When I went to bed about 11.30 pm I found that my bed, in a twin, had a mattress that had springs broken and as a result had a very poor night's sleep. I reported the matter at Reception next morning and was assured that it would be changed without delay. In other respects the hotel was fine but this important aspect spoiled my stay.
Meals were good value Service at breakfast on final day was poor, it took nearly forty minutes to get breakfast. but to be fair to them they were fully booked.
The room was excellent and the golf course was presented well. We were rather disappointed with the standard of food
Convenient for my work location in this instance with convenient on-line booking. Good, freshly made breakfast. No complaints
Friendly staff at reception. Good view out onto the bowling green. Nice walk round the golf course. Very easy access to the Wye Valley and Symonds Yat beauty spots. Easy to hear noise from other rooms.
the residents bar 10pm - 6am the beds were poor, the part of the hotel we stayed in was old and worn.
As walkers we had everything we needed including food & drink in a lovely location, the distance to our walks was fairly close and the taxi transfer was easy and arranged by reception staff who also gave advice on our walks, it would be an ideal location for large groups to use as a base. I could not use the electric kettle in the room as there were no sockets in easy reach
Efficient & friendly staff Getting to the restaurant involves going outside to another building
Hotel staff very helpful, location in the Forest of Dean The "restaurant" facilities within the golf club really let it down and not what we expected from a country hotel - no table clothes! effectively eating in the golf club bar. Food ok but not special. It needed to be in the main hotel
Fantastic leisure pool. Amazing grounds - a haven of tranquility. Food was a little disappointing.
What was there not to like! The lodge we were in was perfectly clean with everything we needed. We only paid £75.00 for the evening for 2 adults and 2 children which was a lot cheaper than any of the hotels in the area. We had attended a very close family members funeral that day and it was so wonderful to go back to our lodge and properly relax in comfort and peace and quiet.
Staff professional and very pleasant. Food superb. I am a light sleeper, and unfortunatly I could clearly hear a very loud snorring next door which kept me awake most of the first night.
Owners very friendly and welcoming - excellent breakfast. Local information and maps readily available for visitors to the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas.
The owners were so welcoming and friendly
Was offered a free upgrade and made very welcome No
free and easy, come and go as you please stopped during cold spell, central heating inadequate
Tourism activities suchas Go Ape in the Forest of Dean
Bed and Breakfast very good, Pat and Brian very nice people really relaxed and friendly atmosphere, would stay there again.
pleasant surroundings friendly staff good value for money bit quiet but this could be the time of year i was there
Very comfortable. Excellent hosts. Breakfast was the best we have had in a very long time. Lovely area. Particualrly liked the fresh milk in the fridge and home made sausages were superb. None
Hotel ha plenty of character and is clean and comfortable.
I did not enjoy it I did not like the fact that the lights in the corridor did not work. I was really put off that the bin in the bathroom was full of rubbish.
charming old building and private guest entrance so no need to go through the bar room quite small and bathroom in need of an update
location noise from live music and disco downstairs and no attached car park
Fair value for money, clear precise directions to room Room was dirty in places, don't like being addressed as mate by the staff, room facilities poor.
Individuality of hotel and its rooms/ The room was not cleaned correctly with screwed up sweet wrapper behind one bedside table, the kettle flamed when plugged in and the room was too noisy with the live music on the Friday night that we stayed there.
The hotel provided value for money. The breakfast could have been better. It is a good location for activities such as canoeing, cycling, walking.
Free wi-fi services The room is not so clean
Hotel is central and staff are friendly and helpful. Room not as clean as it should be. Shower drain partially blocked and not cleared although we reported it.
Plenty of character, very friendly staff and within easy reach of Cardiff and Gloucester. The shower (head) could have been cleaner.
Very clean, comfortable and quiet. Owners friendly and happy to assist with any query, breakfast lovely. Pleasant atmosphere. WiFi helpful. Local pub ideal for evening meal.
Hospitality was excellent. Lovely couple. Very courteous and helpful. Room was very clean and cosy. Beautiful garden to sit and eat. Parking on site. Could have benefited from more room i.e another table as I had to sterilise bottles for the baby in the bathroom but there is a lounge downstairs.
The hotel was excellent with freindly approach and an excellent breakfast. The bed was not as comfortable as it might have been and squeaked
Friendly and welcoming
Central, with a late night bar The necessity to be back before midnight! You could pick up and pay for an "after midnight" key, but you do not always plan to be back late!
friendly, helpful staff shabby decor and furnishings, noisy room
The actual room we stayed in apart from the shower room was fine. The food at breakfast was fine. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The shower room was not too good with tiles missing from the wall. Wall-paper peeling from the walls. No plug in the sink and the shower was leaking onto the floor. Fungal growth around the tiles.
I found the room very dull and definitely not worth the £65 per night price. However Monmouth is a Fantastic town. Shame the Hotel didn't live up to this standard.
Conveniently placed for our overnight stay en route between the destinations of our short break. All the facilities we required were available at the hotel. Somewhat narrow stairs - on of the party had recently had a hip operation so mobility was affected.
The service was excellent. The Young man on the reception seemed to do pretty much every role in the place, but provided a warm welcome . The hotel is very close to town and the main roads in and out of Monmouth Bath is very small and the noise from the front road can be very loud through the night
Not too much. Room decor, bathroom, walkways, bar. Rubbish dumped in car park.
The only thing we liked about this hotel were the staff. They were freindly and helpful. Did not like the bed, we rolled to the edge and was worried about falling out in the night. Also very noisy at night with other guest talking in the passage and the kitchen moving bins around underneath our window.
convenient only the above
staff where excellent nowhere to read comfortably in room
