Tossa de Mar is a historical fisherman's village and popular holiday resort on the Costa Brava, Spain's famous northeastern coast. The village is located in the north east of the province of Catalunya, within 100km of both the French border and the city of Barcelona. Tossa de Mar has several beautiful beaches, coves and inlets which each have their own unique character.
The Costa Brava region has an excellent Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Any time between May and October would be ideal for a Tossa de Mar holiday, when temperatures rarely drop below 20 degrees Celcius. Visitors can fly in to either Girona airport or Barcelona International, and there are affordable bus and train transfer options available from each airport that can take travellers to the resort.
The main beach of Tossa de Mar is called ""Platja Gran"" and is overlooked by the magnificent 12th century wall of Vila Vella, meaning the 'old town'. This is a perfect area to go fishing, scuba-diving or snorkelling, and is equipped with showers, lifeguards and kiosks. The picturesque coves of ""Cale d'en Carlos"" and ""Cala Figuera"" are sheltered by steep, rugged cliffs and shallow, calmer waters - great for families with children.
On your Tossa de Mar holidays there is plenty to see and do, from cultural activites to exploring the town's history. Take a stroll through the narrow, cobblestoned streets of the walled-in Old Town to find Roman and Gothic churches, outdoor sculptures and the magnificent castle of Santa Maria de Ripoll. For eating out, there is a wide selection of restaurants offering fresh seafood, tapas and traditional Catalan cuisine. Not to be missed is the weekly market held every Thursday at Rambla Pau Casals, selling everything from fruits and vegetables to clothes, shoes and homeware.
