7.9 Good
Pros: The hosts were very welcoming. The room was comfortable and the location was perfect for where we wanted and needed to visit. The breakfast was beautiful and plenty of it.
Cons: We hadn't realised that we would be staying in someone's home. We turned down offers of accommodation from our family members as we like our independence. We stayed in our room to relax rather than wander through the hosts house to get to the conservatory where we were told we could sit. The conservatory also felt like their home and we were visitors rather than paying guests. We also felt it a little odd to be sitting in the conservatory to eat breakfast with the dog roaming freely and a cage in the corner where the puppies were. Again, this was not a real issue for us as we have animals ourselves, but as paying guests it would have been good to have been notified of this in advance so that we could have decided whether or not to choose to stay there. Not everyone likes animals around when they are eating.

The Thistle Inn - Castle Douglas - Bedroom
7
9.3 Excellent (64 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Castle Douglas, The Thistle Inn is within a 10-minute drive of Lock Ken and Threave Garden. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel, small and friendly. Some works still in progress re finishing off some redecoration but all fine. Food excellent, both dinner and breakfast. Room as expected with twin bunks and a single bed Room about 20m from the main building so nice and quiet. Car parked 10m from room door. Menu was top side prices but bar prices in the average bracket. Shower of a high standard and spacious. Room adequately heated. Bed very comfortable. Fridge in room an advantage. Only charged per person per bed and not for all three beds in room.
Cons: The 'blackout' blind in the room did not work in terms of 'blacking out', a curtain would be better than a roller blind. The fridge, however you try, makes a noise
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds. Jim was an excellent host and despite being in the middle of a refurbishment it didn't impact on our stay.
Cons: The weather but that was out of Jim's hands
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Rooms were very clean and breakfast was good with a relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely stay again and highly recommended.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in the triple room, and the value for money was excellent. It's basic, as you'd expect, but it was spotlessly clean, warm and comfy, good bed and cosy bedding, TV with satellite, fridge, TV & coffee making facilities, biscuits and excellent, newly-installed wifi. The breakfast was nothing special but it absolutely did the job, a full Scottish breakfast with tea, toast, cereal, fruti juice, the usual - at this price you normally don't get breakfast at all. For that price, what more could you want?
Cons: The only quibble I could have is that there was a hum from some fan or machinery next door, but it didn't really disturb me.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent clean, warm comfortable room. Good parking for my motorbike. Good beer and food. Spot on. Will return.
Cons: Happy with everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Jim was a great host and the food was exceptional
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Accommodation was not fancy but it was ideal for activity based stay and very clean. Room well provided with fridge/freezer etc, good shower. Meals were good and helpful proprietor. Breakfast was great and certainly no shortage - if anything, too much. In process of renovating but functioning went on smoothly. Nice little bar. If you are looking for soft furnishings you might be disappointed a bit - but this is a practical place,
Cons: Front façade might be more appealing but no doubt will be part of the renovating in time. Just does not convey the standard presented inside.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were given a very warm welcome even though we didn’t arrive until 10.40 at night. Very comfortable beds. Excellent well cooked breakfast.
Cons: All good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything suited fine. My only complaint is that having booked a twin room the booking had gone through as a double. My daughter and I assured them it would be ok but I think they and I could do with an apology
