Pros:

The agent at Norfolk was so personable. She brought sunshine to an anxiety-riddled experience of going to the airport and trying to find things. I left the counter smiling.

They don't accept any debit cards. So if you book and think you're going to pay with debit, you can't. Also, they overcharged me. What they charged me differs from the desk to after return. Shady. Don't use them.

Over an hour wait to get your car from the time you checked in. Extremely frustrating as this was for a one way reservation to drive to another airport and catch a flight; so we could not wait. Caused me to have to cancel my reservation because of the extreme delay and rent a car from another vendor last minute for a much higher price.

The rental counter was oversold and lacking 10+ cars the day I picked up. Their only available option was an electric car and definitely not what I reserved in advance. I was driving 3+ hours to take a ferry to an island that didn’t have a charger. They told me the car would fully charge in an hour and that it would be fully charged when I got it (neither of these things was true).

When I arrived at Avis, they simply said “will a pick up truck be acceptable?” I said yes and then she ran my card. At no point did she tell me that she was up charging me versus what I booked. At no point did I sign anything. I was told where to go to pick it up. That was it. I was asked to buy a damage waiver, but there was nothing to indicate pre-existing damage (there was some - in fact the bumper was touching a pillar in the parking garage.) Imagine my surprised when I got a significantly higher than expected bill. Avis did this same thing to my wife a couple months ago. They claimed she agreed to it and produced and electronically signed document.

The staff was ok at pick up & drop off.

Cons:

1) Customer service availability should be a lot better than what it is. I needed instruction from customer service at 5:30am eastern time involving misgiven info from a reservations specialist regarding my drop off location open time so i dropped the car off at another location that just opened for the day since i couldn't wait for my location to open. Because i kept getting a recording saying customer service closed it costed me an extra $100.00 for drop the car off at another Thrifty location rather than leave it abandoned & be liable for it.

Cons:

I arrived at 9am to find out that I couldn't rent car til 3pm...then I was told I had to have a $200 deposit aside from the price of the car and I didn't have enough to cover it.... Thrifty/Hertz wouldn't let my sister pay for my rental over the phone.... so I sat there stranded with my luggage all day trying to figure out how I was going to come up with the money so I can get home....it was very upsetting so I never got the rental

The car wasn't very clean. Sticky stuff on the gear shifter, seatbelts. The windows were dirty inside and out. Visibility was difficult.
