West Yellowstone Airport car hire is located in a single terminal building with all facilities in one place. You’ll find the car hire desks in the public Arrivals area just after Baggage Reclaim. Staff there will be able to advise on vehicle choice and driving information for Yellowstone Park and the surrounding region. The car collection point is in the car park immediately adjacent to the terminal building. There is no need for shuttle buses or other transport. It’s a short walk.
The roads in Yellowstone and the surrounding area are good quality. An SUV might make a better choice for this trip than a standard car. The roads can be very windy, particularly around the mountainous areas and the upper speed limit is 45 mph. Animals such as bison, bears, and birds of prey can often be seen on the roads so drivers need to be alert for this. Your hire car company at the airport can advise you on what to expect on your journey in the park and the region.
This is a very small regional airport but it does provide the airport amenities you would expect. These include staff assistance, ATMs, restaurants, waiting areas, and toilets. There is also an information desk for tips and advice around travelling within the national park, including route suggestions.
Car hire at West Yellowstone Airport will require a valid driving licence for your country of residence as well as a credit or debit card. You’ll be required to show your passport for secondary identification. You will need to be at least 21 to hire a car here and anyone under 25 will have to pay a daily surcharge. Drivers over the age of 70 may also be subject to a daily surcharge and this is determined by each company individually.
Car hire companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from West Yellowstone airport to off-airport locations include Avis, and Budget.
Pros:Dawn was extremely nice and gave us fantastic tips about visiting Yellowstone!
8.4 Very Good
Pros:Fairly quick pick up at flight arrival.
Cons:Like everything else in West Yellowstone, very expensive.
Pros:Super convenient at small airport
Pros:The staff at West Yellowstone was amazing. He was super friendly and gave us some food recommendations that were delicious!
Pros:The staff at pick up was good and the cars were ready and in good shape.
Cons:The signage at West Yellowstone pickup could have been better. It was not clear that I needed to go inside the airport. Drop off at Bozeman was terrible. Clearly they have outgrown the small airport setup yet it persists.
Pros:Car was good.
Cons:Drop-off point kept changing. Avis staff did not know where it was. Directed us to the wrong location. Wasted a lot of time to find the right one ourselves.
Cons:Car rental drop Bozeman airport a very long way from terminal and no shuttle service all else very smooth

Cons:Car needed to be serviced.kept notifying for oil change
8.8 Very Good
Pros:Cheaper to rent off airport.
Cons:When at the off airport location had to wait for the vehicle which came from the airport. Had to put air in the tires.
Pros:I got a call before I even left home airport that there was not a car available for me due to overbooking. So I didn’t like anything about the experience. It was expensive to Uber. And not available at the times i needed. Manager offered to pay for some Uber trips. Really wrecked this trip. No other cars were available for less than $599/day.
Cons:They could have had a car for me since I made a reservation and counted on it. They should have gotten a car from competitor and paid for the difference in price.
Pros:Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful
Pros:The staff was very friendly and helped me get the most value for my rental.
8.4 Very Good
Pros:The staff was friendly and helpful, the pick up and drop off went pretty quickly, but I still haven't received a final confirmation on my bill after the drop off. The car was clean when I arrive to it, which was appreciated.
Cons:Although they provided a "free upgrade" but I really was not a fan of the Ford Ecosport, even as an upgrade. It is not a good car for highway driving or even city driving as to preserve gas it turns off/goes into neutral every time you take your foot off the gas. Very annoying. Also, the trunk space is better in a regular car. Finally, be aware of which pick up place that kayak/priceline brings you to. I thought I had booked the airport and incurred an additional fee.
Pros:Cheap Prices Easy Return Process Fast & Friendly Service
Cons:Flew into Bozeman, paid for the upgrade for Jeep Cherokee or equivalent knowing we were going into Yellowstone national park. They gave us a Dodge Journey which is a minivan without the sliding door. Since the park got nearly 1' of snow we almost got stuck several time in pull offs or in parking lots because it had almost no ground clearance. That vehicle is not the equivalent of a jeep. Not good...
Pros:The customer service was excellent at Bozeman, MT. Friendly and accessible. No extra charges for BS. They called me before my trip and arranged a shuttle, and patiently waited as the baggage claim was delayed by 45 minutes.
Pros:One rental good the other not so much. Same rate for both rentals, but absolutely not equal vehicles. Ace needs to reevaluate.
Cons:We rented two vehicles. Both were charged the same rate. One a Chevy Suburban the other a Ford Expedition. No comparison. The Ford was not equal and should never have been the same rate. The Suburban had video, auto tailgate lift and other features.
Pros:Car had 50000 miles on it and showed the wear. We rented two vehicles and received this one the Ford Expedition. And a suburban. There was no comparison in features of the expedition and the suburban the ford was far inferior
Cons:Not pleased with the one of the two vehicles. The ford was no where equal in features and size. Very disappointed that the cost was the same for both. Definitely not a good deal.
