Little America Flagstaff is hands down one of the best hotels in Flagstaff for families. The hotel offers guest rooms, luxury suites, and two-bedroom apartment suites with kitchens, ideal for those with small children. This rustic lodge is a place I visit whenever I need a little peace and quiet, as many of the guest rooms overlook clusters of Ponderosa pine trees.

Walking in, expect to be enveloped in rustic tranquillity. The lobby is swathed in dark wood, with Southwest details like large gemstone rocks and colourful Native American-inspired textiles. Some rooms and suites also feature fireplaces.

But the spot I most enjoy spending time in is the Silver Pine Restaurant. Its high ceilings and large windows let in plenty of light, and you can admire the pine forest views as you dine on huevos rancheros or prime rib after a hike on one of the resort’s trails.

If you want some street cred for lodging right on Route 66, stay at the Country Inn and Suites by Radisson Flagstaff Downtown, which overlooks the famed road. Set right in the heart of downtown, this is one of the best hotels in Flagstaff for exploring the city’s cute shops and restaurants on foot.

Just a five-minute drive from the Lowell Observatory (where Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto in 1930), Hyatt Place Flagstaff is one of the newest hotels in the city. It opened in 2023 and still feels fresh and shiny.

I always ask for a high-floor room to enjoy the stunning mountain, forest and desert views. The hotel’s dining options are excellent if you’re on the go, whether that’s heading to a meeting or gearing up to hike a nearby canyon. The Breakfast Bar will set you up with a hearty start to the day, while the Placery serves up comforting hot plates after a long day out. There’s also the Market, where you can pick up snacks or essentials to take with you when heading out to explore.

If you’re looking for a hotel on the outskirts of the city, head to the Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort. One of the top-rated hotels in Flagstaff, it’s ideal for visitors who want to have some fun placing bets in the casino or experience the landscapes that surround the city. Or both – this would be a great place for a hen do or milestone birthday celebration.

The hotel comes with plenty of high-end amenities. Choose from swimming in a massive indoor pool, placing bets and playing games in the casino, or dining at the fancy steakhouse.

Before I head out for a day exploring, I always pick up a coffee and pastry at Indulgence, the on-site café, which is perfect for light bites. Step outside, and you’ll find yourself amid desert brush set against a backdrop of craggy mountains.

The High Country Motor Lodge describes itself as an “ode to wilderness”, and I’m inclined to agree. One of the best hotels in Flagstaff for rustic, quirky charm, it’s located along the famed Route 66. There’s nothing better than sitting outdoors on High Country’s patio near one of the fire pits, covered with a cosy plaid blanket and admiring the starry night sky.

High Country also has a large outdoor pool and a Nordic Spa experience, complete with a sauna. I love getting in touch with my inner child at this hotel, playing lawn games outdoors. The game room is also a fun place to enjoy board games, cards, or a round of pool.

Although the hotel has a range of classic rooms and suites, I always stay in one of the cute Cosmic cottages, tiny stand-alone casitas with amenities like vintage tape decks and cool coffee table books.

One of the most unique hotels in Flagstaff, Bespoke Inn dates back to 1894. For me, the all-encompassing seasonality of this particular hotel is what makes it a special place to stay year-round.

During spring and summer, the gardens and courtyard are quaint spots to enjoy a cold beer. Meanwhile, the serene parlour is the perfect place for a chat next to the fireplace on a chilly autumn or winter evening. Some rooms even have fireplaces or kitchenettes, complete with vintage refrigerators.

Bespoke Inn's downtown location is an easy walk from the train station and many of the city’s best hotels and breweries. I always feel at home in this boutique inn, thanks to its vintage charm, curated decor, and tailored amenities.

Heard the saying, “Get your kicks on Route 66?” Well, I always get a kick out of typing the Americana Motor Hotel’s address into my GPS: 2650 East Route 66. The hotel’s location-inspired nostalgic charm brings to mind the good old days, thanks to quirky touches like lawn games and rooms with colourful retro decor, including disco balls.

But don’t worry, comfort is of the utmost importance here too, so you can expect your room to come with practical amenities like comfy pillow-top mattresses and luxe bath toiletries.

One of the best hotels in Flagstaff, mingling in the backyard of the Americana Motor Hotel is just as fun as an in-room disco party. During your stay, plan to play yard games, warm up near the fire pits, lounge in hammocks and dive into the inviting outdoor pool. There’s even a dog-washing station if you plan to bring Fido along.

The alpine-inspired Courtyard by Marriott Flagstaff is a large hotel not far from the Northern Arizona University campus. Its modern rooms feel sleek and bright, and some have private balconies from which you can admire the towering San Francisco Peaks.

The hotel has one on-site restaurant, the Bistro (which features Starbucks coffee), as well as an indoor swimming pool and fitness centre. But I prefer to spend my time at the cheerful outdoor fire pit, which has very comfortable seating and is flanked by trees, bushes, and landscaped greenery. It’s the perfect spot to keep warm while stargazing on a chilly Arizona night.

One of the best hotels in Flagstaff, the Courtyard is ideal for anyone who wants to spend their days out exploring the nearby peaks and canyons but still wants to come back to a comfortable place to stay each night.

One of the best hotels in Flagstaff for a lodge-inspired stay, the Days Hotel by Wyndham Flagstaff welcomes you with a fireplace, freshly brewed coffee, and tasty cookies the moment you walk in the door. It’s just a few minutes on foot from the historic Route 66 and a variety of restaurants, cafés, and shops.

I particularly appreciate the fact that guest rooms offer practical and convenient amenities like microwaves and coffee makers, which make mornings run much more smoothly. Some rooms also come with balconies that overlook Flagstaff and its sprawling natural expanse.

Although this hotel has an indoor pool, the real hangout spot is the Northern Pines restaurant. It takes its cues from its surroundings and is home to a wooden fireplace, a giant moose head, and Southwest-inspired art and decor.
