For the more adventurous a bus can be taken to various attractions on the island such as the Malia archeological site and museum which displays artefacts from the Minoan place that once stood there. A few kilometres east of Sissi, Milatos Cave contains a small church built in 1935 to commemorate a 19th century massacre. A little further afield Crete is home to a number of historic monasteries which are notable for their frescos and icons.If you want more excitement you can easily get a bus to the local town of Heraklion to shop in its boutiques or to Malia for a night out.
