid for a car that the rental car company classifies as an intermediate, only to be given a compact or sub-compact SUV. this time it was a Kia Soul that according to the thrifty website is a compact car, not a intermediate, but you already know that. Your counter agents are well versed in attempting to upsell the client on insurance and toll road transponders. Under NYS law neither are required and I had my own transponder with me so I accepted neither. NYS and I are fully aware of these upsell techniques.

Pros:

Prices were jacked up mich higher than normal. Staff offered me a small SUV over the sedan I originally reserved but it turned out to be a lousy bumpy ride, intolerable at highway speeds due to the vibration at 75mph and greater. On the plus side, it didn't break down

Cons:

Cleanliness. I had to hit my breaks hard once and trash slid out from under the passenger seat.
