Booked a Thrifty reservation for 6:00 pm pick up at the PAC airport in Panama City, Panama. HOWEVER all of the airport car rentals in that location close at 5:00 pm. NO where on any of my reservation information did it say that they would be closed. HOW can Kayak/ Thrifty even make and guarantee a reservation time when the location is closed. I also spoke to a representative twice to confirm the car size two days before my arrival. I had to take an Uber to the Thrifty location In Panama City and there- the customer service representatives were extremely helpful. I eventually did get a car (it was vacation week so the options were limited) Also the customer service agents at the office said that they were not surprised, that this happens often.Reviewed 1 Jan 2024

No carCons:When I arrived at the specified time of pickup, they didn't have a car for me to rent. This was a big problem, in part because the only available car in the airport was from Express Rent a Car and it had a nail in one tire, and a thumb tack in another. The car wouldn't start & then they charged me to refuel it!!!!!!!!!!!Cons:So several times the keyless start didn't recognize the key was there, until finally the car wouldn't even open. We had to open it using the manual key, but there's NO WAY TO start the car without the car simply 'recognizing' that the key is near the car. We FINALLY and MIRACULOUSLY got the car started and drove it directly to the hotel so we would be safe to have them come get it. They brought ANOTHER key and that didn't work either, so we switched vehicles and they asked me to fuel it up before I brought it back. What the heck? And then they charged me full price to fill it up when I returned the second car. I NEVER make poor reviews but these guys are THE WORST. How the heck am I going to fill up a car I can't start!????????!!! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. I'm so angry I'm beyond more words.Reviewed 16 Oct 2018

Cons:Car I had reserved months prior was not available. To go from an suv to a yaris for 4 people with luggage was not good. Staff was not helpful at both ends of the trip. Don't rent from Thrifty at the Allbrook airport.Reviewed 2 Jan 2018

Watch out for the cost of the insurance!Cons:Prepare to pay three times more for the cost of insurance. The rent was $87 and the insurance $ 240. And it is mandatory to take, they won´t allow the use of any other insurance, even though you have one. Do not expect the same service you receive in the USA. I booked an SUV and they gave me one of lower level (Creta instead of a Tucson) arguing that they were of the same level. It clearly is not. In Thrifty Panama, there is no policy to give you a better car if they do not have the one you rented, you get a worse car one for the same price, even if you disagree. They do not offer the transfer service to the hotel or airport. You should take a taxi in an area that is not safe. I do not recommend it.Reviewed 18 Jul 2017

Pros:The vehicle was good. Personnel were good.Cons:Their explanation of the insurance caused confusion and anxiety. Insurance for 3 days almost what a monthly payment cost. Once understanding their policies all went well. Also there is no designated return area for returning the vehicle nor were we given any explanation on where or how.Reviewed 7 Jan 2017

Walked awayPros:When we first got to the office we were told they could not honor the Internet rate we got through kayak. So instead of $106 it was $177. Surprised but ok with it for the monthly rate. But then it turns out they cannot or will not accept any other insurance plan but their own, mandatory. Not US insurance which is understandable but also not Amex. Ok then, what s the rental rate with insurance? $1270. Yup. Not a typo. The office could not give us any breakdown and gave us all sorts of numbers which we could not make any sense of. We could not get info on what was the car rate, what different insurance plans there were. It turns out it is the law to have Panama insurance, which is obviously ok, but the rates the rental companies charge are crazy. At the very least there should be such information available when you book online. We decided to not rent the car in those circumstances and they were not very nice about it but we were not charged.Cons:Not honoring internet rate. Not explaining the various rates and insurance fees.Reviewed 7 Nov 2016
