Aim to please!Friendliness of staff - seems like they have had some training in US customer serviceMy rental car had issues so had to find an alternative car. But not such a big deal really. Staff all wanted to shake hands - must be a new training thing - unnecessary in my opinion.

Didn't have the specific car requested but got anRequested a Nissan Pathfinder for third row of seats. Its not a car enterprise UK carries in their fleet anymore so they offered us a SEAT Alhambra people carrier (mini van) for same price. We had it for 18 days and it was a great car for the money. Wish they had them in the U.S.!No complaints at all.

A 35 minute wait when you arrive just to speak with someone is not OK.Representative understood our frustration and upgraded us.Ridiculous ticket system meant waiting 35mins just to speak to someone. Arriving late at night with small children this system was painful. If you know how many people booked surely you can make the pick up a lot smoother. The other carhire companies did not seem to be having the same problems. Also - directions on the print out were not how you actually get to the 'new' car hire centre.

The car was decent and in line with what was promised upon booking. Picking up the car was pretty painless except for finding the actual desk itself.Upon arriving in the international airport, there is no clear signage that the rental car desk is in the domestic terminal and we had to lug all our luggage around trying to find it. Pick-up of rental car is a short walk from the terminal, however if you are trying to navigate this with a lot of luggage in the torrential rain, it is not a lot of fun as they are doing roadworks between the terminal and the rental car pick-up. The walkway is uncovered and not level for easy navigation with trolleys / luggage.

Too much paperwork required to rent from Thrifty.Nothing.I reserved my car with Thrifty at Glasgow Airport. However,, when I tried to decline the company's insurance and use the coverage on my credit card, they insisted on written proof of coverage. Who carries around something like that?! I offered the phone number to the credit card company but they declined to call. Never again.

Car hire excess insurance in Paisley

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) & Theft Protection Waiver

Collision damage waiver and theft protection are insurance options that cover renters from paying high penalty fees if the car is stolen or returned damaged. Some Paisley car providers already include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection Waiver into the rental price but not all of them. We recommend always be aware of your coverage when renting a car in in Paisley.

Deductible

Keep in mind that car hire excess insurances often have a deductible clause, which is the amount you’ll have to pay if something happens during the time of your rental. If you want to avoid unwanted surprises, you should consider adding a no-deductible option to your Paisley car rental.

Top tips for renting a car in Paisley

  • Car hire in Paisley will pay off when you enjoy the freedom it will give you to explore the city and the Scottish countryside in which it’s set. Top of the list is Glennifer Braes Country Park, which overlooks the city and requires a short drive. Barshaw Park is another place worth visiting. In the centre of town, it pays to choose a hire car in Paisley as your means of transport, especially if you’d like to take in all the historical sites here, like Coats Observatory and Fountain Gardens. If you love architecture, Paisley Abbey and Thomas Coats Memorial Baptist Church are fine specimens.
  • Paisley is pretty well situated to reach by air travel, as it’s only just over 2.5 miles away from Glasgow International Airport. This is a large airport with all the modern facilities that will make it very easy for you to complete your Paisley car hire there after you’ve pre-booked. You won’t have any problem locating the hire companies, as they’re all right outside the terminal building in two dedicated locations: next to domestic arrivals and also right outside Terminal 2. Whether you prefer Budget, Avis, Hertz or another brand, they’re all highly visible in the airport’s car rental centre.
  • Paisley is a highly pedestrianised city, with specific pedestrian zones that you’ll need to be aware of when using car hire in Paisley. This specifically applies to Paisley High Street, which used to be closed entirely to vehicle traffic, but which has since been opened in the evenings and overnight only. As a result, there is a very strong pedestrian presence in this central area of town at night, and cars are expected to respect this, so exercise caution and drive a bit slower than the speed limit.
  • When rush hours come around in Paisley, which are at the typical times between 08:00 and 09:00 and again between 16:00 and 17:00, the most affected areas and streets are the centre of town, just before you get to the pedestrianised area through which the High Street runs. Try to avoid the roads around St James’s junction as well, particularly where it intersects with the M8. Christie Street is another road that can get congested.

  • You’ll face a bit of a pleasant dilemma when you’re looking at what type of car to hire when you’re visiting Paisley. It’s tempting to get something that can take on the surrounding Scottish countryside like a 4x4 or to enjoy the secondary roads in a luxury saloon. On the other hand, a more compact city car will likely make a more convenient choice if you’re more inclined to enjoy everything that’s on offer in the city itself, particularly in the busier areas mentioned above.

  • Don’t be lulled into being lax about speed limits by the relaxed setting of the city. Keep a sharp eye out for speed camera alerts, particularly on Paisley Road itself, on Renfrew Road, and the Glenburn Road section of town where it intersects Caplethill Road and Glennifer Road. The speed limit in the centre of the city and its residential areas is 30mph. As you move outside these zones, the speed limit increases to 60mph on the motorways.

  • The average cost that you can expect to pay for petrol in Paisley is around £1.18 per litre. Some convenient petrol stations are the BP petrol stations on Greenock Road and Whitecart Road. If you’re looking to save a little, head for Morrison’s petrol station on Neilston Road or the one that you’ll find in Seedhill, where prices can sometimes be lower than the average. Jet and Asda also have outlets in Gleniffer Road and Linwood Road respectively.

  • Parking is really reasonably priced in Paisley, at around £0.60 for 2h and £2.40 for all-day parking. Look specifically for the Bridge Street Car Park, the ones at the north-west and south-west ends of Cross Street and on Glen Lane.
