Clean room, nicely decorated N/a
It was clean and fairly well maintained. It was easy to get on to most major highways. Great location if you need to be close to the harbor. There were several places to eat in the surrounding neighborhood, though wander too far and it gets a bit sketchy. The pool area is very nice but a bit run down. This was the third hotel of our trip down the coast and it was the most expensive and the least accommodating. It had refrigerators in the room but no microwaves. After calling to see if there was a microwave in a common room I could use, they said it was a $15 a night charge. They don't serve breakfast. The elevators sound like death traps, and I am not usually one to be scared of such things. The overall vibe is a hotel desperately trying to pretend to be better than it is. It's not horrible for a mid-range hotel but the price is a high end hotel. Don't come with super high expectations and you won't be disappointed.

I absolutely loved exploring! After being out Kate and freezing, it was so nice to come back to a warm and toasty room. Wished I was able to stay longer. My suitcase was super heavy and I got a small blister from carrying it; I kept Hopi g that there would be someone with a cart around to help. It's ok though. A tour guide going through the hallway woke us up in the morning.

The staff was knowledgable and very friendly. The historical information was incredible both posted and what staff knew. Being able to explore many places on the ship on our own was really fun. Wish there was a microwave in the room.
It's a cool, old cruise ship. It's kind of a tourist destination in itself. Also, it's really close to the helipad if you're taking the helicopter to Catalina. Overall, the boat felt old and empty and dingy. The bathroom looked a little dirty —probably just age—and there were lightbulbs missing from some of the fixtures in our room. I wanted it to be like stepping back in time, but that wasn't the experience on a weekday. Maybe weekends are better?
Unique and different. Good food although pricey as well. Lot's of things to do and see. Lot's of channels in room. Bed a bit small... We went during a special event and spent extra for the winter "chill" event. avoid at all costs. totally overpriced for what you get. Most disappointing part of our trip.

What I like is the history about the Ship and the Location. I understand that there is an investment proyevt to improve the condition of the ship, incluían Public Areas and Rooms. Great view from the Decks. A lot of Potential to be a nice lace that was before. Get the Ship back in good shape and not just take advantage of the name! (This is for the Operators) My room was M216 I did not like the conditions of the room. It was not clean! No mentioned in the reservation that will be inside room! Big difference! Items were really old and rusty mainly in the Bathroom! Shawrr door, one light bulb missing, the chain of the lock at entrance door broken, I went to get ice and the bucket had brown water with a plastic bag!! And the door of the Air Conditioning, which was above the bed was showing further prints All over in a white door! The hotel should not rent this rooms anymore!
There was no hot water in the shower. I told the staff I was sick and needed my room right away and they didn't really seem to care.
I loved the feel of the golden age of ocean liners onboard. My girlfriend and I decided to stay the night before our cruise on Carnival the next day, which is conveniently located next to the ship. I wish more areas were open to guests such as the 1st class pool and grand ballroom.
I love the concept of The Old Ship and the stateroomsecond as well as it being right on the water. The front desk staff was really rude. He just had an attitude the whole time and didn't want to accommodate us. We thought that we booked a room with two queens but it only had two twins and he was just very snobby about it. The rooms were very hot the air conditioner barely worked. I feel for the price it is not worth it. If they are charging over $200 a night, that's including tax, there needs to be a lot more luxury to the hotel. The toilet did not flush very well in the bathtub was uneven. It really needs a facelift.
Cool old ship. It's old ship, so the rooms are a bit old and not exactly sparkling clean. But the real issue is the Dark Harbor, haunted house event that goes on in October. We were not informed till arriving that are room would be adjacent to this raucous event. From 7pm until 1 am in the morning, extremely loud music, screaming, grass breaking and roaring gas flame would shoot off. It's criminal that the Queen Mary would rent rooms next to this mess. Oh but the front desk gives out cheap ear plugs, so that makes it all better.... not. We were on our one year anniversary and needless to say, were extremely disappointed and frustrated,
The ship was a grand experience! Love the history lots of things to explore. The beds were comfortable! I liked the original fixtures in the room. I can only image the people long ago entering the rooms and using the ship! Food was good! We ate in The Chelsea Chowder House and Bar. Slightly priced but the food was excellent and service was outstanding!!! Paying for the use of the WIFI And parking that seems odd to me because back east those items are free?! Other thing drove nuts--the walls seemed to be paper thin the 3-women in the cabin next to us were so loud!! It was a joy when they left the room or went to sleep!!!! However I understand that would not be an issue when the engines would be humming at sea!!

The adult pool option. The different food options including casual dining at nelsons. The cliff side walking trails and the terranea cove! The bartender who went to the bathroom at nelsons and didn't wash his hands.
Dinner at mar'sel was amazing - very enjoyable. 1/2 price sushi rolls at Bashi on Sunday afternoon was a nice way to finish the weekend. Having to take the elevator up and down 1 floor to get into and out of my first floor room.
The hotel is very nice in almost every way - great facilities, nice restaurants, decent scotch options at the bar. The air conditioning doesn't work at night! Total deal-breaker. Not only did the air conditioner stop blowing out cold air, it started blowing hot air as soon as the motion detector stopped registering us. If you are staying here, be prepared to sweat at night, or figure out some way to hack the motion detector so you can sleep!
terrific activities, nice amenities and the right personal touches for young families. food was average, but wish menus would be improved a bit at the hotel restaurants.
We stayed for our 20 year anniversary and really enjoyed it. Luckily this website saved us about $100 on the room rate, otherwise we may not have stayted there. It is nice, but we have a hard time spending over $400 for one night's stay anywhere. It's a very relaxing place. Lots of walk ways along the oceanside, places to stop and sit and have a drink. There are several restaurants as well. Our meals were pretty good. It's definitely a place to lounge and relax. Keep in mind that although this alongside the ocean, there is no beach front to speak of for your kids to play in the water. There's a patch of sand they built but to get to the water there's about 50 of rocks that you don't want little ones to cross. Have fun! Expensive food and drinks. My husband and I had 2 glasses of wine and 3 beers and our tab was over $50.
good for young families=not teenagers. Ocean front room was actually pool front with beach in background. The adult only pool had few chairs which they allowed to be saved for hours with only a book and no one in site. the food service at the adult pool was very slow with ingredients unavailable for the day. would say they need to improve greatly on this issue. the spa pool is beautiful but we felt like we were nickel and dimed at every turn. 30 dollar valet parking and 25 dollar hotel charge with an extra 40 dollars to use adult spa pool. No turndown service given. None offered as an option. No towel racks in bathroom. No newspaper given nor offered upon check in.
Great 24 hour getaway. Friendly staff, hotel was quiet and peaceful. Beds are extremely comfortable. Sea Beans is the best for a quick bite to eat or take back to your room to enjoy!
The "Check In" staff was wonderful, helpful, and made me feel welcome. The rooms were comfortable and I will mostly likely stay here again when I visit Long Beach, CA. The hotel is in a great location prior to cruising and/or enjoying the beach. Even though my parking fee was waived, I hope free parking becomes a standard practice.

Location was perfect. Room was nice. Room i was confir.ed with kayak was not available. Required a double and she kept insisting i take a king. Showed her my email.. the she found a room on the underground floor.. that had double veds.. after much hassle. Then after we checked out.. we went bac 2 hrs later to retreive a forgotton jacket and it was missing. Cleaning staff didnt find it.. it was specifically lEft in the clost. Only way it could have dissappeares was if someone took it .
one of the most amazing experience to stay at the host hotel for the long beach marathon. the hotel made sure that the guests who stayed at the hotel who participated in the events will receive a mini brown bag w/ goodies for the race. room did not come w/ a mini refrig nor any mini bar

Went through Kayak to purchase this room. Kayak seemed to think it was a 4 star. It is it not a four star, 2.5 to 3. Took 25 minutes to check in with only one person in line ahead of me, mold in the shower, shower was over all dirty and old, room was stuffy the whole time I was there, parking was 26.00, which is NOT advertised, found out when I got there, Internet was 14.95, which I was advised of that when I arrived although my receipt showed a king size room - Internet. My fault for assuming that if was included. won't stay here again, especially for the rate that I was charged. Hmmmm... Large bath towels

Booked online for a room with a double bed. Reservation confirmation after booking the reservation snuck in "double or king." When we arrived at the hotel, there were no rooms with double beds and not even any rollaway beds. So I canceled the reservation. Kayak may not be the responsible provider, but when the website option selected is room with double beds and that's the primary reason for my selection of the particular hotel, they better have that kind of room available to backstop my booking. Otherwise, it's false advertising. I will think twice before using Kayak again to book a hotel room.
The staff was very helpful and nice. The price was high for what you get at the hotel. I have stayed in very nice hotels that offer a more luxurious feel. Also, there were protesters there outside the main entrance almost every morning around 0700. You could easily hear them and it was quite obnoxious.
The hotel itself was beautiful, and edgy. Everything was an additional charge and expensive. I've stayed in NY and never thought i'd see pancakes sold at $15. I also would expect a hotel to include wi-fi. Water for $5???

We especially liked the location and the service by the front desk. Fuego is a great place to dine. Unfortunately, we were placed next to a family that were loud and disrespectful until late night. The hotel staff tried to quiet them; however, it took many attempts. It was not the real fault of the hotel; but it did make our stay unpleasant.
The views, particularly at night. It was undergoing renovation of one of the towers. Some noise etc. associated with that although it stopped by 5 pm. The staff at the restaurant was really terrible when I had a late lunch. I have stayed there before and enjoyed good service, but it was quite bad on this trip. I waited for at least ten minutes while waiters walked by me and waited on tables seated after I was. There were only 6 or so tables total as it was late afternoon. At one point my waiter talked to the table next to me about personal matters for about ten minutes and then walked off without coming by my table or refilling my water. My experience with all other staff was excellent. The restaurant staff is entirely responsible for the Okay rating.
The atmosphere, view and vibe was relaxing and incredible !! the guy at the front desk was really respectfull and helpfull and even gave us free fresh baked choclate cookies at check in and compt our parking for our visit , think his name was Noor ... Highly recomend and will definitley be coming back soon ! Thumbs upppp

Easy access to bus line ( bus line is Clean an convenient) takes you to downtown long beach. Free shuttle to cruise ship terminal. Great pool and pool bar staff. Cool/funky mayan theme throughout.
We (either spouse and/or kid) have stayed here at least once a year and have watched it undergo many improvements, it is a wonderful place to stay if you want to be close to the Queen Mary but would like to avoid the noise or prefer a larger room and a pool. Since it is set up like a motel, you have to walk over between buildings and to the pool. The Sunday brunch is fantastic, there is a cute sand area for the kids, decor is cute and the facility always appears clean. I have not used any of the service options (in room or pool side) due to some really bad experiences prior to the change of ownership. During the last stay there was a music festival at the Queen Mary which is to say that it was difficult to get to the hotel and once there, parking was difficult and people were pre-partying around the hotel. We had dinner reservations on the QM and the woman at the front desk offered a golf cart shuttle to the ship. On our way to the room we watched concert goers jockey for a space on the golf cart and then proceed to sit on one another's lap to fit. When we later approached the golf cart pick up area we were relieved to find it empty. A person identifying himself as a manager informed me "this cart isn't working, the battery is out" and then he clarified that it was the only one they had. Lame. In the end we were able to get to dinner in 10 minutes via sturdy Louboutins and the walk path but I would have liked a more professional handling of the situation.

I would not recommend this hotel! The walls are paper thin, you could hear the water running, toilet flushing, and every foot step in the room above you.
My husband and I needed an inexpensive hotel for one night and this fit the bill. It was quiet, close to night life, and it's pet-friendly!
It's not the best I've ever been in, it's not the worst I've ever been in. Beds were firm, decent pillows, sheets were clean. Carpet should've been replaced a good 5 years or so ago. Room had DirectTV & a decent WiFi connection. The road out front is CRAZY busy - I was there for 4 nights and heard & saw the aftermath of 3 car wrecks outside of the gas station across the street. Problems: - my bathroom had a leak from the bathtub above. Mentioned it to the desk and they didn't seem to care. - shower head - had a massage head on it. It must be getting old, as a part inside would get stuck and start this LOUD, annoying vibration. Onlyway to stop it was to shut off the water, then turn it back on. - one of the exterior security doors on the side would't open. I had to walk to the front with all of my luggage to get inside. All & all, it wasn't bad for the price. Next time however, I'm staying closer to the event I was in town for over in Long Beach.
My partner and I stayed here for two nights, in connection with our visit to Catalina Island. Front desk staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Plenty of parking. Satellite TV (DirecTV) was excellent. Many premium channels, good size flat screen TV. Free donuts in the morning were fresh and among the best I've tasted. I think they came from the Yum Yum Donuts down the street. Free local newspaper. Hotel is close to ferry (10 minute drive, 1/2 hour walk if you want) and the cool downtown area on 6th Street (boutique restaurants, shopping). Sushi 21 Japanese restaurant next door is excellent, good service and a great value. My only caveat is the street noise. Gaffey Street is a main route. Traffic noise does not disturb me, but those not used to it may find it distracting. But it's hard to escape traffic noise anywhere in LA. I would stay here again.
Just stayed overnight enroute to a cruise ship. The hotel is a budget hotel, clean, VERY comfortable king sized beds. Nice small pool area for a morning swim and reading the paper with coffee. Highly recommended if you are looking for a budget hotel in San Pedro cruise terminal area.
Check in Ok, was given the key of the room.. We when to do for what came to do at San Pedro. So We didn't check room around 7Pm. We came to our room to rest and as soon as we open the door Boom a musk smeel like the room was never been open to have air clean the romm for long time. then we turn on the unit that look like A/C unit. nothing happen air was as hot as the room.. the bed were my wife and I used was the worse bed ever I was not able to sleep all night .. Were ever I try I end with back pain .. I try to used the restroom the fan did not removed any of smell in the resroom.. as soon I some used it the smell was in the room... I had some sodas when for Ice the Ice machine was broken..We end living to Arizona at 6:00 am my kid were not able to sleep either do the the room was smellly and was not A/c to kool it ... Bad choice, money for them.... Sorry I mention that to the desk they were not felling for Us .. I ask for copy of my envoice they refuce to get y one was told I will ge...
So mom and I arrive from a 6 hour late train and find that the hotel we were meant to stay in is sold out and cant accomodate us, so we went 1 block down and stayed at the Vagabond. There is a slight smell of urine in the 2nd floor elevator area but other than that I found it to be a pretty decent simple clean hotel. Mind you not posh, just a simple hotel with firm beds. I have no significan issues with the venue and actually found the staff very accomodating.

My stay was AWESOME!! The room was clean and the grounds were clean. It was close to everything I needed. There was lots of parking and the neighbor was good too. The staff was friendly. The check in process was fast. The two things that I didn't like was there wasn't a refrigerator in the room and I heard the traffic from my room. If my room was located on the side facing the resident homes, I wouldn't have heard traffic. But other than that, my stay was great!! I would stay at this hotel again.
I was in San Pedro because I was going on a cruise the next day, and needed somewhere to spend the night. I stayed at the best hotel I have stayed in for a long time. The bathroom was clean, the guest service was excellent (even though I arrived at 2am), and the room was clean and taken care of; not new, but taken care of. I will go back without any questins if I am in the area again.
I was very disappointed in the room I stayed in. The hotel only has four rooms set aside for pet owners and I got the last one. I thought was very lucky to get the room until I smelled the horrible scent of cigarette smoke and other foul odors. The smell was so bad; I could only stay in the room one night. In addition, there was no electrical power in the sleeping area so the lamp and clock did not work. The TV worked only because they ran a large extension cord from the bathroom to the TV.

It was dirty and there were homeless people outside in the parking lot. They seemed nice but not a good look for a hotel. The floors were not clean and it smelled.
The hotel is within walking distance of the Catalina Express ferry. The hotel's cleanliness is comparable to other places I've stayed in the same price range. We had a refrigerator and microwave in our room--very helpful! This is not a luxury hotel, but it's perfectly adequate. Many of the reviews I read online about this hotel are very negative, and I don't know why. This hotel, considering its excellent location, is exactly what I expected for the price--except that the fridge and microwave were excellent bonuses.

The staff was friendly and as accommodating as possible and there weren't bed bugs. Although the immediate neighbors seemed quainte, the city felt a little shady. That obviously can't be helped, but I would have liked to have known that coming in. The parking was extremely tight and precarious. The outside of the rooms looked cozy, like a little nook of college dorms, but once inside all the warm, cozy feelings went away. Our room smelled like mildewy, moldy fruit. The fridge gave out an awful smell when it was opened. There was a used q-tip under the bed skirt. I never took my shoes off because the carpet looked so questionable. I was so grossed out I wouldn't let my baby crawl anywhere except on the bed. The towels in the bathroom were not completely clean and some were damp. There is no AC and the windows were open and unable to be closed. Because of that, my husband had a hard time going to sleep because of the neighbors and noise keeping him awake as well as being concerned for our safety. I have never given a review online before this, but felt this deserved one since most of the others are so positive. I feel bad saying unfavorable things because I don't want to harm a non-chain, privately owned business, especially when the manager on duty was so nice. However, this place was definitely not worth the money and I would never stay there again.
We enjoyed the location near Cabrillo Beach and Point Fermin Park. We could also walk to the Korean Bell Tower. In the next block are two diners serving breakfast and lunch to many locals. The Pacific Diner and The Lighthouse Cafe, which serves home cooking for dinners as well. The motel is on the main bus route. We missed having a coffee maker in our room but quickly adjusted by picking up early coffee at the diner. There was a microwave and a refrigerator in our room and if we had requested a coffeemaker, the hospitable staff would probably have supplied one.
The space, and confort. With only a couple of blocks walk to the beach, the location is great. Corner store for last minute needs. Restaurant is a few steps away. take that morning walk to feel the ocean breeze. One of the best economical places i have stayed in. Will be back soon. Liked everything, only thing that kinda bother us was the actual people on the room next to our. So cant hold the hotel responsible for this. Guy found girl cheating or something, hell broke lose at about 3am. Could hear all the fighting and screams, wanted to go and punch someone so i could get back to sleep.

Are room was right next to the service elevators which kept us up all night long. Only thing the staff would do was discount the valet parking charges. Won't stay there again!
Excellent facilities. Very efficient service. Only one restaurant/ bar open in the evenings. No restaurants/ bar nearby. Consequently, service was slow.

The staff was rude and even lied about the rooms I booked. I had booked a room with double beds only and they gave us a king. I told them I had comfermation that it was double beds and they said it I could not find them and print it out, it was just too bad for me. Luckily, I did find it....it said double beds only....so they finally gave us the room. The staff person to.d me I booked a king...I I to.d him he was wrong and he hung up. It was a bad experience. I had to speak to the manager and the home office and print out the paper that promised me a double bed room before anything was done. Never had such a bad e perience.
It was clean. And staff was very kind . I paid in advance online for 2 Queen beds, and checking in at 5:30 we were told they only had a king! Then we go to park our cars and the spaces are like for Barbie's car !wayyyy to narrow spaces & posts that many cars have played tag with! The location is just ok...tO far from Pine Ave & 2nd Street where all the restaurants & shops are ! And they charge $15 per car per day to park in that horrible parking structure! They had NO shuttle for around town locally. The walls are thin, we had neighbors on both sides of us keeping us awake all night, laughing & partying!

The staff had no idea how to handle booking.com customers and treaded us like second class customers. The breakfast buffet is weird, it's one buffet for continental and american breakfast. As booking.com customer, you are not allowed to touch the american breakfast items.

I had a roof over my head "Harbor view" was probably 20% of viewable area from room window. Other 80% was a corporate building about 40 feet away from the Courtyard hotel. Construction noise on the floor above mine sounded like a drumset above my room. Parking is $19. Only one room key worked. No room pictures on the website (as of 10/18/2015), so it's a roll of the dice on what you're getting since they are "renovating" rooms. Expensive, even for the basic room. Entire hotel smelled like they had experienced flooding/water damage. Very strong musty aroma.
The on site restaurant was very good. The wooden floors were not desirable because we could hear footsteps above us. One sliding glass door really didn't let in enough daylight.
When I went to check into my hotel they told me that they are full and don't have my room. I have already paid for the hotel yet they told me they don't have a room with two beds anymore and they only have one king bed room left. This left me speechless because how is it possible to sleep on a king bed with three guests. When I asked the front desk person to let me speak to the manager she tells me, i have to wait 30 minutes and she said that instead i could just take the king bed and be fine with it. Also, another thing she suggested was to get a refund if i don't wanna take the king size bedroom. It was HORRIBLE experience because they over book the revenue of the hotel and people like us gets left with no room.
The hotel was nice, clean and the location was close to downtown long beach, staff was really friendly and helpful. Our stay was great, beds were really comfortable and our room came with a fridge and microwave. Would comeback to stay for next years Long Beach marathon. Only thing wrong was the walls are a bit thin you could hear door close from other rooms down the building. But other than that's no other problems.
The maintenance guy, when we were finally able to get the front desk to have him check out our room, was a fast worker and great to talk to. The bathroom was really nice, aside from the faucet not being screwed on (maintenance guy fixed it), shower gel container they provided was broken, and toilet looked about 20 years old. They gave us a bottle of wine since we were there for our honeymoon. It's really a motel, not a hotel. Room was not artsy, eclectic, or colorful like they advertise- it was brown, beige, and black with only 2 splashes of color in the whole room. Housekeeping sucked- didn't vacuum when there were obvious areas of food crumbs, left the garbage can on the toilet, didn't replace ice bag, didn't notify maintenance of problems with room (he specifically said they're supposed to do that). Internet was practically nonexistent and we were only allowed two devices. No HDMI hookups on the tvs. Front desk wasn't very helpful and didn't notify maintenance the first time we came to them with problems. Curtain was ripped so 6 inches of light poured in the room. People smoked outside our room so the smoke smell got in our room die to the 1 inch gaps around the door. They overpriced every service ($2 to wash laundry, $1.75 to dry laundry, $3 minimum to use their computer and $0.50 for each additional minute, $1-1.50 to print per page, etc.). No hot tub, just the pool, though the pool was nice.

Rooms looked modern It was over priced. Def not a 3 star. Bugs in room. Bad area! No tv signal even worse was the Internet signal!!! I would and will not recommend Hotel Current! Place.
It was clean and comfortable . I liked that it had things you might forget like a razor , sewing kit, toothbrush , ect. Not enough seating area at breakfast.

The hotel is clean and the rooms look modern and up to date. The location in downtown Long Beach is pretty central if you want to be in Long Beach. Two double beds instead of two queens, lots of sound traveling between rooms, not a very good shower, room was on the smaller side, check-in issues were an annoyance and were due to staff's actions. Price quite high for what we got.

Great Location for the Convention Center, lots of restaurant's in the area, and the comp. breakfast was good The comp. breakfast should be extended to 10:30AM , Refrigerator in rooms would be good improvement. The coffee pot and ice bucket should not be kept in the bathroom, its unsanitary

Convenient drive from there to the funeral I was attending the next morning. Easy check out Parking fee and got the very last parking spot at night
Location if hotel And cleanliness. the pool looked deceptivly large on the website. It was basically a giant hot tub. The staff was not accommodating. I wanted an earlier check in @ 2:15, I had three small children and apparently no rooms were clean. The breakfast was shady at best and not much room. I had to take the food into my room. This is the last Best Weatern I stay in.

Location was great. 15 minute walk to the Pike and waterfront location. Close to restaurants, and shopping. The room was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and plenty of parking. The pool was a little small.
Andrea and the rest of the staff were just great. Everyone tried very hard -- Very tight quarters...couldn't brush your teeth w/o hitting your head on the shelf. Tv too high (but very nice way up there), neck ache like hospital bed. No elevator for disabled people like me-you should definitely point this out on your website. Making a fuss after the fact makes the disabled person feel embarrassed. No bathtub.
The staff. Parking lot for $10 next door. Really hated the smell of the hotel just walking through the door!! It was like child Poop!! Really...all over the place, for the 2 days we've spent there...I Don't know if there was any problem or what!It was really discouraging to go to the hotel...Rooms and beds are much smaller than they appear to be on the website!The bed is too soft, u wake up in the middle of the night with back pain...Very noisy door slamming with every entry, could even hear the snoring next door! The bathroom is so badly ! Too big area for the size of the room. Yet the shower is so claustrophobic! But what I really hated about the hotel was the smell...I Am really sorry but I would recommend this hotel.
The rooms are really clean, cosy. Hotel staff's really welcoming and helpful. The price is maybe be expensive.

the staff at the Varden is absolutely incredible. The owner is almost always present, and the staff clearly follows his approach to making guests feel welcome - friendly, full service, helpful. They generally work hard to exceed every expectations. Whether offering a bottle of water, asking how things are going, or helping with printing boarding passes and finding a good restaurant, they make you feel welcome, and ensure that your trip goes smoothly - great service, great renovation of an old hotel, unique property, and close to everything you need (wonderful and diverse cuisine, convention center, big box stores, if needed, etc.) There is nothing to not like!!!
The best service ever from wonderful staff who really make me feel like a guest instead of a paying customer. That combined with a perfect location for Long Beach make the Varden a great choice. The rooms were a bit small and the window looked onto a brick wall.
I have never had better service from any hotel even as a Platinum or Diamond Member of the big chains. The staff made my stay at the Varden nothing less than a pleasure.

The very friendly welcome. The location near animated street. The easy parking. Wi-fi service. The breakfast (very limited choice in a tiny room). The washbasin in the bathroom, much too small.
Clean. Excellent staff. Would be good location if taking cruise the next day. Very small room and bed. Noisy door slaming with every entry went on all night long. Downtown location had traffic, sirens, light rail noises all night. Lacks double pane windows to keep out noise.
Central to downtown long beach and the convention center. This staff here were all so nice and helpful. Orlando and Tracy (I think that's her name, smaller woman with a cute accent) were especially helpful while checking in. Rooms are cozy and AC was cold! They have a cute little lounge area where they offer wine certain hours of the day! I drank an entire bottle my first night. Great experience, my boyfriend and I will most definitely be staying here next time we come for a convention. Shower heads are a little intense. maybe too high?
The staff were super friendly and helpful. Although the design is modern, it is not practicle: 1. The small size of the sink and the shelf above it makes it very messy and difficult to brush teeth or shave. 2. Using the clothes hangers impedes the view of the TV! Finaly, the carpet was not clean. Within an hour of changing to new socks, the bottoms were black.
Rooms are generous measured, kitchen with some utensils available. Hotel is close to Queen Mary, free shuttle bus to the beach. The jacuzzi was in my opinion a liite bit to dirty, the furnishing partially battered. Breakfast was nothing extraordinary.
The staff were very friendly. The rooms were very nice including Kitchen. I liked that they had a free happy hour/buffet on some nights and a food truck on others. It was great.
