it was a clean and well run hotel with very friendly and helpful staff breakfast could have been better
Reception staff were especially helpful Bar did not open until 6.30 p.m., and even then it was only service in the main reception area.
Location close to town and the port Lack of available parking and high cost of parking.
The hotel lobby, restaurant, conference rooms and rooftop garden were all first class. The room was okay - could use updating. Simple, but clean.
Well located & good view from room
friendly and helpful reception staff, very good location of the hotel air condition did not work, insufficient sound isolation from the neighbor room, bathroom would need some small repairs, some of food at the breakfest was not fresh
Hotel has a convenient location, close to where you might like to board a ferry to view the C.T. Reception staff were very helpful. We asked for a room with a view and a quiet room and we received a quiet room with a lovely view. With adding these into bookings.com when you are making a hotel booking.
We stayed at this hotel due to my husband having a medical incident while on vacation in the Cinque Terre. He was in hospital in La Spezia and this hotel is well located near the hospital and also overlooking the harbout. When my husband was discharged from hospital, we stayed in a junior suite that was perfect for our needs. The staff were very obliging in helping us to have accessibility in an older building. As well there is a good breakfast included on the lobby level and a restaurant off the 1st floor. We found the restaurant to be lovely because it has an outdoor terrace overlooking the harbour; however, the menu is essentially the same everyday with limited buffet options. That is where we could see some room for growth.
Friendly and helpful reception staff. Our room had a very nice view to the harbour. Announced refurbishing of the hotel, was very clearly recognizable. Restaurant only served a barbeque buffet during our stay in August.
Location was good for traveling by car Room seemed outdated.
unfortunately I would find anyting positive to comment on at this hotel from our experience. As a hotel broker I see many hotels and the service and price of this hotel is far from satisfactory. Our room was not as described, we experienced insects in the room, the room was not clean and in need of repair of basic utilities. The service from the staff was far from satisfactory, rude and unhelpfull. I would struggle to recomend this hotel to any traveller. see comments above
We were driving and found the location was very convenient and the parking was very useful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts were fabulous but it would be great to get expresso as part of the breakfast and not an extra charge.
Size of room and staff helpfulness. They upgraded our room because it was our honeymoon which was nice The parking is a disaster. It is off site and you have to pay 18 euro for the privelage. They have free parking out front but you can never get a spot so beware
Nothing Bath room
very modern and fresh rooms. staff were helpful, letting me use their computer after my wallet was stolen on the Cinque Terre (we didn't have a laptop to use the internet in the room) The address in the hotel information didn't have the number, so even with the tom-tom, finding the hotel in the one way system was a bit hard
Modern and clean hotel, good location close to the main shopping and restaruant streets. Staff were nice and friendly and very helpful in locating a dostor for me. Beds were quite firm, would have liked a softer bed
Spacious, nice room Walking distance to main station is kind of far
Location was great. Rooms had all the necessities. Limited free parking out front, beds were hard (as were found in most of Italy though)
Room and cleanliness TV channels (not many international channels)
The air conditioning in my room was non functional
Front desk staff helpful. Breakfast included in price was excellent. A comfortable place to 'land' at the end of a long day of travel.
nice bathroom, the owner was nice when we saw her! no one there when we arrived, another guest answered the door! breakfast in a cafe in town,(so had to leave the room etc) , just one coffee & croissant- for 85 euros!
The owners were fantastic! Even the people we were directed to have breakfast at, were fantastic! We were driven to a carpark and driven back to the hotel. We showed up and were offered a free upgrade to our rooms (originally supposed to have 1 room for 4 people, gave us 2 double rooms for the same price). The rooms were the largest we've ever stayed in while traveling through Europe. Beds were very comfortable. Perfect location to catch a train if you're traveling the Cinque Terre or any of the small villages nearby. Originally were only supposed to stay 1 night in La Spezia at Casa Dane but stayed an extra night because of the location and hospitality. Definitely recommend this hotel! We were a little confused when we arrived because there was no one at the hotel. We didn't know that we were supposed to call before arrival and then they would meet us at the hotel. All in all, probably our fault and the way things work there... just a bit confusing.
The purpose of our stay here - easy access to Cinque de Terre - was fully served. The hotel was well situated, and the staff helpful. the breakfast was very nice - wide variety. There was some ambiguity about what was included in the breakfast, and what one had to pay extra for, if anything.
Easy access to the station and a good breakfast Limited tv options
close proximity to train station limited english of check in staff limited english tv channels no one told us there was an internet computer that we could use
The closeness to the Station. Would be a pleasant improvement if Staff smiled occasionally. The younger aged staff were pleasant whereas the older ones were quite grumpy.
It was ideally located for train trips to Cinque Terre. Just what we wanted. Friendly staff, and very helpful. Breakfast was good. There needs to be a major upgrade of WiFi service. It was very poor, and very, very expensive! Not what the modern traveller expects. I wasted many Euro waiting for connections, service etc.
The location next to the train station is ideal as a base for travel to Cinque Terre The pillows were so soft and that makes sleeping uncomfortable.
The building is very old, and they have kept many of the original features. My room was huge with ancient exposed beams, but a very modern bathroom. The staff are most helpful, and happy to help organise tours etc. I had an injury and they were very helpful in getting medical treatment and ensuring I got any assistance I needed.
Good breakfast facilities; nice staff Chipped cups; poor lift service ground floor button not working
Had wonderful view from our 3rd floor window. The staff most helpful with recommendations for good restaurants and maps. Proximity to railway station was excellent. The shower was a bit small.
location is great staff was no smile
The hotel was very conveniently situated for visiting La Spezia and the Cinque Terra as it is directly across from the train station. There are many shops and restaurants close by and internet access is available either at the hotel or just down the road. The hotel staff were very friendly and English was understood. The continental breakfast was excellent. I was travelling on my own and felt safe and secure staying at the hotel and coming and going from the hotel. I have no hesitations at all about recommending the Hotel Mary.
good location not enough food choices for breakfast and quantaties not replenished quickly outside street noise so loud it was almost impossible to sleep at night bed very uncomfortable matress needed replacing noise from other rooms clearly audible
Hotel Mary was fantastic! about 2min walk from the station ( acess to cinqa terre). Staff were friendly. Room was large, clean and comfortable!
It was close to the station, the staff were very helpful and we stayed in far worse 3 star hotels this trip.
The hotel staff was very kind and informative. Our quad room was large and comfortable. The breakfast was good. This hotel was one of the most expensive on our trip - the same as our hotel in Venice. The close proximity to Cinque Terre makes the price fair.
The pizza place around the conner, but it had nothing to do with the hotel It was the worst hotel that we stayed at in all of Italy. We checked out as soon as we were able because of the condition on the hotel. Insulation was falling out of the ceiling, paper thin walls, the beds were like sleeping on cots, and no matter what room you were in you could hear the traiffic from the street below.
This hotel is right across the street from the main hotel which is good if you're passing through. Shower was itty bitty!
best feat was being right next to the main station, free internet also v.good and room ok too. For some who like having a nice breakfast though, forget about it. The most spartan I have ever experienced I'm afraid, really poor probably for lack of effort. For some who like having a nice breakfast though, forget about it. The most spartan I have ever experienced I'm afraid, really poor probably for lack of effort.
The location in relation to the train station was excellent. The breakfast was nice too. One of the staff members made us feel rushed at breakfast and barely smiled. This made us feel as though we were more of a burden than a valued paying guest.
the access to city, port, transport and shopping was wonderful.
the air conditioning the location was less than what we expected, but not terrible
Well set up for the cinque terre train connection Near a main road
The staff was very, very helpful. Bed could have been softer
The staff was most helpful. We reached the hotel at about 9 PM, and the lady at the reception helped us order some food. Given that we had just about two X 1/2 days at La Spezia, they helped us plan our trip such that we were able to cover Cinque Terre and go to Pisa!
- large, comfortable room with balcony - shuttle service to train station from where trains depart to the cinque terre towns Although breakfast was served from 8 to 10 a.m., certain items on the breakfast buffet were not replenished after 9 a.m.
Great service concerning Cinque Terre. Woman at the desk spoke excellent English and was so kind and helpful! We got our tickets for CT from the hotel.Good breakfast. Free shuttle-bus to train station. Safe parking.
The woman in the frontdesk was very nice - she helped us with good restaurant recomedations and direction. they give you free raid to the cinqua terra train (back and forward) the driver was supper kind to us. The hotel is old so the aircondition is old. there is no hut chocolate.
The rates presented great value for money The location was terrible with the hotel in a run-down area with no shops or restaurants. It was far from the city centre. The decor and furniture of the rooms were extremely dated and rooms were not thoroughly cleaned. The heating also didn't work well.
We thought it was great how we could have our family with 3 children all together in the one area and it was great value for money for us! The included breakfast was also fantastic and the front desk reception staff were happy and helpful and even though we don't speak much italian they were able to speak fluent English. Also the shuttle bus was really helpful and useful to us. We thought it was excellent- no complaints.... Many hotels now have free wifi which is very useful.
Gorgeous rooms -- especially the quad, which ended up being two different rooms -- perfect for us as two couples. Price was very good for how nice it was. Also a good variety of breakfast options. Not very close to city centre or train, so take advantage of free shuttle to hotel . Also, be sure to ask hotel staff for recommendations of nearby restaurants. We liked Mitili a lot.
The restaurant down the street "i Mitili" was amazing. Get to the Breakfast early.
Quiet location in the italian country. Big free parking. Nice italian atmosphere
Good hotel close to Cinque Terre. Good breakfast and free parking. Room was extremely small. Internest was not free as stated on the Booking.com Website.
price size of room, hot water usage
Very nice personal atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. Good free parking. Some defects in the bathroom.
Nice location above the city. Very good food. Comfortable rooms in a quiet surrounding. Nice and helpful staff. difficult access to the rooms and restaurant.
Good location for visiting the coast by car. Easy parking & helpful staff. It was a bit difficult to find so wasted some time, directions not very clear. Bed was very hard so therefore pretty uncomfortable.
Nothing. However the receptionist was very helpful and friendly. As for the hotel, not the staff, we would never come back. We reserved because it was the only place available for 2 rooms those 2 days. Location was not good, our room was so cold and our friend's room was extremely hot. Lack of comfort.
Excellent breakfast, clean and spacious rooms, helpfulness of staff
Verry kind staff, food in restaurant was excelent! The bed's ar a bit small if your 1.90m.
Staff and management very friendly. Room luxurious and restaurant excellent No comment
The help and attention from the staff at the hotel. Particularly enjoyed the breakfast area and food provided NO
How convenient it was to the La Cinque Terre. The hotel breakfast was very good...
Just a pleasant stay with friendly helpful staff, comfortable and clean accommodation, and a good breakfast.
Room was clean, staff really helpful, Staff spoke good English and there was plenty of room for the four of us for the one night stay, easy to find on the sat nav system . It took us to the front door. Parking out the front of the building, Seemed to be noisy with traffic noise, but we were in a front room on the main road
Nice and helpful staff at the breakfast room. Not so far away from the city center and port. Tualette leaking (fixed after warning), almost empty room and very small bathroom, car park 18 euros while the street was free for the whole night. It wasn't value for money.
Staff was helpful. All spoke English. Hotel was a reasonable walking distance to the train station. Good launching point for Cinque Terra.
We liked the fact that we had access to a courtyard. The staff were always helpful and we were provided with a very good breakfast. Housing a rental car at a charge of 18 euros per day is excessive.
They had a garage for the car for a daily fee, but worth it. The street it's on is very busy and noisy with cars, buses, scooters so I would request rooms in the back of hotel.
The location. Having chosen it to for access to both port and rail to forfilled our needs. The staff were great.
The staff was exceptionally nice. We really appreciated their kind hospitable manner. Street routing to hotel very difficult -- that's not the hotel's fault. Bed and furnishings could be improved.
Staff was very nice. Free internet access. We were upgraded to a family room which was huge and very comfortable. Room smelled a bit funny, but looked very clean.
Close to activities for Cinque Terre -brief train ride. Convenient to shopping, restaurants.
We had a baby with us and staff coulnt have been more helpful and generous. They offered their own computer for accessing and printing some documents. Not really - the water went off early in the morning but apparently it was allover La Spezia
Hotel centerally located close to many good restaurants, within easy walking distance to train station and access to Cinque Terre. Good value with a good continental breakfast and on demand expresso and cappacino inclided with breakfast. Good value for money. No free wifi although free 15 minute access available on hotel computer. All 2 & 3 star hotels we stayed in Italy had free wifi. The hotel website did not provide detailed walking instructions from the train station to the hotel (essential as most tourists arrive by train).
It was very well priced and conveniently situated for most things you wanted to do.
The staff was very helpful. We loved our room, the breakfast, and the computer for guests to use. We extended our stay for a full week because we liked the hotel and the city so much. We liked everything
Good location, comfortable rooms did not like that the shower drained to the entire bathroom floor, a bit musty
helpfull staff poor aircon in our room
very nice staff, big room
Location absolutely superb, the view was outstanding. Rooms excellent - tasteful and high quality. Peaceful and relaxing. Service only available for breakfast - therefore unable to get tea/coffee during the day. No lounge available for guests and restaurant not yet available..
the view is absolutely stunning and the service was great, the room was perfect as well.
The hotel is extremely nice. The room that we had was large and very well equiped, with a fantastic view from its balcony. The bathroom is almost luxurious for the category of the hotel. The breakfast, which is included in the price is very good ,as well as the restaurant.A nice swimming pool is included in the facilities. The only issue is that the noise isolation of the rooms is not good enough and we experienced some minor problems with this.
Very large and comfortable room, helpful staff. Very good facilities and perfect view on the bay. Good restaurant.
Just a fantastic view from the hotel and from the room !!! Very reccomended for the romantic holidays :) Nice room, huge terrase with the view to lagoon of La Spezia, beautiful on the night. Excellent restorant (quite expensive) ! Warm personell. Easy to get to Portovenere and Chinque Terre. Just want to come back ! Only minus - thin walls (could hear my neighbour snooring :) Don't know how it's possible to get there without the car.
The beautiful setting and the very attractive room.
the view is breathtaking the hotel should inform in advance of the difficult access - a dirt road. It is very difficult to get there in a sports car
distance outside city and very bad road
The view of the bay was spectacular and the staff were brilliant. The chef made the most amazing food. The staff could not do enough to make our stay magical - even brought my partner herbal tea to our room!
A lovely hotel with beautiful views over the bay. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Room v good. Fantastic infinity pool. Information about the hotel services was limited e.g. we were not told that the restaurant was closed one night but we were provided with excellent cold meal. The location is difficult without a car.
Great location, nice room. Parking
first of all the location, couldn't be better. The rooms were excellent (outside view rooms). the staff was very friendly and helpful. need to renovate the elevator...extremely slow and too small
I really enjoyed my time here. Lovely view from restaurant terrace and the breakfast was wonderful. The location is perfect - right across from the boat and near the castle. Toiletries and towels are very nice. I agree with others about the elevator but plan accordingly and you'll be fine. Staff were efficient and helpful - not super chipper but hard working and had answers. Loaded with Americans but so is all of Cinque Terre. Leave the hotel and you hear the Italian. Can be loud. They have wood floors so you hear the chairs moving above. Elevator fits three people so during a busy stay may be a problem for some. But again, nothing huge.
The position of the hotel was very convenient for the little town of P.V. with plenty of restaurants to choose from. The room was always cleaned thoroughly and a pleasure to return to at the end of the day -excellent cleaning staff. The breakfast service was inconsistent and we often had to search for staff to ask for our coffee. The orange juice set out in the jugs was not good - from powder I think. We only discovered on the last day by pure chance that freshly squeezed orange juice could be requested - it was a well-kept secret! The lift needs updating - very slow and frustrating. The fact that one could not walk from the reception up to the fourth floor or down again without going outside is bizarre. Also some kind of pleasant indoor lounge - with a view- would be nice for rainy days.
Portovenere was an ideal location for a visit to Cinque Terre. The views were incredible from the hotel. Loved it!
Hotel is situated overlooking the Golf of Poets. Great view of the water, boats and city streets from our room. Great breakfast and dining room with large patio overlooking water and city. Manicurist is adorable and did great job. Reception staff not too helpful. One word answers to our questions.
The staff were extremely kind, the view superb and the breakfast really good (in a terrace overlooking the sea &town) No cable tv, no internet in the rooms (only in reception hall) and, in general, the price should be a bit lower.
The Hotel is right in the centre of Porto Venere, and is the old Convent so has something of the old as well as good modern facilities. It is easy to reach from La Spezia, (bus, taxi, boat). We found it good base to explore the Cinque Terra coast and national park.It is good also for just relaxing in Porto Venere with its sea harbour, cafes, restaurants and shops.Dont miss the mid august festival period with the procession for the White Maddona,a visually stunning experience.
The hotel was very well situated and our room had a wonderful view of Portovenere and the harbor front. Helpful staff, as well. Minor point, but the room could have used a fresh painting.
The location was the best part of this hotel. The view from the room was very nice. The hotel was generally out dated, old looking furniture, carpets, bathroom, lift, TV etc. Is really needing renovation and considering the 180euro per night price tag..people expect more value for your buck.
Great position. Room without sea view. Spa and wellness center are not free but too much expensive.
Good location, very close to the train station. Rooms are simple, clean, comfortable. Good neighbourhood for meeting locals too! There are two buildings which are over 600 meters apart, and it is not at all clear where we are supposed to check in. I wrote to tell when we would arrive and although I got a fast reply, I was not given any instructions.
A bed & breakfast located in the heart of a quiet mountain village at the top of a ridge overlooking the Med and La Spezia on either side. Easily and cheaply reached by bus from the City.. Lots of packaged snacks in the bedroom fridge.Very clean sunlit rooms and bath. An ideal starting point for a full day's vigerous hike above and along the Cinque Terra trails. It is not a hotel ! Overpriced. Has no reception- (keys later provided by a shopkeeper) Breakfast was self service next to an adjacent kitchen. Few rooms available. The manager never really delt with us. No real staff. We paid an above average fee for a spectacular setting.
Friendly staff, one of whom did not speak English, the other a little bit. Nonetheless, we managed to communicate. Absolutely breathtaking view from our room w/small balcony overlooking the Ligurian Sea! The Locanda Tramonti is on the marked walking trail of the Cinque Terre. We were able to do a fairly easy walk from Campiglia to Riomaggiore, about 3 hours. Nearby church bells tolled every hour through the night, interrupting our sleep. The one or two restaurants in the village seem to close around 6pm and the bus service stops fairly early, so it's important to figure out your meal plans with that in mind.
Excellent location in the middle of the mountain and quite close to Cinque Terre. Perfect for hiking and nature lovers in general. The terrace sea view was tremendous. Breakfast was not buffet as announced in the website. Only packaged food. Coffee was good though.
lovely sight. wonderful ,calm and pitoresque village.
The accommodation / facilities / views were amazing. the husband, wifte and daughter maintaining the property were terrific - really helpful and nice. No nothing.
The hotel is a wonderful position looking at the same time at the Ligurian sea and to Apennino mountains. The room was very confortable and elegant. The location is just on the ridge of the Cinque Terre National Park's Coast and offer both countryside walking activities and sunbathing possibilities in a wild beach. If you are not travelling by car be careful to the bus schedule, no trains arrive there.
nice panoramic views The road leading up the the hotel is very dangerous. This needs to be mentioned in the advertising. Also the buffet breakfast consisted of coffee, dried biscuits and dired bread. Not worth 110 Euros in the off season. Also the staff or family could not speak a word of english. The accomodation was right next to the church bells which chimed loudly every half hour throughout the night and day. We did not sleep for two days because of this....in addition nothing was open in the town... besides a really bad restaurant.
Hotel is up in the hills above La Spezia. Great views, quiet. Easy to access trails around the Cinque Terre National Park. Walk to Riomaggiore in 3.5 hours. You can take a bus from the train station in La Spezia, but it does not run frequently. Very little English is spokwn by the owner or the woman who checked us into the hotel. We got by with hand gestures, etc. We would stay there again.
The views are superb and staff is really friendly.
