Located on Lanzarote's south coast, Puerto Calero is an attractive, purpose built resort which resonates with style and elegance. With multi million pound yachts of every kind moored in the resort's state-of-the-art marina and waterfront cafes serving elegant European coffees all throughout the day and night, the ambience in Puerto Calero is one of quiet sophistication. Unlike it's contemporaries on the Cote d'Azur however, Puerto Calero is not an exclusive place - everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the atmosphere.
As well as being on a latitude which ensures it receives plenty of sunshine all throughout the year, Lanzarote's proximity to the African continent (it is closer to Morocco than any of its neighbours) makes it is the hottest of all the Canary Islands. Suffice to say, there is no bad time to visit Puerto Calero! Flights to Arrrecife Airport abound all year round from the UK with flight times generally taking around four and a half hours. Despite being closer to the Sahara Desert than it is to London, Lanzarote is just one hour ahead of the UK (GMT+1).
Unsurprisingly, most people's holidays in Puerto Calero revolve around the showpiece marina. As well as offering visitors the chance to admire the yachts and sip espressos in the shade, it also acts as a casting off point for boat trips to other resorts along the coast, such as Playa Blanca and Papagayo. Puerto Calero is not blessed with beaches of its own so a trip to somewhere like Papagayo is well worth looking into. Visitors without reliable sea legs can always take a bus ride to enjoy the fine beaches at Puerto del Carmen or push on further up the coast to explore the island's cosmopolitan capital, Arrecife.
