Pros: The staff were helpful, kind and friendly and looked after us really well. The hotel was warm, atmospheric, welcoming. The room was beautiful with views over the town square and mountains beyond. The decor was lovely throughout which contributed to the atmosphere of the place. Food was very good and cooked breakfasts huge. Dolgellau is a great base for exploring southern Snowdonia.
Cons: Lack of parking. There was only a very limited number of parking bays behind the hotel. There was 24 hour parking near the rugby club (a 5minute walk from hotel) for £5 and free street parking sometimes available between 7pm and 9am.

Pros: Location. Friendly staff.
Cons: Pricey bar food. Room was smaller than we expected and poor layout/plastic chairs and poor lighting etc. Breakfast was a bit lacklustre - small range of cereals, no self selection - all ordered off menu and a bit slow.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything except as stated below
Cons: Quirky shower controls difficult to understand how to operate. Later found explanation in Brochure! Still found pointless the quirky styling and operation. Plenty of simple power showers available. Towel radiator did not work and had a leaking valve. Stains on floor from leak. Instructions on Bathroom heating not applicable - no switch outside bathroom etc. Thermostat outside did not bring heating on.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly welcome - loved the fresh biscuits! Room was spacious and clean. Our evening meal and breakfast were delicious and cooked fresh to order.
Cons: Our only negative was the bed frame! The shape and size resulted in us banging our shins on several occasions!!! Be careful!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had supper, which was very good, and breakfast also, although service was a little slow. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Cons: Having to carry a heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs to the entrance, then up two flights of stairs to get to our room, was difficult. The room was lovely and the bed very comfy. However, the beautiful modern bed had a timber frame with a shelf all round which stuck out at shin level. it was difficult to avoid when walking round the bed and we now have several bruises as a result. Particularly difficult (and painful) when half asleep in the dark! Every thing else was lovely.

Overview Reviews

6.0 Good
Pros: This is a magnificent location and after a very expensive revamp it is a fantastic setup. Very comfortable rooms with good facilities. Robyn and Lucy, the duty managers were very good and saved the day.
Cons: The inexperienced staff and the food/kitchen were poor. The general manager and chef need to take responsibility here, as there is no excuse in a country like the UK, to run out of many items on the dinner and breakfast menu and to have staff that have not been trained properly in even the basics of running front of house. Poor knowledge of menu availability. Was offered one drink by waitress the whole evening, even though, our empty glasses were standing around. Wrong drinks delivered to table, low levels of customer service in restaurant overall. We were not the only clients on the night to be very unhappy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything very impressed
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is excellent as is the refurbished hotel and facilities. The breakfasts were brilliant. The main hotel was a short walk from our lodge room and the staff were accommodating, helpful and very pleasant.
Cons: The choice of food on the Thursday evening menu was very good but we were a bit disappointed on Friday to find that there were no specials being offered as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We could have done with another chair in our lodge room as there was nowhere else to sit except the bed.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely designed, clean and spacious family room.
Cons: Although lots of staff worked the dinning room it took a long time to get there attention for additional drinks.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There was nothing we didn't like. Staff, food, accommodation and views were tremendous. A fantastic relaxing place to stay even if the weather is terrible. We only wish we could have stayed longer
Cons: We liked everything, don't spoil a good thing.

Pros: Cosy areas to sit in the lounge, roaring fires, good breakfast and very comfy bed
Cons: Flashing battery light in the alarm directly above the bed!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The house and hospitality...and thee breakfast!!
Cons: It was a little cold in the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in Cottage. Amazing location. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly. We had much more than we expected at the property milk, butter, fresh bread etc etc... The property itself is beautiful with historic architecture and lots of character. There are a few shops in walking distance such as Spar which is a huge convenience.
Cons: As a person with dust allergies I had a hard time wheezing and sneezing most of time there as I found it very dusty, there were cobwebs in a lot of places too. I would recommend anyone with a dust allergy to make sure to remember your inhaler and antihistamine. Another issue we encountered is that the property is not well insulated as it feels very cold in the winter. Even with the heaters on the temperature at night is really cold. Luckily we resolved this issue by using an oil heater the next night provided in the property. We would probably stay again upon speaking to the hosts regarding the dust Prior to arrival and most likely in the warmer months.

Pros: Amazing location with absolutely everything you need supplied for a self catering stay. So often I find this type of accommodation has the bare minimum. Not Bryn Mair. Everything you need, shops, pubs, restaurants, are within walking distance but you would think you were miles from anywhere.

6.0 Good
Pros: This is a magnificent location and after a very expensive revamp it is a fantastic setup.

Pros: There was nothing we didn't like. Staff, food, accommodation and views were tremendous. A fantastic relaxing place to stay even if the weather is terrible. We only wish we could have stayed longer
Cons: We liked everything, don't spoil a good thing.

Cons: Flashing battery light in the alarm directly above the bed!
