We especially enjoyed the bar and restaurant. Great bartenders and everyone was very friendly. We love to stay at this hotel on our way up north.
A good hotel with a few drawbacks
Great location, historic building, and authentic interior features of a bygone era. The staff are courteous and helpful.
Bedding and furniture are tired and there is no sitting area to speak of, and no chairs in the smaller rooms. The continental breakfast is spartan. You can order breakfast but this wasn't really clear and there were no wait staff around.
The location was a perfect halfway break in our road trip. The staff was friendly, and the food in the restaurant and pub was solid and reasonably priced. This is a great place to enjoy the Shenandoah Valley on a budget.
Entering the hotel is like stepping back in time. All the furnishings, the décor, and the ambiance call back to a more genteel time. Even down to the worn chenille bedspread and hand made quilt. We are used to traveling using "modern" motel chains. This was a pleasant break. And since it was our wedding night after 34 years of being together and finally being able to legally celebrate our love, it was especially appreciated. The staff was wonderful.
No elevator. Couldn't stay more than one night due to difficulty traversing stairs.
