I clicked many times to pick up from the airport. Evidently, the website kept changing it to the city (and I didn’t notice on the last time). When we tried to pick up at the airport, we had to taxi into town (40€). That time caused us to miss our appointment window which gave the Italians all they needed to stick it to us. It went from about 300€ expected cost to 1,000€, not counting taxi rides to and from the center instead of the airport. I paid for insurance online, but because I didn’t have internet I couldn’t prove that by showing my receipt details, so I paid for it a second time. Your website said when we purchase insurance we get a second driver for free. The Italians charged us for the second driver, in addition to the other add ons bringing it to a gut wrenching and costly experience. I won’t use Kayak.com again for a car rental, It was a costly mistake (nearly 800€ extra). We paid as if we had no reservation at all because we got there more than 15 minutes after our reservation window. I heard another agent (there were three in the office) on the phone (speaking in English) and doing the same thing to another customer. It appears that this is their tactic. It was a painful lesson for us and one that we would do everything to not repeat. Is bad enough that we consider to either rent a car in Poland or drive one of my family’s cars from Poland and drive for two days rather than trying to rent a car in Italy. In getting to know some locals on this trip, we found that this type of treatment of foreigners or outsiders is common.Reviewed 26 Aug 2026

Friendly, helpful staff everywhere. The car itself (a Ford Kuga) was "low quality" with a squeaky transmission and fairly high on gaz consumption -- not quite what a "like VW Golf" promised, but at the price I paid, no complaints!Reviewed 25 Aug 2026
